What is Skype?
Skype (the personal edition) is a free web meeting, video
conferencing, and VoIP software. The free version includes instant messaging, audio
and video Skype-to-Skype calls, the ability to call mobile phones and
landlines, paid international calling, and conference calling capabilities for
up to 25 people. During video sessions, users also have the option to share
their screen with other participants. Other distinctive features include background blurring, voice and text translation, location share, conversation search, and integration with Microsoft's Digital Assistant, Cortana.
This version of Skype works on phones, desktop, tablet, browsers, Alexa, and
Xbox. Users can call landlines and mobile phones from around the world by
paying for Skype Credit or signing up for Skype subscriptions, a monthly
contract for users who only need service to specific regions. Users can also
pay to have a local phone number through Skype Numbers, so that they can answer
phone calls from their desktops, tablets, or smartphones. They can also send
SMS text messages and share their location using the Skype mobile app.

- Allowing you to call someone across several devices, including phones, tablets, and desktop computers
- Allows you to record your sessions to be used for record keeping or Podcast creation
- Allows you to have multiple people dial in to the same call easily and smoothly
- Skype's overall UI is a little confusing, especially the phone app
- It's unclear how to steer a Skype call, which is to say if I call someone and they have Skype on multiple devices, do they all ring or just the one related to the method I used to call (phone #, email, etc.)
- Skype tries to be not just a communication device but also somewhat a social media platform, which it doesn't need to be.
- Integration with Outlook for status (OOF, in a meeting etc)
- Clear call quality when making phone calls

- Sometimes does not work well in a large organization, I get locked out, and no easy way to get back in.
- Contacts organization feels a little unorganized

Skype lives up to the Hype!
- Skype allows on demand video and audio conferencing calls.
- Skype allow screen sharing for presentations.
- Sky allows filesharing for collaboration.
- Skype is a RESOURCE hog. People who have limited bandwidth will have poor call quality.
- It is hard to figure out how to use emojis and upload images in the chat.
- The background images do not fool anybody....it is clearly not your real background.

- It's broadly used.
- Over the last year (2020) until today the call quality got rapidly worse.
- Although both sides had great connections, skype constantly gave warnings, lowered the video quality, and chopped the audio until the video was deactivated.
- It basically became unusable due to that issues.
- Stop telling people it's their connection. Switch to ANY other tool like Zoom, BlueJeans, Jitsi, whatever, suddenly the connection is perfectly fine.
- It's not the client, IT'S SKYPE!

Skype is great!
- Seamless chat similar to Slack in that way makes it really easy to communicate quickly with clients
- Great video call software that makes screen share easy and effective. Really helpful when going over in-depth issues with clients.
- Calls international are great and save us paying unnecessary fees.
- I wish it was easier to share your profile with a QR code.
- Would be a cool feature to have Skype synch with your google or Microsoft calendar.
- Honestly works great, not a lot to complain about!

Skype - does it still live up to it's name?

- Can seem sluggish
- Seamless chat functions.
- Group chat features.
- Consistent quality - we run into issues from time to time when using this platform.
- Sometimes colleagues don't receive notifications about new messages.
- The instant chat function is great. Very straightforward, easy to use, easy to learn, no technical issues.
- Video calls are pretty easy also, user friendly and a mostly stable connection with no issues.
- Voice calls are easy also, eliminates the need for an external landline or the need to use your cell phone. Clear connections, not really any dropped calls.
- The overall functionality and robustness could use new features and updates. For example, breakout rooms, screen sharing, recording the calls, etc.
- If there are issues with connections or technical issues, there aren't many resources or links to help out or self troubleshoot. No technical support chat available either.
- Overall, [an] increase of functionality and customization is what is needed the most. Still a stable product.

- All attendees of the call must have an account.
- Screen sharing in the standard version doesn't have enough options (you might want to share only a specific window).

Great service for chatting and file sharing
- Good quality video stream for video calls
- Ability to transfer "massive" files via chat
- Skype works even with very slow internet speeds
- If there are a large number of participants in a conversation, there may be problems with the audio volume of individual participants.
- In the latest updates, a pop-up window during a conversation is more disturbing than helping.

Great tool for virtual collaboration
- Instant messaging/chatting is excellent. You can have multiple windows open at the same time.
- Can set notifications when the user's status changes e.g. is online.
- Allows to conduct video calls with multiple people.
- Excellent and modern user interface.
- Works well with iOS.
- Excellent integration with MS Outlook.
- High bandwidth is needed for video calls /screen sharing which at time leads to lag.
- Takes more time to start up when we restart the system.
- Limited features like breakout room, voting options are not available.

Skype is a great alternative to Zoom and Google Meet but they're kind of all interchangeable
