  • Scale's hyperconverged environment presents a single pool of resources that support our VMs. It intelligently handles decisions related to storage provisioning and load balancing across nodes.
  • Snapshots and replicas are created in a few clicks within a simple to use web interface. Gone are layers of settings found in some other products we've used.
  • The 'at-a-glance' dashboard tells me everything I need to know about the current status and utilization of the Scale cluster.
  • The ability to cut, copy, and paste into a console in a browser tab would be wonderful.
  • I appreciate the ability to click on the storage gauge on the dashboard and drill down into detail. Shouldn't that be available on every gauge?
  • The ability to schedule exports, restarts, etc from the management interface would be useful.

  • As an appliance, it comes ready built and with all licenses included. No VMWare, no vCentre, no fiddly build steps
  • On site resilience is built in to the cluster - and it works; as does cross site replication for BCP/DR
  • Remote support and the pre tested upgrade facility are good and work - our outsourcers hate it as it doesn't need much outside a service desk call to have some Scale
  • Cross site VM migration is a feature on the roadmap we are looking forward to
  • When dealing with hundreds of VMs all needing the same change e.g. replication settings, being able to select those as a group or set would have been a good timesaver
  • Accessibility to external monitoring could be simpler - it takes a support call to turn it on. Whilst it is understandable that end users are kept away from the configs that make it work, some elements such as simple SNMP names and trap settings could be menu driven.

  • Setup is easy and quick, from unboxing to live integration in your environment.
  • Very easy to manage, one console to view with all information at your fingertips.
  • Support is responsive and great!
  • So far, we can't say there are cons, this solution is on par with what we needed and what we expected.

  • The HC3 web console is user friendly and easy to use.
  • Implementation of the hardware and setup is fast and simple.
  • Scale support is easy to reach and keep in touch until all issues are resolved.
  • With HC3 v8.8 agent less backup works with ease
  • The web UI although it is very easy to use, I think could see benefit to perhaps almost an 'advanced' view, where you could get more detailed or granular options.
  • I think the procedure of importing of VM's from other architectures could be more fine tuned.

  • Simple Interface
  • Little Upkeep
  • Additional features (i.e., see the IP on the tile of the VM; allow hot swapping of VLAN on NIC)
  • Better partnership for non-approved solution providers--Mitel, in particular, has been a difficult transition for us.

  • Relaibility
  • Rapid systems deployment
  • Excellent fault tolerance, backup, and recovery
  • Easy overall management
  • Support, They have provided prompt top tier support on thier products
  • Snapshot management has room for improvements, more recovery options, export options, etc.
  • Image import/export could encompass more virtual image types.

  • Simplicity, everything in one interface.
  • Backup and restore.
  • The main interface is somewhat basic, missing details about each VM and the system as a whole that other solutions provide. Disk throughput and the ability to see a detailed breakdown of each VM on a host, to name a couple.
  • The ability to clone install media(ISO files) between clusters would be nice.

  • Scale is easy to use.
  • Scale has a single web-based interface that allows you to manage all the operations of your VM.
  • Tech support at Scale is responsive and very knowledgeable.
  • Some of the advanced features of the KVM Hyper-visor are not available.
  • Memory overcommit would be nice.
  • The console for the VMs is very basic. I.E. no copy/paste

  • The initial install was simple and straight forward, we purchased setup support but didn't need to use it.
  • Virtual machine setup is fast and easy.
  • The ability to store ISOs for new virtual machine installs is a great time-saving device.
  • The need for backups of virtual machines is satisfied with the built-in redundancy.
  • The firmware update process requires a complete restart if the system. The ability to schedule upgrades would be great.
  • The UI is a bit cumbersome, using icons instead of labels is not SOP but it works.

  • Scale Support is responsive and knowledgeable.
  • Scale will grow as your company needs grow.
  • Scale is easy to use with minimal training.
  • I would like the ability to schedule exporting of VMs for backup purposes.

  • The HCMove migration utilities are top-notch. Really makes migrating to the Scale platform from both physical and virtual systems very easy.
  • The portal is extremely user-friendly and makes setting up new machines and maintaining existing machines a cinch.
  • Tech support has always been quick and efficient.
  • I would like to see Scale get recognition and integration with other utilities at the same level as VMware and Hyper-V. We utilize a Unitrends device for backups, and while it has native support for backing up on VMware and Hyper-V platforms, I lose out on the virtual-aware benefits and have to just backup my Scale virtual servers as if they were physical.

  • Scale Computing simplifies the management of the critical components in your IT infrastructure. The interface allows you to understand what's going on with a quick glance, giving you the important and relevant information right in front of you.
  • Scale Computing also gives you the flexibility to add the right kind of performance your company needs as it grows. Whether you need more storage, RAM, or compute, the cluster can accommodate your expansion needs.
  • Scale Computing allows your DR facility to be managed in the same way as your production facility. No complicated setups or configurations, just simple point and click.
  • Upgrades can be expensive at times.
  • Reporting for individual VM's and their usage could be improved in a few small areas.

  • Migration to Scale Computing HC3 is simple and straightforward.
  • Management of VMs has never been easier.
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery with Scale Computing HC3 is built in to the system.
  • Support, which is rarely needed, is knowledgeable and quick to respond. Average time to reach a live support technician is 17 seconds.
  • I'd like to see more accurate detailed documentation for alternative migration options for situations where using the Double-Take software isn't supported.
  • I'd like to see more realistic time estimates for setup and migration. Although the process is fairly straightforward, the initial setup and migration took considerably longer that the marketing suggested. Maybe they're using best-case scenario numbers. All things considered, not a huge deal, but I like to plan for worst-case so that I can set expectations.

  • Backup and recovery--set it and forget it.
  • Remote hardware monitoring
  • Big storage at a reasonable price
  • Committed 1st-class support
  • File-based recovery takes too many steps.
  • Importing existing VMs from other hosts is too difficult and problematic, even with Carbonite software.
  • Sometimes imported VMs suffer from poor performance and cannot be modified to take advantage of optimal drivers, etc.
  • Coordinate with vendors who sell/distribute virtual appliances to have Scale pre-built virtual appliances, as they do for VMware and HyperV hosts making it easier to adopt Scale and advertise that Scale is an option for virtualization.
  • SSD cache fills up too quickly and a combination of SSD and HDD storage may not plan for enough cache, making performance suffer.
  • Some implementation and support specialists are too green and not ready to give the service expected by Scale and the customer.
  • ISOs that have been uploaded should be downloadable again, if needed, and replicated to other HC3s.

  • The Scale Computing HC3 system is so easy to maintain. We came from another virtual system and the difference in administration is huge. The time we save in maintaining this system allows us to spend more time on other network tasks.
  • We are using the snapshot feature as part of our DR plan. Here again, it is very easy to configure the snapshot plan and the way that Scale manages the snapshots does not require large amounts of additional storage.
  • When we installed the HC3 system, it took longer to mount the equipment in the rack and cable it then to have the system online. Management is very simple using their web-based interface.
  • One of the things we have to do is manage a group of virtual drives that are attached to our Windows servers. With growth, we find that we need to increase the size of some of these drives. The method used by the HC3 system is cumbersome. I will say that I believe that this has changed in the latest firmware upgrade we did, but I haven't had a need to try it since we did the upgrade recently.

  • Very simple easy to use UI.
  • No driver issues.
  • Support has been top notch.
  • The HC3 solution did not play nicely with our aging core switch, so we had to upgrade that as well.
  • There was not support for transferring old application servers 2008 and under.
  • I would like to see thermal readings in the UI.
