Every software has its own pros and cons, however, Skype for Business is more like a balanced application with all the features required for a business need. MS teams [have] a messy user interface that sometimes confuses users including long-time users as the application is still under major developments. Zoho Meeting is lightweight but with compromise against [advanced] features. Google hangout meet and other free web conferencing applications may be good for small meetings but lacks functionality when [a] number of users increases. But Skype for Business has [the] most features (if not all) to complete your business needs for collaboration, hiring, and communication.

We use also Webex teams and Microsoft Teams. Both are also great products. Skype for Business is more simple than both. It is [something] that we all used since MSN messenger. Mobile application is also very good and still used to give and take calls. Other features are relatively [the] same.

Well, we currently keep using Skype for Business because we're still migrating to the Microsoft Cloud solution MS Teams. It is our backup solution for situations where we have to collaborate with external partners who not yet moved to Teams. But we're phasing out Skype for Business in favor of this newer product.

Actually, Skype for Business is the worst of those 4 other products [that] I´ve evaluated - that´s why it´s our 2nd o 3rd choice when we need to choose a product.

We're working to transition away from Skype for Business and onto one of the alternatives. Working with Skype for Business, many of the features feel "last-gen" and while it's not terrible and it gets the job done, the alternatives have more team collaboration utilities and integrations built in that make it an overall better fit for the problems that Skype for Business sets out to solve.

Given an option I would prefer Teams over Skype for Business (formerly Lync), but Skype for Business (formerly Lync) over Blackboard Collaborate. Teams has more options for collaboration. Skype for Business (formerly Lync) works well with quick communication and brief remote work if needed. Blackboard Collaborate worked well in a limited scope within Blackboard. The features in Skype for Business (formerly Lync) provide an overall better experience.

Skype for Business integrates well with Outlook [so] that we can see our teammate's status and we can instantly start a conversation with a right-click and it will help to include the last conversation we had in the same chat box, this will help us in typing length startings.

Microsoft Teams is the evolution and Microsoft is offering this new tool for their customers. It integrates more with other Microsoft products and provides a new concept of having everything ready for the worker in a single place, like visualization of projects, tasks, shared files in a single place. Skype is still a feasible solution to be applied, if the focus point is really on internal communications only. Skype for Business has a positive point against Microsoft Teams in regards to the alerts balloon when a new message comes. In Microsoft Teams, a balloon pops up for every message when you're not using it (you can change the settings to disable everything). While in Skype, just the first message pops up and then the icon starts blinking. The same doesn't happen in Teams and sometimes you might miss conversations if you disable all balloons.

  • Webex (formerly Webex Teams)
Skype gives user ability to control who can view or download the shared contents which I have not seen on Webex. Skype falls behind in customization of appearance as I can modify Webex, change theme, change pictures which is not present in Skype. Screen sharing is better in Skype than Webex. Skype gives ability to control other's screen while Webex doesn't.

Depending on what you wish to use it for, I believe there are better options out there than Skype for business. For an IM service, Slack is a lot more streamlined and user friendly. It is also a lot more customisable. Google Hangouts / Google Meet is a good alternative for video calls as it is free and clients do not need to set up an account to join a meeting.

  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager)
We did have an old Cisco UCM call manager implementation that could also do some sort of chat. But it was old and does not really compare. Choosing Skype for Business (formerly Lync) was almost a no brainer for us, as we have a lot of Microsoft products and got a good contract. The software had already proven itself.

We are currently utilizing both Skype for Business as well as Microsoft Teams. This is because Teams will eventually be the replacement for Skype for Business. Both offer us similar functionality, but Teams has a much steeper "learning curve" since it has so much added functionality (such as tie-in with Sharepoint/OneDrive).

It’s the most used tool in each company and I had to interact within my career on this software many times. Already part of the package of Office 365, it’s formally the most common step to learn the management role. It can be the great launch of your business growth and a future essential tool hard to be replaced.

Very useful for one on one conversation.
It as a great tool to be used for file sharing and screen sharing.
No hassle of scheduling meeting and logging in for small tasks.
No hassle to accept invitation or reject, very useful while screen is being presented.
It will definitely need major improvements with conversing with larger audience and with recording sessions.

Microsoft Teams is available and is used in our company however some of the functions promised by teams are not exactly what they promised or is not what we thought or we expecting once they rolled it out. Lyncs has all the kinks worked out and fulfills the purpose it was meant for.

Skype for Business was selected because it was a legacy tool in our organization. It will be replaced with Microsoft Teams in the next year or so. This is a welcomed change. Teams is much more current, engaging, and offers more capabilities and intonations with other O365 tools. I'm not sure how Teams stacks up for large conferences, but it has got to be better than Skype. I think GoToMeeting provides an awesome user experience for large conferences with multiple audience types and panelists. I think Slack provides a Teams like experience as well, but has less integration with other O365 apps.

Among all the ones I used, the ones with the best experience were: Google Meet, Zoom, Whereby, Messenger. These are great programs but in an informal context. I believe that for companies, Skype is differentiated precisely because it is a specific application for both security and settings, giving you a better experience on all platforms.

Skype for Business is a much better tool for anyone using Microsoft products. Using OneDrive, Outlook, and Skype, there is a lot of compatibility that you won't get from other software. It is efficient and easy to learn to use. Troubleshooting minor bugs on Skype for Business can also be done with ease.

The previous version of Skype (before the purchase of Microsoft) certainly had fewer features than those implemented after integration with Lync. It was fortunate that Microsoft purchased Skype to improve its Lync.
