I've used it mostly for keywords research to find new relevant keywords and to see which keywords our competitors running so I can make sure we are not missing anything. Also, it great tool to see competitors landing pages and creative for each keyword.
  • Competitive research
  • Creative Analysis
  • Budget planing
Cons
  • Keyword volume estimation
  • Social media Information
  • Backlink reports is not good enough competing to similar tools
It's suited to get intelligence on relevant competitors, it's less good to define search volume. You can use it to find out where your competitors spending their budget on Google but keep in mind that the search volume and other sink parameters are not 100% accurate.

We use SEMrush for keyword ranking. This is done primarily when we build out websites for our clients and implemented at the very beginning of the process. It is used by the copywriting/SEO team at the start of the process, the design team during the website build itself, and then used to monitor the success of the website moving forward.
  • Keyword position tracking. Monitors your national, regional, and local search engine positions for any keyword you put into it.
  • Compare domains with key visibility indicators. SEMrush uses visualizations to illustrate your online competitors’ web presence. Data on key visibility numbers are presented in line, bar, or pie graphs.
  • Has a powerful backlink checker to check accuracy and strength of backlinks.
Cons
  • No white label reports at all.
  • Advanced interface is not as intuitive as other tools and might require more knowledge from a dedicated SEO professional.
It is recommended to use it for competition analysis as well as tracking your client's success online. It also has good capabilities outside of keyword tracking. Social listening, backlink auditing, and SEO audits make it easy to increase clients' web presence and put them a step ahead of their competitors. It is less appropriate if you are just starting out in the SEO arena.

SEMRush is used by our organization in a research capacity. We utilize the tool in order to conduct competitive research in various industries for our clients as they look to launch digital advertising initiatives. We also use it for ourselves internally, in order to optimize our own digital advertising initiatives.
  • SEMRush has some of the most accurate competitive search information available, compared to other similar tools.
  • SEMRush has some of the most detailed competitive search information available, compared to other similar tools.
  • SEMRush's platform is easy to navigate, but not over-simplified.
Cons
  • SEMRush data (or data available in any comparable platform) is never 100% accurate, and should always be taken with a grain of salt.
  • SEMRush can be a bit expensive, compared to other similar tools (but it also provides more data, so it's a trade-off).
  • SEMRush should implement competitive data outside of just search - like social advertising competitive data.
SEMRush is fantastic for initial research when launching new initiatives for our clients. It allows us to more accurately estimate costs, performance, and available opportunities in various industries. It also allows us to monitor competition and changes in the paid search landscape, and stay adaptive as our campaigns are running.

We are in a very tricky keyword space. Most of our strategy is derived from competitive insight and accurate search date. SEMRush provides direct visibility into this.
  • Ease of Use
  • Graphs/dashboard interface
  • Rich feature set
Cons
  • Not sure sometimes how accurate the keyword data is
  • They restructured pricing and cut out some of the features
If your keyword market is pretty straightforward and/or you have low volume on your site, you could probably find out this data without spending the money. I think anybody who spends more than 600 bucks a month on AdWords benefits from this.

The best SEO tool on the market!

We use SEMrush to monitor the ranking of our location sites and to monitor keyword changes within our own site as well as review Google updates. SEMrush is also helpful in analyzing the performance of competitor websites and allows us to have an insight into any changes we need to make. SEMrush has really made the SEO monitoring process easy and, in my experience, has been the most accurate source out there.
  • SEMrush can be easily customized to show different forms of stats. We use it to view a general overview of our website and also monitor the ranking of specific keywords. It will tell us how competitive that keyword is as well as where our page ranks on it.
  • The site analysis tool is also really useful and updated often. The site analysis tool will scan a website and report any errors it encounters and how to better optimize the website SEO-wise. This is useful in catching issues that could pose a big problem and result in a penalty from Google.
  • Another great tool is the backlink analysis feature. It will show every website that links back to yours and also provide a score to the website that will tell you whether or not that backlink is toxic. From there, it's really easy to disavow those links and prevent any future ranking issues. It can also be used to see what sites are linking back to your competitors.
Cons
  • SEMrush is really feature rich, however, it can be confusing at times as to what certain tools do and how to use them. It would be great if SEMrush provided some sort of short tutorial when they launch a new tool.
  • While SEMrush is great at continuously adding new keywords, it can be hard to find good data on the lesser trafficked keywords. I'm not sure whether it is possible, but it would be great to get more accurate stats for smaller keywords or location-specific keywords. The stats for those are sparse right now.
SEMrush is great for any SEO team or manager. I can't imagine running any sort of SEO campaign without it. It does just about everything and provides a lot of in-depth stats that are crucial for running a good campaign. I would highly recommend SEMrush to anyone or company that is running a website. The tools it provides are invaluable.
