What is Shopify?

Shopify is a commerce platform that allows anyone to easily sell online, at a retail location, and everywhere in between. Shopify offers a professional online storefront, a payment solution to accept credit cards, and the Shopify POS application to power retail sales. Shopify is used by over 90,000 retailers in 100 different countries.

As a SaaS, Shopify's stability and always-on availability are touted. The eCommerce site presents the customary inventory and presentation controls typical of eCommerce solutions. Items are organized into collections, or using smart collections customize groupings to fit the merchandise (e.g. less than $20 items, gift ideas, bundles, etc.). Content management features (e.g. a blog) are present for tailoring the look and interactivity of the site.

For selling online, the $14 Starter pack includes a basic eCommerce site with 1GB of storage, chat & email support, and support for 25 listings. The $29 Basic pack includes POS and unlimited products, as well as fraud analysis tools. The $79 Professional Pack bumps storage space from 1GB to 5GB and adds gift cards, professional reports, and abandoned cart recovery. Finally, Unlimited, at $179 per month, makes space unlimited, and provides advanced reporting and real-time carrier shipping.

Shopify and BigCommerce are similar to each other in the sense that they have a very similar back end to the website. The ability to upload products is very similar and able to control settings. However, Shopify does seem to be easier to understand and has some added features that BigCommerce does not have. Also, the support staff for Shopify is 10/10 where BigCommerce cannot beat.

For e-commerce, Shopify provides a greater range of capabilities and integrations, including inventory management, shipping, and payment choices, and marketing tools. It offers more apps and customization possibilities accessible to businesses. Shopify helps you better organize and manage your products. It makes it easy to keep track of what you have in stock, create different versions of the same product, and even add special options.

We did not evaluate other products because of Shopifys name recognition and overall great reviews. I had heard of Wix as another option for website creation and building, but Shopify is a lot more complex for our business needs and fulfills our need for a platform where we can easily sell our products offerings on.

My #1 issue with small business and ecommerce is that there's this belief that you can plug a few pictures into any old website, and the orders will start pouring in. This is simply not true, and if you try and build your online business that way you'll save yourself some time if you just start flushing money down the toilet and focus your energy elsewhere. Best practices are your very first tool in convincing Google that your page and products should be included in its search results. Volusion is simply terrible at this where with Shopify it's almost automatic. With Shopify you can almost follow your best practices by accident, but with Volusion I'm finding that I'm using a lot of duplicate content just to get the H1 tags correct, the URL structure is outdated (and again, it could be significantly easier to fix), and its more than happy to leave the meta tags blank where Shopify will pull from the description if you leave it blank.

The old platform that I used could not help us to meet our requirements. It was not helping us properly, then I got to know about Shopify and started using it. After 1 month [of] usage of Shopify we could understand that this is the best platform [for E-commerce] to make better sales and goodwill. Shopify helped us to get a proper idea of the analytics of the website. Shopify [supports] most of the [applications] and helps us to make better results.

Shopify is easy to use. You do not need to install many plugins for it, and if you are using WooCommerce, you will have to install some plugins. With Shopify, you get a high speed hosting and CDN (content delivery network) which will make your website fast. The checkout is also optimized for easy payment for customers.

Shopify is easy to navigate and export shipping data to other shipping management tools. We have multiple clients (70+) using Shopify and rarely have issues. With others, we seem to have trouble daily with export to our shipping management tools. In addition to export issues, we often don't have as secured fraud detection with other commerce tools.

Shopify is the full-fledged complete package. It is equipped with all the superb features. Shopify is one of the most used cloud-based e-commerce store creation platforms available in the market for medium and small businesses. Shopify is the best store creation tool with having all the features in it to be the best platform.

  • Adobe Business Catalyst (Discontinued)
Adobe Business Catalyst was used before Shopify but we ended moving away from the platform and we constantly ran into issues. The support wasn't like Shopify, nor was the platform as reliable. Shopify handles alot more, alot better but we found the constant need to add add-ons adding to the overal cost.

Shopify is the best platform where I am handling our different stores. It is a secure and easy-to-use online e-commerce solution. I have been using a lot of software in my organization to gather information about different businesses and sometimes I need to import some data from other web pages, it integrates with other content apps very easily and easily transfer data from one to another. It easily integrated with payment gateway methods to help us doing zero hustle in setting up different software to integrate for the receiving of payments. Its Support is always available for the solution of any queries regarding their platform. They are available 24 hours seven days a week. Listen to the problem very patiently and provide a possible solutions.

They have more analytics, better designs, more apps to create a more robust system to run a business on. Their system is very intuitive, and they are heavily investing in constantly making their platform better. The biggest selling point years ago was the ability to track with google analytics. Wix didn't have that simple feature years ago...

Shopify is an excellent platform for companies to grow; they have the best tools that help to develop, optimizing sales results, and increasing innovation in the company, allowing us to differentiate ourselves from the competition and position ourselves.

With Wix and Squarespace, we really like the extended customization options for our store, but they both lacked the "commerce theme." Shopify, like BigCommerce is essentially designed to cater right to ecommerce and thus has more tools and features to support that effort. BigCommerce was too confusing for our small team to get set up and their support was lacking as we sometimes waited a few days to get chatbot support.

Shopify is way easier to set up. No coding needed. All the tools to create your eCommerce are there and are easy to use. You can literally set up a working site in minutes. Most of the initial work is more focused on us making sure we had proper images and product descriptions, but once you nail that, the site can come up in no time.

Shopify's app or plugins Marketplace is just way more developed and controlled than the others. The app certification program is strict so the quality of those products is usually high.
