What is ScienceLogic SL1?
The ScienceLogic SL1 platform aims to enable companies to digitally transform themselves by removing the difficulty of managing complex, distributed IT services. SL1 uses patented discovery techniques to find everything in a network, so users get visibility across all technologies and vendors running anywhere in data centers or clouds. The vendor states the advantage of SL1 is that it collects and analyzes millions of data points across an IT universe (made up of infrastructure, network, applications, and business services), to help users make sense of it all, share data, and automate IT processes.
With SL1, the user can:

Useful all round monitoring tool
I have not used other products recently. The last I used was HP Insight Manager back in the 1990's.

SL1 was selected by our solution architects and I was not involved during the selection process. But during implementation and configuration, I realized that the tool is easy to use because of its discovery feature. Also, it is flexible in use and we are able to create our own DA and RBAs

ScienceLogic SL1: how it helped the business grow
Compared to the above tools, I find ScienceLogic SL1 is more efficient (not cost-wise) in monitoring standards, and I feel very comfortable handling the day-to-day activities. Based on features, it can be compared with LogicMonitor but monitoring checkpoints alignment is a bit complicated with LogicMonitor. ScienceLogic SL1 is very easy and comfortable.

Monitor your Infra with ease, as SL is there always
- Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
SCOM which we were using has no effective monitoring on netwirk devices. Also major drawback was, it was not auto ticketing, we were ticketing it manually

ScienceLogic SL1 gives better visibility.
ScienceLogic SL1 is a great addition. I haven’t used the other ones, but it seems like SL1 does offer more in terms of network monitoring.

We liked the roadmap and growth that ScienceLogic SL1 had aligned. Functions and features from our previous product were pretty well aligned, but the cost was a huge impact on decision.

SL1 Simply
ScienceLogic SL1 has provided a much-needed holistic view of our infrastructure.
I used SolarWinds NPM for 5 years and can say that it is much easier to get around and find the information you need from a user perspective. ScienceLogic SL1 has recently done a large overhaul of their user interface but as of this writing, it's not ready for primetime so we're using the "classic" interface. There are a lot of things you can do in the old interface but it is far less intuitive than NPM, which refreshed its UI many years ago.

Decent but needs work
- IBM SevOne Network Performance Management and SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm)
IBM SevOne Network Performance Management was too expensive but the better choice. SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor was a good value but didn't have good API integration.
ScienceLogic SL1 offered the best combination of deployment flexibility, extensibility, and widespread support.

SL1 event management
we didn't select SL1 as a competitor, we have more than 40 clients and most of them are government entities where we have centralized solutions used in our main company, and different solutions used for other clients.
SL1 is used for other clients integrated with our main MOM solution.
SL1 since it is not an agent-based monitoring it can't be compared with microfocus Operation bridge, as OBM provides more detailed performance matrices than SL1.
if compared with microfocus NNMi then it provides the same feature of monitoring but doesn't provide any map views and tracing like NNMi.
SL1 is used for other clients integrated with our main MOM solution.

ScienceLogic insights
- SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm)
We were using Solarwinds suite of products before migrating to ScienceLogic. Though it comes with various modules like NCM, NTA, UDT, IPAM etc, but with the current scope of Performance Monitoring and fault isolation, I think it has an edge in the analytics and graphical display of data it provides. The only demit I can say is it's scalability and large Infrastructure support.

Short review from system monitoring perspective.
It is a unique competitor against other tools since it has a long history and it is able to evolve for the future. The concept is tested and worked on from time to time. It has its own positive sides and some space to make it better. It can be adopted for most environments, worth investment analysis.

ScienceLogic the Next Choice?
- SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm), SolarWinds Network Topology Mapper and SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset
As I stated earlier, SL1 seems to be best used for Servers and Network Storage devices. It doesn't seem to be a direct replacement as SL1 doesn't have a configuration management piece, visual maps are very crude and not user-friendly, and the building of the maps is not intuitive, nor has the functionality of Solarwinds Topology Mapper.

My review about SL1.
Agentless monitoring is the best part of ScienceLogic SL1 monitoring, which is asked for by all the customers. UI is good and easy to handle. Port status from ScienceLogic SL1 collectors is easy even with bulk servers. The overall product is good for basic INFRA monitoring. Managing customer requirements is also achievable.

ScienceLogic SL1 review
Although NetBrain is not a monitoring tool, we use it a lot and there are some overlaps in terms of being able to quickly gather information about network devices and topologies.
I have checked the feasibility of these tools, and except for CA UIM, other tools are not even close to ScienceLogic SL1. ScienceLogic SL1, in this respect, is far more advanced. ScienceLogic SL1 is smooth, easy to use, easy to make anyone understand, and make ready to work. The support team is very helpful but depends on use cases, and then ETA is delayed.
When it comes to transferring massive volumes of data between different Cloud platforms, ScienceLogic SL1 is the way to go. To sum up, ScienceLogic SL1's automation is highly efficient, and the report-making process is rapid and painless for the user. The metrics are spot-on, and their effects on corporate growth are both beneficial and understandable.
