We use the NX for Mold Designing. Start it with the product design via the mold design until the CAM programs. The most difficult the standard libraries keeping up to date.
  • new mold features, modules
  • associative, gateway
  • help documentation
  • measuring went wrong direction !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • sketch base.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • from model base went to sketch base the features
Overall, a complex system that is very easy to use. It covers the entire process of engineering work. However, its licensing is quite fragmented.

We needed a CAD platform that works with the Siemens tool chain, that supports basic 3D modelling functionality, offers import and export capability for other types of CAD software, such as CATIA v5, SOLIDWORKS and PTC Creo etc, at the same time, offers the linked other properties, like mass, material, possibly further simulation functionalities.
  • 3D modelling
  • Mass property analysis
  • Sizing and tolerencing
  • Sizing and tolerence
  • Better coordinate system creation tool with mass property
  • Ability to configure product/assembly structure upon import
NX CAD is very good when it comes to three dimensional modelling and rendering and visualization. Furthermore, the export to jt function together with import into other Siemens software packages, such as Teamcenter, is a major reason why I am using NX. However, it can be a little more computationally expensive compare to other CAD packages.

Our company is using Siemens NX CAD for designing processes, Template creation, or generating Drawings. Also it is used in our Automation line project for our new Engineering to Order Process. Also it is integrated into our Product lifecycle management process. Therefore we are using the Programming Interfaces NXOpen with Java.
  • Complex Assemblies
  • NXOpen API
  • Journal function
  • Less free tutorials in the Internet for NXOpen
  • Expression handling is hard
  • Multithread functionionalities
As a beginner in NX Programming it is difficult to lern it without access to the solutioncenter. There should be more examples and Tutorials supported for a open community. Also the Journal function should generate more code which is dynamically then doing the a one shot command. This also could help for non programmers getting in contact with NXOpen.

We use NX CAD for automated 3D and 2D modelling as well as creating templates in order to standardise the design process. We use complex Templates with thousands of Expressions in combination with PTS and Rulestream for quick and standardised construction processes. NX CAD is used in combination with Teamcenter (PDM/PLM Software)
  • customisation options fit our needs
  • Teamcenter integration
  • open api for c#
  • We would appreciate expressions for Tolerances
  • Multithreaded NXOpen
  • Improved Webservice support
NX CAD does help us with our automation efforts of the product design processes and also supports digitalisation efforts in manufacturing, for example by using the CAM module. The Template options also help a lot reaching these goals.
We miss an easy way to integrate NXOpen in Webservices and using it in a multithreaded way.

Working and Creating Templates for Standardization. We use Complex Templates white over 7000 Expressions in combination with white PTS and Or and rule-stream for quick and Standard construction processes. In addition, we use a lot of custom nxprene programs to create automatic drawings and the CAM part, and after that, the NC files and a lot of other data for automatic production in combination with white Teamcenter.
  • Very good and open API.
  • Good Teamcenter instigation.
  • Good Customization options.
  • Use expressions for tolerance.
  • A simple way to use Nx via NXopen in web services.
  • Multithreading in Nxopen.
It works well fine for Customization and automation. It works well for creating complex templates in Combination with white PTS and/or rules team. It helps a lot with the digitization and standardization process. There are some limits in the API. There is no easy way to create web services and using the nxopen API.

We use NX CAD to design our products. As we do a lot of simulation with external tools, our problems are to integrate CAD data and Simulation. Further, we would like to improve our work with NX CAD and Teamcenter as well as Teamcenter Simulation.
  • It is very clear structured
  • Search help - showing where to find commands
  • Boolean operations
  • 3D rendering
  • Built in Simulation
It allows good use of the API programming own applications for it. On the same side, it would be very helpful to sometime have better help or documentation of the API or someone on the support team who could help out with that.

We are using NX CAD to develop our software in the NX environment.
  • The usage of NX CAD is quite intuitive
  • There is just not only one way to accomplish an engineering task
  • The handling of large assemblies is pretty good compared to other CAD-systems
  • Assembly weight management
  • Some features are pretty hard to understand cause the help is not very useful, especially new features
  • Early adoption features should be more accessible for users
It is well suited in any kind of product development scenarios. Due to pretty high license prices, it is not that well suited in smaller companies.

We are using NX CAD in the design and calculation. At the moment, we roll out in all plants and we need to train all the users in the best way to use it. Different departments use NX CAD for creation of the product, support and maintain the product. The problems are only in the mindset of the user, not in the program.
  • Changes are not shown in the normal setup
  • Complex menu
  • Starting time sometimes long
  • Better measurement function
  • More integration in the Apple world
  • Faster apps for tablets
Creation of sketch are easy, and the workflow direct on the model is perfect. The designer can work direct on the 3d model and doesn't need to move much on the screen. This is a big benefit for the designer because they need less moving time and the construction is super fast.

NX CAD is used for the design of injection molds. The whole design of the parts, including cooling and standard parts, are made in NX CAD. As a quite new part structural simulations are also made with NX CAD.
  • Linking geometries to other parts
  • Working with volume models
  • Working with parameters
  • Keeping the colors of surfaces if volume bodies are linked
  • Show and keep symbolic threads
  • For me, I miss more information why a surface can't be deleted or a radius is not possible. And maybe a solution, how could it look like, if NX CAD adds a new surface.
As said before, the linking of bodies to different parts works really well. At our company, we work with assemblies and the position of the parts is something I must pay attention to.

NX is our main CAD software tool in the company. Our whole components, appliances, and fixtures/tools are designed with NX. We build up 150% of the assemblies of our appliance. Right now we are starting with MBD, where also our main problems are located, due to some missing functionalities or not fully supported functions, like mirrored parts with PMI.
  • Great range of possibilities.
  • Good improvements in performance in the last years.
  • Excellent support of legacy data.
  • Some functionalities are introduced early, like the new sketch solver.
  • PMI could support ISO standards better than today, like modifiers.
  • Generally IRs and PRs could be solved faster, at least more feedback could be provided.
Because it is the best CAD to work also with old data, you need to handle also the continuous release topic.

We use Siemens NX CAD to fully develop and Design components and assemblies into the final product to visualize the product as well as to create manufacturing drawings. Siemens NX CAD works well as a whole product system to work within all development teams, as well as having traceable on who has parts open, and the history of changes
  • 3d modelling
  • Motion analysis
  • Detailed drawings
  • Accountability of users history with parts
  • The speed at which it processes large parts
  • Ease of dimensioning complex geometry in drawings
  • Improving the user interface to make it more in line with most other software currently on the market and making it feel like its in 2022
  • Being able to show more than one measurement on the screen at the same time.
It's great for complex and large projects eg the automotive or aerospace industry as it. It has a good way of managing and controlling all the large volumes of models. But it's not suited for doing small projects quickly on the other hand. Like one-off bespoke designs.

Siemens NX CAD is mainly used by us o draw and archive 3d and 2d technical drawings of tooling and product assemblies. For example testing tools for plastic products, we engineer and produce. Tooling can also be composed of many sub-components. We also need to manage 3d assemblies to create exploded drawings and assembly instructions.
  • Modeling
  • The thing that I need to keep all the parts, usually in common with other assemblies, in the same folder is very uncomfortable if I need to revise a single component.
  • I would prefer to have 1 file for each part and just select it when needed. (with Solidedge this is possible).
Even after years of using it I still find it more user-friendly and easy to customize and use programs such as Solidedge or Solidworks. The things that I cannot order constraints in an assembly are uncomfortable. The thing is that if I delete a function while modeling a component the error message never goes away, even if I correct and refresh is uncomfortable.

Norfolk Southern's equipment design and equipment manufacturing facility is made up of a 6 person engineering team that is responsible for designing and developing new and preexisting machines for Norfolk Southern. For a smaller design team, we really are only involved with the design and product development side of Siemens PLM software through the use of NX CAD, NX Nastran, and NX Cam. Having just recently purchased NX Cam, we have greatly increased the amount of products being produced while significantly increasing our products overall quality.
  • Seamless interaction across multiple departments.
  • The software allows you to create a very high level of control and organization within your engineering staff. This reduces the companies mistakes and maximizes productivity.
  • The software makes it very easy to track your product through every phase of the production cycle.
  • Speaking from experience with NX, each revision seems to be focused more on the layout of icons as compared to the functionality of the features.
  • Features within NX that have been used for years are no longer being used as a result of new revisions. Doesn't make a lot of sense to the end user. It would be nice to know what the reason is on a much larger scale (ie large customer recommendation?)

How many departments will be using the product?

How does each department or area within any given company work with or rely on each other? You have to know or be able to create a streamlined approach to doing work for the PLM software to really work. The software adds a lot of necessary structure.
