What is Shopify?
As a SaaS, Shopify's stability and always-on availability are touted. The eCommerce site presents the customary inventory and presentation controls typical of eCommerce solutions. Items are organized into collections, or using smart collections customize groupings to fit the merchandise (e.g. less than $20 items, gift ideas, bundles, etc.). Content management features (e.g. a blog) are present for tailoring the look and interactivity of the site.
For selling online, the $14 Starter pack includes a basic eCommerce site with 1GB of storage, chat & email support, and support for 25 listings. The $29 Basic pack includes POS and unlimited products, as well as fraud analysis tools. The $79 Professional Pack bumps storage space from 1GB to 5GB and adds gift cards, professional reports, and abandoned cart recovery. Finally, Unlimited, at $179 per month, makes space unlimited, and provides advanced reporting and real-time carrier shipping.

Nothing compares to Shopify!
- Shopify makes selling super easy.
- You do not have to constantly manage and update the site.
- Basic customization is super easy and can be down with the user interface.
- If you want to code additionally, you need to know the Shopify language and how it works.
- Can be pretty expensive since we only sell for about a month out of the year but want to keep the website up and running.
- I wish more customization was provided within the user interface.

Shopify Review
- They are popular, so they advertise themselves well.
- They just came out with "handshake" - a wholesale division of their company.
- Their pricing is in line with others for the most part.
- [I feel it is] SUPER user unfriendly. I have built MANY websites over the last 20 years not just for myself but for others and Shopify was one of the most difficult.
- I hate their sign in process just to log in to my store.
- UX - easy to use
- Great out of the box design
- Stock - syncs well with apps
- Not easily customizable functionality
- Not great for blogging
- Experience has a lot to do with the theme you choose - if you choose a bad one, you're making life tougher for yourself
- Easy to use and very powerful to support continued growth
- App Store Marketplace makes integrations a breeze
- Accept payments without merchant account and payment gateway hassles
- Email marketing is an added cost compared to the previous system we were on, but this isn't a big issue
If you have a custom built e-commerce solution that is working well for you and is able to continue growing without headaches, then moving to Shopify might not be worth the effort. However, if you are starting a new online store today, Shopify is an easy choice that you cannot go wrong with.
Great ecommerce platform for an online business
- Easy-to-build templates
- Great product and inventory management
- Variety of payment methods
- Various apps to cover all our needs
- Would like to see more flexibility with Shopify Payments
- Cancelation of a previously-paused account was a bit of a hassle (this happened for our other store)
Quick and easy shopping management
- Easy shopping cart delivery

- Ability to manage payment terms based on services would be highly welcomed
We love Shopify!
- create new stores
- monetize all products
- one stop shop for all things e-commerce
- free trial could be longer
- increased app options
- increased customization
- App marketplace to extend the capability of the core platform
- Easy to use but powerful admin console to allow more people to managed business
- Pure cloud based platform, no upgrade costs
- Inventory management reporting
- More basic theme customization
- More product page customization
- Ecommerce store
- Ability for custom e-commerce store to align with brand
- Shopping transactions and payment
- Newsletter and social media integration
- Shopify only has baseline functionality. If your store requires certain features, or if you are interested in providing a more engaging storefront with expanded features, you have to buy separate apps for each individual feature.
- Because apps can stack up for each individual feature you may need, there are times where certain apps don't work well with others or disallow other features.
- Although one of the platform's strengths is the ability to customize for your brand, unless you're a developer, there are no easy tools that are accessible to do it on your own. You really do need a developer to do it for you.
Shopify is the #1 choice for new brands!
- Ease of Use
- Set-up is really fast
- Has great tools and add-ons for growing brands
- Integrates with social media platforms
- Integrates with marketing efforts to see what's working
- Integrating with custom checkouts is difficult
- Site speed slows with certain plugins
Shopify handily addresses all these issues by providing a robust, user-friendly backend and stylish front-end for consumers.
- Ease of product creation and management.
- Zero ongoing IT maintenance issues.
- Streamlined and stylish consumer-facing website.
- Product categories and subcategories are time consuming and non-standard to implement.
- Building out the front end was more time consuming than expected.
- Available plugins of widely varied quality.
Shopify's powerful commerce tools can make your online store ready to compete with pretty much anything else on the web, and can scale to whatever traffic your store generates, which is a great comfort when your products go viral and suddenly sales explode.
A great E-commerce platform
- Shopify makes it easy to create new development stores.
- They also make it easy to request access to customers that already have a store.
- Shopify is a one-stop shop for all e-commerce needs including domain and hosting services.
- It would help if I could offer my clients more than a 14 day free trial.
- The web design can become confusing on their platform.
- It would be nice to have more app options.
Shopify - Better than Volusion, Comparable to Squarespace
- Easy back-end system
- Beautiful and customizable templates
- Collecting payments
- I'd like to see more free templates that are similar to Squarespace
- Better designs for websites that only have 1-3 products
- Make customization easier for non-tech savvy people
Best all-around option
- Easy to use
- Great UI
- Scalable
- Great SEO functionality
- It is more expensive to use than alternatives like WooCommerce.
- There are big expensive jumps between the Shopify plans.
Stop struggling and start selling
- Shopify is extremely user-friendly.
- Excellent website and mobile platforms

Dependable eCommerce platform with solid analytics
- Makes it real easy to create duplicate versions of product pages for testing various elements.
- Displays a wide array of reports and analytics
- Real easy to create and implement discount codes
- Some of the templates are not easy to reconfigure.
- Some Sales reports like "Sales by Discount" have a lag time of around two days before data populates.
- Big jump in pricing from "Shopify" to "Advanced Shopify."
E-commerce's finest platform for your business
- You can list unlimited products on your site
- No bandwidth or storage limit like other competitors
- Share your account with peers
- It has a great dashboard for order tracking and other features.
- Web design might be a little bit antique
- Customer service lacks detailed issue solving
- Point of sale needs to generate more reports that can be useful for a business
One-stop shop for all your eCommerce needs
- Simple and easy product setup and inventory management.
- Wide selection of design templates both free and paid.
- Sometimes the navigation between pages when editing the site can be a little confusing.
- Small amount of website basics are recommended for the site setup.
Best E-commerce platform
- Fantastic Support
- Multi channel integrations
- It is more expensive than alternatives like woocomerce.
- It has its own coding language to learn.
