.Asana is more task-oriented when I first tried it. I needed something that offered higher-level reporting and aggregation. Smartsheet's automation is also tighter. Podio is great for project-based intake workflows. It has very flexible and customizable fields allowing the owner to do many things with it. I selected Smartsheet because it offers the easiest solution to my project planning and tracking challenges

smartsheet performed badly in User Interface against the competition which unfortunately made the use of this software obsolete in our organisation. We finally use a series of other tools to do the same without going through the time consuming process of using smartsheet. We have built in-house time representation of where we stand on our project

I have used both Daptiv and Project Insight within companies of 60-200 users. These definitely have their use a place in a organization that is prepared to adopt one system and commit to requiring all team members use it to collaborate with. Smartsheet has been a great tool for an environment where that is not possible but you still need to get a project plan created to keep the team on track.

I have used Microsoft Project, Basecamp, OmniPlan and Excel to organize projects. Smartsheet, by far, is my favorite. Although Smartsheet is not quite as detailed with Gantt charts as Microsoft Project and OmniPlan, it is much more user friendly. Smartsheet also has the capability to do similar functions that you find in Excel such as formulas, sorting, etc.

However, my favorite [thing about] Smartsheet is the collaboration features and real-time updates. Linking cells across sheets together, leaving comment threads, adding attachments, using Google Hangouts, entering a sheet at the same time as your teammates, and sending updates and reminders are just a few examples of how teams can work together. Collaborators don't even need a license - they can simply log in if you invite them! Lastly, Smartsheet has solutions for so many different kinds of projects that I have used it both at work and for my many volunteer projects for large project management, planning events, managing grants, developing/conducting surveys and more. This does not even include the additional platforms I have not tried such as employee hiring, budgeting, and document routing. There seems to be a template or solution for just about anything. You just have to get in there and play!

Smartsheet has it's advantages for being cloud and browser based. I like this approach far better than applications. The interface is unified cross platform and both the software and documents generated within it are updated in real time.
The reason we aren't using Smartsheet as our primary tool is that our partners in China still use Microsoft Project. It seems the adoption of cloud based services to replace applications has been slow in China.

  • microsoft project,microsoft excel
Microsoft Project has been the standard for creating schedules and GANTT charts for us here at Minnkota Power. Even when I was going through college, this was the software that we learned on. The first time I started using Smartsheet, however, I never wanted to go back to Microsoft Project. Smartsheet is very user-friendly and is actually kind of fun to use! I also like the ability to collaborate on a project schedule at the same time as my co-workers. It reminds me a lot of Google Docs except set up for scheduling and project tracking.

  • Google Drive,Microsoft Access
Not everyone has a Gmail account or Microsoft Access, with Smatsheet you do not have to worry about that! They are cloud based and all you need to do is share your spreadsheet with another user if you wish. We currently are testing Smartsheet because it has many elements we seek to utilize and the live collaboration is great! I may not have used many other tools thus far, but Smartsheet is definitely a top leader for project management tools.

A lot of other products rely on the user to have in innate knowledge of gant charts and spreadsheet programming. Smartsheet is very user friendly and has an incredibly helpful interface to get you started. It's perfect for beginner users all the way to seasoned veterans of project management.

Smartsheet was the first and last project management software I tried - there was really no purpose in looking elsewhere after I saw what it could do. That said, I know people who have used some of Smartsheet's competitors as PM management solutions and as soon as I introduce them to Smartsheet, they quickly change over.

I was attempting to do all I've described with Google Sheets & SharePoint. Google Sheets didn't have all the functionality we needed. SharePoint was too difficult to set up and doesn't work well with Mac users. None of the solutions I listed could match Smartsheet's versatility and ease of use.

We have used Excel and Google Docs for the majority of our database management. It is difficult to compare these formats with Smartsheet simply because it is so far advanced from Excel and Google Docs. The visibility and function of having multiple users accessing the same data in real time is worth the cost of the platform.

We do use Google Drive and Google Docs for various projects, but this is a better tool for any spreadsheets we create and long-term projects that we want to track. It's also easier to keep track of changes with email notifications and the sheets don't get lost in a giant collection of documents, photos and files.

  • Excel,Google Sheets
Excel lacks the share-ability of Smartsheet. In order for multiple employees to use Excel for a project they have to constantly send updated documents back and forth to each other, and no more than one person can edit or view a document at once. Google Sheets isn't as easy to use and lacks many of the project management features that are available in Smartsheet.

It's cheaper than MPP and does all the MPP stuff that 90% of normal people need. If you need MPP but never use the super weird stuff, then you are all set. Smartsheet. And once you are there, the additional abilities will pleasantly surprise you.

OpenAir is more traditional project management software with resource management. Smartsheet allowed us to be more fluid / less structured so we could use Smartsheet for more versatile use cases. JIRA is very popular task management / issue tracking software which can be very powerful when coupled with workflow, however it is much more complex and expensive. Smartsheet was a simpler and effective alternative that really met our needs well when we were small.
