What is ScienceLogic SL1?

The ScienceLogic SL1 platform aims to enable companies to digitally transform themselves by removing the difficulty of managing complex, distributed IT services. SL1 uses patented discovery techniques to find everything in a network, so users get visibility across all technologies and vendors running anywhere in data centers or clouds. The vendor states the advantage of SL1 is that it collects and analyzes millions of data points across an IT universe (made up of infrastructure, network, applications, and business services), to help users make sense of it all, share data, and automate IT processes.

With SL1, the user can:

  • See everything across cloud and distributed architectures. Discover all IT components—–across physical, virtual, and cloud. Collect, merge, and store a variety of data in a clean, normalized data lake.
  • Contextualize data through relationship mapping and machine learning (ML) for actionable insights. Use this context to understand the impact of infrastructure and applications on business service health and risk, accelerate root cause analysis, and execute recommended actions.
  • Act on data that is shared across technologies and IT ecosystem in real time. Apply multi-directional integrations to automate workflows at cloud scale.

Some of the customers where ScienceLogic was deployed have achieved a drilled down level of visibility towards which business process is getting impacted, due to a specific infra component getting affected.

ScienceLogic has made it easier for me to monitor multiple customers equipment in one area. Before I would have to log into each customers equipment to monitor which was time consuming. The ability to pull reports in one area, and customize reports based on equipment and customer has also made my daily job much easier. I now have more time to work on other projects or issues.

We did not have a solution in place prior to ScienceLogic, and despite over 6 months of dedicated engagement between our DevOps teams and ScienceLogic's teams, we never got it to fully work as advertised, so this question may not apply well to us.

Certainly, Sciencelogic provides a 10,000 foot overview of all the application services, segmented at business unit levels. It requires some efforts and time as the learning curve is not straightforward.

Expanding the use of ScienceLogic monitoring across our infrastructure technologies -- starting with the network and then also including servers (physical and virtual) and storage components -- has allowed us to increase our knowledge of dependencies between components. It has also helped us be able to faster identify which services and clients are affected by infrastructure component issues should they occur.

It integrated with all tools and helped us get the large spectrum of visibility that we were hoping for. We were also able to go live quickly. We have a long way to go to implement it in other areas and see the full benefits but at this point, we are off to a good start.

We have a much more granular and easily accessible view of what is in our client's infrastructure and where it resides. Event Management is much more accurate and is feeding good data into ServiceNow.

We are able to drill down to whatever level we need, from regular hardware down to applications and interfaces. This is further helped by the use of dynamic applications we write to support customer monitoring.

The organization has end to end visibility towards business services > application > infra components/devices > app components. Overall, positive feedback was received from senior management. Looking forward to deploying at many more places or with our existing/new customers.

ScienceLogic was at the company before me, so I was not there to see the change, but I can tell you that our internal systems are monitored very closely and adding visibility into those has increased our effectiveness as a whole, limiting downtime and incident responses.

Our level of visibility across our infrastructure has increased dramatically. SL provides excellent metrics and data that helps keep on top of network events, and application and business services monitoring are being built to support the changing needs of our organization. With the move to a hybrid environment of private & public cloud application installs, SL has become key for us.

In the last two years, we have successfully converted a large customer from their own NMS into SL. In doing so, we discovered multiple devices that were not even being monitored. This not only added value for our customer but increased our revenue as well. Another customer recently signed on to use us as their primary NMS. This customer asked for some custom deployments that wouldn't be available in other systems.

We have a deeper level of visibility into our internal and customer environments, where previous tools lacked dynamic component mapping and relationship views - we now have component level visibility from this platform. We expect to see the same granular level of visibility across our application landscape as we plug in third party tools for APM and the capabilities of ScienceLogic is enhanced on this front.

ScienceLogic has made it much easier to discover and monitor devices across our entire infrastructure. This has also been a huge benefit to our clients, as it provides a window into what they do as well. We keep a window open at each employees' station so that they can watch our devices and our infrastructure in near real-time for any issues that may arise.
