What is Smartsheet?

Smartsheet is an online project management and collaboration tool from Smartsheet.inc in Bellevue, Washington. The software has a characteristic spreadsheet like interface but contains the full panoply of features expected of project management and collaboration software, such as automated alerts, instantaneous updating and sharing across team members, resource management facilitating budgeting and task allocation, nested tasks organized in a hierarchy, a Gantt chart view, the ready production of exportable reports (e.g. Excel), and integration with email. Across spreadsheets cells can be linked allowing the creation of master spreadsheets that provide ready summaries or automated reports. Smartsheet's capabilities can be expanded with a multitude of apps (e.g. Dropbox, Google Apps) or integrated into combinatory solutions (e.g. with Salesforce) to tailor fit business needs. It supports full mobile access.

Three tiers cover Smartsheet's pricing options. The Basic level provides core features for small groups of individuals, while the Team level is recommended for groups of up to 50 people and supports more user features, allows multiple sheet creators, and has reporting functions. The Enterprise level is a custom fit tier for groups of greater than 50 individuals or companies, and may include dedicated support personnel if desired.

Smartsheet was the most cost-effective option we found, and least complex. It's simple to get used to and onboard colleagues too. Functionalities are similar to Excel, and sheets can be uploaded from prior Excel files. Overall it seemed to be the best option, and this proved to be the case throughout our use of the tool over the past two years.

Smartsheet is a unique data and project management collaboration tool that sets itself apart from its competitors. Teams have the ability to create extremely customized dashboards that have data flowing to and from multiple worksheets and workspaces. Smartsheet has the ability to do so much more than just data reporting. The platform offers project management solutions such as Gannt charts, reminders, and tools to better understand and keep projects moving and on-time. Overall, I choose Smartsheet because the platform is consistently being upgraded with new features and has a passionate user-base ready to solve problems.

The dynamic nature of SmartSheet can do the same things as the other tools I've used (Trello, Asana, Basecamp, etc.), but you are not locked into a single methodology or format. You have the flexibility to create the type of project tracking tool that works best for your situation. Reporting and dashboards make sharing simple by stripping out only relevant or shareable information for external parties, while still maintaining all of the mission-critical data on the back-end that you need to operate.

We selected Smartsheet because we needed something between Excel and MS Project. We have a group of staff members who were not Project Managers by trade, but yet managed teams and staff who are supporting smaller efforts with task management. They were looking for a simple tool to deploy, that relies upon Active Directory and had proactive notification with reports. Smartsheet fits the bill right there in the middle.

MS Access is not user-friendly or intuitive. It is hard to use and hard to understand. I prefer Smartsheet - it is user-friendly and has so many intuitive functions and commands that you can build. It is a fantastic report builder and data and time tracking tool.

It does some things better and other things worse than all these products but what it does the best is balancing features across all these tools. I think it's unrealistic to expect a usable product that offers all the features our end users would need since this is meant to be a cross-team application that serves so many different use-cases. It would be too confusing or overly customized to have a product that delivers on everything. We think of Smartsheet as more of a central base where we come together to manage events at a high level.

Smartsheet offers the best blend of features from its direct and indirect competitors. It is intuitive and collaborative, like Asana. It provides entry-level features from DevOps in regards to Agile, it offers traceability and integrations better than both Teams and Liquid Planner, and has a far more intuitive, accurate Gantt chart view than Projects.

I liked Smartsheet for the ease of use and simplicity. Having a view in Gantt chart is great and very helpful. Being able to invite multiple people and have everyone collaborate was useful. It made my life as a manager of projects much much easier and saved me a lot of time when it came to presenting stuff to management.

Smartsheet is simpler to use and setup and we did not have professional services for implementing this product. We did have a few meetings with product management, however that was part of the implementation. That being said, if you would like to automate some tasks, create workflows, customizations, formulas, etc. you will need professional services.

Ultimately, Smartsheet was a middle ground between Jama (cumbersome and not very user friendly) and Trello (simple, pretty, easy to use, but less functionality). Smartsheet could be used successfully in more scenarios. Also, it has a card-view that looks like Trello anyways, with more functionality out of the box to start. In Trello you have to use add-ons to get additional features. Jama is just not fun to work in because it is ugly.

Smartsheet is well organized and easy to manipulate to a business's needs. While ClickUp has some similar features, it has a higher learning curve, and is not as intuitive. Smartsheet is also well supported, and is constantly being developed. ClickUp is new, and I don't believe has the support like Smartsheet does, although it is cheaper.

Smartsheet is way more comfortable to use and understand. Much better at collaboration. Smartsheet users can get up and running a lot more quickly with little training needed. On the other hand, Microsoft Project is an advanced tool with a deep set of features. It requires training before use to make sure you are using it correctly.

We used the SmartSheet free trial and were deeply impressed. Microsoft Excel sitting on a mail server and database with automatic Gantt Charts was our dream. We could track expected vs. actual time to complete a task, view bottlenecks, and identify time savings visually. Basecamp was ultimately a little tough to figure out intuitively and Microsoft Project was overly heavy, as far as software goes.

I evaluate software on a regular basis but not formally for our company, this is required for my job once i have reviewed the features and benefits I will advise our company if it is something we should or should not purchase.
I have evaluated many software packages in the past but that has been a long time ago, recently I evaluated SYSPRO for my company. In the past I have evaluated Microsoft packages like excel, word, access, etc.

Smartsheets has more PM features than Asana, whereas Asana seems to be better for a roadmap or higher level planning. MS Project is similar to Smartsheets, however less user friendly in my opinion

Smartsheet has all the basic features of MS Project with a superior collaboration tool. Being cloud-based, it gives user's access from anywhere anytime. Individual engineers and project managers are able to assign tasks and provide updates, improving communication. Project status can be checked easier. MS Project has more advanced resource allocation tools.

Smartsheet is very robust, and allows much more customization. It is not as user friendly, and takes more time to understand and get used to. Smartsheet integrates with just about all of these other tools. One of the best things about Smartsheet is that it can integrate with Salesforce, taking away the need for more Salesforce licenses, and allowing for mass data edits.
