It is appropriate for growing a business by reaching out to millions of people around the world and staying in touch with your customers with instant messaging and free calls from any device. It is suitable for teams who want to collaborate and engage in richer conversations via group chat and screen sharing.

I'd really only recommend Skype for Business in very particular circumstances, where we need to host a meeting and have more granular hosting controls than a regular Skype call, but are also expecting participants with low technological literacy or limited internet access. Those situations certainly arise, and it's an important piece of software to have in our toolbelt, but it's probably the one we use the least.

It is well suited to organizations that are looking for an easy to install tool that doesn't require too much work on the backend to get it up and running. It is also good for being a tool that [is] easy to use by users. No formal training is really needed to be able to use. It is less appropriate for organizations that need a big feature reach collaboration tool, that also has many capabilities for file sharing/storage.

If you use it for internal communication, or companies that still use it, it's still a very nice tool, better than a lot of others. It's quick and has the basic features that we need.
But, if you're trying to communicate with external world, there [are] other options like Teams or Slack, that'll do the job better than Skype for Business.

10 for sure! I think it is great. Instead of having to use my cell phone when working from home, I just plug the headset in and am able to make calls, message, and attend meetings. I also use the Skype app for meetings on the go. I couldn't be happier with the way the program works.

We appreciate Skype for Business (formerly Lync) as it gives us one of the best tools for collaborating and interacting efficiently as it allows us to be even quicker at work. By getting in touch with other teammates and being able to communicate with them in real-time, we can tackle or carry out any action that we need right away.

Skype for Business will prove to be great for the companies/institutes looking for a way to interact with other businesses and customers across metro cities. Also for group meetings and presentations, it is well suited. Other use cases would be for taking interviews or in [the] hiring process, support services, and [integration] with other Microsoft products like outlook.

However, for startups and small businesses whose needs are limited and those which are dealing with general customers, it will not be much to [use] as there are other applications (mainly free) available for them. Also utilizing skype for business for small teams will be a bit overpriced.

[Basically] any instant chatting needs is done through Skype for Business. When you are in [a] meeting and can't give or receive a call you can instantly message your colleagues about anything. It also holds your conversation history so you can go and check back. Also, you can leave a [message] and get the answer later. Like informal and faster mail.

On a good Local Area Network, the voice and video quality [are] most of the time quite well. And it facilitates talking, chatting, and video offering with coworkers in branches in other locations and countries. The mobile client allows you to have similar functionality on the go using your smartphone. The presence detection is also a neat feature.

[You] don't [really] see anyone who [does] not have Skype for Business pre-installed in their notebooks to go and download it - people would prefer to use other tools such as Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, or even Whatsapp for Desktop.

I would say Skype for Business would be good for a small business or startup that has a Microsoft Office license and they want instant messaging quickly set up. Although at this point with other products like Microsoft Teams aiming to replace Skype for Business, I'm not sure it's even worth recommending any longer.

I would rate it higher, but with Teams being the tool of choice from Microsoft, I have to rate it lower. It worked well in our environment, allowing us to connect the community. Students would use Skype for Business (formerly Lync) for business during the pandemic to speak with professors or staff with general questions.

Skype for Business has the basics and little bit more for a company that wants to integrate their teams by improving communication. Before we had a robust tool like this, we used to send questions, address quick doubts by either email or phone calls. All of this has been replaced with the easy text messages. Of course, some processes need and have to be formalized via email, but quick conversations really help the projects and is a good and fun way to increase the climate.

I only use Skype if I have to formally chat with person. If it is a casual conversation, I prefer other means of service. I wish Skype had some customization features where we could set our profiles based on our preferences. I would like then to have dark mode. I want Skype to have a faster startup time. It takes forever to load Skype.

Although the product is fine, I believe there are better and cheaper alternatives depending on what you intend on using the service for. Although it is quite an established product, it is quite traditional in many ways and offers little opportunity for customisation to suit individual business needs. I believe it can also be quite expensive.

If you are still hosting your own datacenter, Skype for Business (formerly Lync) is a good product and more or less future proof, as you can move to Microsoft Cloud relatively easy and without interruption. But if you are new to this, then you probably would go for a cloud-based version. Micosoft Teams is more or less the replacement and also a good product.

I use Skype for Business [(formerly Lync)] each day as part of my role in IT Support. It allows me to quickly communicate with our end users (employees) without having to pick up the phone and call them. This is particularly handy for someone who needs to multitask. For example, I can communicate with someone who is in a meeting or is already talking on the phone to someone else. The ability to search the Global Address Book through the Skype app is extremely useful. It allows you to type in someone's name and show their contact info (email, address, phone number, etc). Additionally, if you get a call from a number you don't recognize, you can enter that number into Skype and it will perform a lookup against the Global Address Book. If that number is in the GAL, then you can see who tried to call you because it will show that person's contact card (if that number is associated to them).

I am using using it during my work and I love the fact that you can change the status to let the others know when you are in a meeting.
also having the automatic status updated it’s saving a lot of time for me, especially knowing that I can be busy for an important and urgent task.

Skype is best for one on one conversation. This also includes file sharing, screen sharing as well as taking screen control of the other person. One can easily work out with different options for skype which is sometimes difficult with group of people conversing. We have particularly used it to troubleshoot multiple problems by taking screen control of other person.

In HR/Payroll, many times we need to discuss many variations in making some immediate decisions. Skype For Business gives us a freedom to speak about them openly and confidentially.
