ETO [gives us] the capacity to explore [but also maintain operational consistency]. From delivery to delivery, you [don't have to learn] new symbols/new techniques - they simply keep on adding [useful features]. It is by all accounts truly stable on any workstation I've utilized it on. At the point when questions do come up, they [get] attention and are tended to by the support staff.
  • It has all the earmarks of being a company with low staff turnover and steady individuals to chat with.
  • We use it every day to deliver things for buying and checking verifiable costs of segments.
  • I would make a more granular client organization plot.
  • A portion of the passage techniques resembles an information base versus a bookkeeping page.
The only recommendation [I have is that] in the Total ETO stage [you need] to be specific about the capacity to oversee singular clients by bunch participation. When you have the boundaries defined it's alright. The only [issue is that it's] not as natural as a bookkeeping page style.

We have been using the Automated Reentry Management System (ARMS) suite of ETO Social Solutions since summer 2015. We have different applications related to managing and tracking incarcerated individuals in at least 33 institutions for various programs including the California Identification Card Program with DMV, operated by DAI (Division of Adult Institutions), and DRP (Division of Rehabilitative Programs), etc., for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The software is supposed to allow manual entry of individuals in a comprehensive timeline of events through touchpoints within a tailored dashboard.
  • The main dashboard page/portal is attractive in color and font design.
  • Honestly I'm really trying to be fair, but there is nothing this software does particularly well from the users standpoint.
  • Some of the support staff have been responsive over the years.
  • Still waiting for a seamless connection with SOMS (Strategic Offender Management System which is CDCR's main software for the State). We have been promised these two systems would speak to each other, but there has been zero progress in 6 years, and locally, ETO blames SOMS which is not helpful since SOMS is robust and functional unlike ETO-ARMS. Human manual entry of data dumps has been the "solution".
  • The interface is far from friendly or intuitive. It also has serious functionality issues. It requires multiple duplication and excessive clicks for data entry (ex: entering the same date multiple times, not showing pertinent required info on the same screen, not remembering last entries and ERASING previous data entered when entering new data, using different terms for the same action, disallowing some corrections, not speaking to itself on basic logic - like having to enroll an individual profile just so you can tell the software to un-enroll him in 3 different fields etc). Another big problem is the reports generator cannot be trusted as the data is often wrong or dated (perhaps because it requires data from SOMS which speaks a different language). They don't understand how to filter previous entries and terms, so the coding is probably defective or misunderstood at the root. This is taxpayer funded programming that the state legislature requires for budget decisions. Entry touchpoints have fundamental basic flaws and reports are basically garbage. We have so many examples of issues...too many to list here. 2-3 years ago a team was set up to assess contract renewal with ETO, and despite multiple examples of problems submitted, we have zero progress, the team was disbanded and the contract renewed.
  • I understand that the issues we are dealing with may have more to do with the way our product was customized for California, and not necessarily the software's inherent capabilities, but either way, the ARMS part of ETO has become somewhat of a running joke. Even an ARMS support Manager admitted to me that ARMS "sucks". In my honest opinion the entire ARMS suite should be trashed and rebuilt with consultations from actual users. It is costing countless man-hours of lost productivity and employee frustration. Sorry but we have been dealing with these problems for years.
ETO Social Solutions should be avoided until they start caring about the problems generated by their software. In regards specifically to the ARMS suite utilized by the entire state of California, until the ETO software learns how to speak with SOMS, and unless it can be customized by knowledgeable people who consult with front-line users. It is not appropriate to provide the state legislature with bad data. I have 6 years of experience with it and I have multiple sources of agreement from fellow users throughout the state.

ETO is being used for our Career Connections program. Our department is the only one that uses ETO within our organization. ETO by Social Solutions addresses our metrics, invoicing for our contracts with continuous improvement for our support services.
  • ETO does well with collecting our data and allowing us to see where we can improve in our mission services.
  • ETO by Social Solutions does well with responding to issues or concerns with the use of the software and they have very friendly customer support representatives.
  • ETO by Social Solutions provides our organization with the tools we need to track the successes of our individuals as they progress along the path to employment.
  • ETO by Social Solutions could improve on the availability of free basic training for new users.
  • ETO by Social Solutions could definitely improve upon its Help Manual. The search engine is not very intuitive and often returns results that are unnecessary.
ETO by Social Solutions is well suited for our program as it allows us to gather the necessary information to improve upon our mission services.

It is used by the entire organization. ETO quantifies our results for reporting to funders.
  • Lots of customization available
  • Clean design
  • Frequent performance issues.
  • Many features feel 'grafted' on without a full scope consideration of how they could be best integrated into the existing interface. The result is a congested array of settings UIs that require the primary user to develop and maintain workflow checklists off of the site itself.
  • Reporting tool has numerous performance and design flaws.
Very helpful for tracking client records; leaves much to be desired as a reporting tool.

We use the ETO product for the entire agency although we are still in process of pushing out to all lines of business. ETO is addressing our issue if evaluating outcomes for participants when receiving multiple services. It also allows us to customize for our unique programs.
  • The ability to design touchpoints and reports is very powerful with ETO
  • ETO support services is another strength they are extremely helpful when you have issues
  • ETO is continuously improving on the product which gives us more ability to improve
  • Would love for them to have a module for HUD Housing Counseling
I believe if you truly want to track outcomes ETO gives you the ability to do this very well. If you just want a case management software this maybe more than what you need.

We use ETO across multiple departments and to help us manage our client and service data. We have multiple ways a client can enter into our building and we have multiple services we offer. ETO provides us an opportunity to better and more accurately track the services we provide to our clients and their family members.
  • ETO's customization allows for the use of so many different and unique applications.
  • The ability to build extremely customized reports also allows us to get very detail oriented results or very broad building wide stats.
  • The additional added features such as workflow, referrals, and ETO Engage are useful in their own way and add more ways to better track and record data while simplifying some end-user processes.
  • ETO can be a bit clunky. Lots of added unnecessary clicking. I'm hoping the new UI will bring it up to speed.
  • ETO Results is built on the SAP BO Web platform and although it's one of the best reporting engines out there for customization, it provides little to no feedback by comparison to other reporting platforms in terms of error checking and predictive text, which with such a complicated system, would be really helpful.
  • ETO customization is awesome, but there is a need to add some more functionality to building out TouchPoints and creating questions and conditionals. The process is long and cumbersome when compared to any other form builder, even the more complex ones.
I can see from an education perspective how it would be an incredible fit. The functionality is all there and growing. From a CAC perspective, it's still a work in progress, especially for larger CACs where lots more services are provided and the lines between programs blur a bit more. I think that ETO is becoming more user-friendly for CACs and Social Solutions is moving in the right direction too. I can't wait for some of the new features to roll out and be able to use them in our system. I really do think that will improve our user experience significantly.

We currently manage client data within ETO across several programs in the commission. We are in the process of building out a new system to meet out federal reporting requirements.
  • I like the dashboard.
  • The new touch points, but haven't had much of a chance to use them.
  • Reporting.
  • The ability to have assessments on one page as opposed to separate tabs.
Its reporting feature is very useful and allows direct care staff to run reports independently to better manage their caseloads. The level of navigation that is required is problematic though, especially when staff is attempting to collect the data while with the families are waiting. It distracts from them building a strong relationship.

The current ETO system that we pay for is used exclusively for one program that serves clients across three different departments within our organization. It was purchased to serve as a case management tool, as we currently do not have any technology infrastructure to serve this purpose. It was also selected for its data collection features that would permit us to pull data about clients in this program.
  • The administration of user accounts is easy to learn and manage.
  • Creating touchpoints is relatively straightforward.
  • The chat feature for help/support is really useful.
  • The user interface is not intuitive and exceptionally difficult for non-tech savvy people to learn.
  • The system is not as customizable as we were led to believe at the initial purchase.
  • The system does not interface well with other systems. Organizationally we are moving towards data integration, and we will likely replace ETO because of this limitation.
  • Considering the limitations of the system, the cost is quite high. We've seen only marginal benefits of this system over pen and paper, and the ROI is not promising.
  • The initial build process was very frustrating. We didn't understand what the developer was billing us for. Something like simple touchpoint forms was billed for more hours than it would seem to require.
  • A system like this should be both fully mobile compatible and have offline functionality.
  • We would benefit from more nuanced security settings.
I have a difficult time imagining a scenario where this would be an optimal solution. In our current program that is using ETO, we have many external partners that need to be involved in client care. However, the external partners refuse to use ETO because it is redundant to their existing systems (and we cannot link ETO to their existing databases). Our staff operating this program are largely field-based. ETO is a barrier for them because they can't use it on their mobile phones, and there is no offline capability. Many of the buildings that our clients meet with their providers in (such as hospitals and long-term care facilities) are old buildings that block cell signals and don't have WiFi. It's severely burdensome for staff to have to take notes on paper when meeting with clients in these settings and then have to type it into ETO later.

We use ETO as a case management system for our families. We use it across the entire organization. It allows us to compile and report on all case notes associated with individuals and families. These notes start when we perform our initial intake response and follow them through treatment and follow up sessions.
  • Custom reporting allows for almost unlimited reporting options.
  • The ability to create your own touchpoints means you can capture any data point you wish.
  • Available webinar training sessions for administrators and reporting training.
  • Still not browser neutral (requires Internet Explorer)
  • Almost too much customization involved in reporting and administration. Definitely requires a dedicated admin to effectively use this software in the organization.
  • High turnover in the account manager and customer relations team.
It is a powerful tool for non-profits of a larger size but a dedicated admin is a must. Smaller organizations without a dedicated admin would be better served by a different product.

ETO is our electronic record keeping system for our non profit with more than 22 programs and 115 users. It allows us to better tell our story through data. ETO addresses out ability to determine areas of growth and retraction in programs and staff. The ability to use date to drive decisions has been helpful for our agency.
  • Allows our users a place to report their daily activities with our neighbors
  • Allows our agency to have data to drive decisions in staffing, programming, and expansion
  • Allows our agency to share our work with funders, donors, and staff
  • Allow our agency to dive deeper into data to identify trends in population and services
  • Staff reports that sometime it is not easy to use when trying to do multiple data entry points with neighbors during the same visit
  • I would like to see an easier way to create reports using the legacy platform
  • Customizing reports for export to other databases
Being able to use a database is better than not. Meaning there are still nonprofit agencies that are not using databases, and ETO is a great solution. When speaking with other agencies that do not have a database in place, I always suggest Social Solutions as an option for them when determining their data needs.

We use ETO to store data for over 56 youth programs, track program indicators, and measure outcomes for approximately 5,000 annual clients.
  • Customer Service
  • Results Training
  • Tracking several clients who may be involved in more than one program
  • User Interface
  • Increased assistance with transitioning from outdated features to new features
  • More advanced classes in results
More suited: organizations that track outcomes for several clients, especially that keep clients for set periods of time.
Less suited: organizations that might only interact with a client one time.

ETO is being used in province-wide shelters of our organization. ETO is being used to track client data for our programs and is allowing us to use that data to make decisions, primarily at the intake, follow up, exit, referrals and consultation level. We are using it to track the data on social issues of homelessness, health care, employment and to track the use of public services on social issues.
  • ETO is good in capturing the variety of data that can give us more ways to understand what is happening with the participants we serve.
  • The referral system within ETO allows us to make easier referrals between programs and track how often that occurs, tracking the follow up in consultation etc.
  • Participant dashboards are customization and can be very helpful for direct service providers in serving their participants.
  • Customer service has gotten a little better recently, but overall our experience up to this point has been pretty bad .Turn around on issues is really bad and sometimes takes forever to get a resolution.
  • No proper documentation or manuals available.
  • Training is not free even if you pay tons of $$ for software.
Tracking clients and progress with follow-ups, good case management suite.

We use ETO by Social Solutions for all programs across the organization for information gathering and operations.

In terms of information gathering, we use it to count the number of people we serve, understand our population's demographics, understand our efforts and impacts. We use this information to make reports for our funders, apply for grants, evaluate our programs and improve our services.

In terms of operations, ETO is used by case managers to track relevant information about their participants, check on individual participants' progress/history, and communicate with other staff members about this work. ETO has built-in processes that enable staff members to do their work and have all the necessary documentation to do their work. Managers use ETO to see how the program is performing, and how individual staff members are performing. They also pull their own reports for funders.
  • Excellent report building platform. Very versatile.
  • Highly customizable user interface; a lot of flexibility in form building and dashboards.
  • Tracks all the right things - demographics, forms, enrollments, duplicates. Well made for case management.
  • ETO needs to be mobile friendly because a lot of our staff do outreach work, including all touchpoints, demographics, enrollments, and dashboards on their phone.
  • Too many ways to get to the same thing. E.g. Add New Participant Tab, Add New Participant in Navigation Bar, Add New Participant on Home Page, etc. This generates mistakes and a need for very thorough training and tight oversight.
  • Inability to remove touchpoints from custom universes once they have already been added. There is a limit of 20 touchpoints per custom universe. If the touchpoints in a universe have become obsolete or irrelevant, there is no way to make room for a new, more relevant touchpoint. Old touchpoints can be disabled but not removed.
  • Need to pay extra for email and calendar notifications. This should be a built-in function, as the software already costs a lot, and many organizations cannot afford to spend more to get this vital functionality.
  • It would be great if a "Case Conference" chat feature could be attached to participants. Case managers could enter the chat room and relay important information about the participant to each other. This could also work when people aren't there in real time, like emails. The important part is that all of this information would be accessible UNDER the participant's profile or dashboard that it's regarding.
Most appropriate for shelter bed tracking and social work case management. It is good for tracking relevant participant information, setting a process for staff to follow, providing communication for all who work with the participant.
Less appropriate for tracking casual labour work placements. Although we are currently using ETO for this, it was not designed for it and is not the perfect solution. We have it rigged up so that Entities are employers and Participants are workers.
Some problems with this include:
  • Cannot put an alert that pops up for an employer (Entity)
  • When a participant is cross-referenced in an entity touchpoint (such as a work order), this touchpoint does not show up on the participant's dashboard or touchpoints.
  • Long waiting times for reports.
It is also less appropriate for scheduling appointments. As mentioned previously, there is no interface between outlook and ETO that is not beyond the expected software costs of the average Non-Profit organization. This is a vital function that needs to be included.

ETO is being used by a few of our programs. We are in the process of implementing it across the organization. The product is user-friendly and intuitive.
  • ETO gives us easy access to our data.
  • ETO is user-friendly to users entering data.
  • ETO offers us flexibility in customizing the product for use that makes sense to us.
  • I'd like to see it compatible with more browsers.
  • We are required to enter data into HMIS (service point) by HUD. We want to move towards having all our data in ETO, but don't want to ask staff to enter data twice. Ideally, we would do all our data entry into ETO and have the system share required elements with HMIS.
  • Many of the features are standard throughout the software, but occasionally things look different. I'd like to see more standardization.
It is well suited for storing demographics and touchpoints.

ETO is being used in about a quarter of our organization. We plan to use it for half the organization--for the programs and services that are primarily not healthcare. For our healthcare programs, we are using Netsmart Avatar, an electronic health records system.

ETO is being used to track client data for our programs and is allowing us to use that data to make decisions, primarily at the management level. We plan to increase our use of ETO in this way and also plan to use ETO as a way for us to coordinate care for individuals and families who may be receiving services from multiple programs and also to help direct service staff gain insights that can help them serve their clients better.
  • ETO captures the variety of data that can give us more ways to understand what is happening with the participants we serve.
  • Participant dashboards are customizable and can be very helpful for direct service providers in serving their participants.
  • The referral system within ETO allows us to make easier referrals between programs and track how often that occurs.
  • It doesn't take a strong technical person to set up programs and other pieces within ETO.
  • The interface can be a bit clunky, especially the interface for navigating the setup forms for creating programs, touchpoints, setting security, etc. Way too many clicks and confusing workflows and terminology.
  • Lack of up-to-date documentation for administering the system.
  • Customer service has gotten a little better recently, but overall our experience up to this point has been pretty bad. And along those lines our implementation experience was awful.
I think ETO can be a very good solution for mid-sized and larger nonprofits. I think it is especially well suited for organizations that are trying to do more with their data (making innovative decisions, gaining insights). But in order for an organization to be successful with ETO the organization will need to be prepared to invest resources in a lot of staff training to gain the full benefits. I feel like ETO is better than anything else I've seen in the social sector and Social Solutions seems dedicated to making continuous improvements so it will likely get even better. However, that's going to come with a cost, so an organization is going to need to be ready to invest a lot more resources than a lot of non-profits are used to investing in order to reap the benefits of the system.

ETO is utilized across the entire organization from our direct service staff to our Chief Officers. We use ETO to collect almost all of our participant, staff, and program data. ETO allows for data collection and customization so that we are able to collect the majority of data in one system. We utilize ETO reports to access this data in a manner that produces many types of reports depending on the audience. We create reports that are used at various internal levels that contribute to our continual cycle of improvement as well as reports for funders and other stakeholders.
  • ETO reports allows you to pull your data in many ways so that you can align different data points, look at data over time, or at one point in time. I haven't encountered a data collection and reporting system that is as robust as what ETO currently offers.
  • Build custom assessments to collect data that are in alignment with your program model and/or services provided.
  • ETO is not user friendly for the novice user and visually it is not pleasing to the eye. This hinders the 'buy in' process.
  • There needs to be an online registration feature so that online accounts can be created and people can apply for certain programs and services. Also, to increase communication between providers and their clients.
  • ETO has a lot of bugs that cause it to stop working during the middle of using it. A lot of error messages. Most of the people using ETO are not researchers or data analysts. They are people that like to implement services with other people. Because their weakness is already data and systems anytime the system isn't working or has an issue (which is quite often) it really discourages them from using the system.
It is well suited for an organization that has a data department. ETO does require a significant amount of time and someone dedicated to data management.

The Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County uses ETO to track all of our programs funded by the local and state government. Our coalition is responsible for overseeing the School Readiness and Voluntary Prekindergarten programs in Manatee County. We use additional programs to support our childcare providers and income-eligible families and track this information in ETO with the end goal of being able to determine if the services we provide move the needle on school readiness at kindergarten entry.
  • ETO is easy to navigate by site or by program
  • Setting up programs and creating touch points is relatively easy
  • The ability to email our clients through ETO would be beneficial
  • Batch uploads don't always function properly
  • The Social Solutions training academy for site administrators and report writers needs some work.

Our organization uses ETO in order to track participant data, including demographics, and manage case management. This includes all participant contacts, location services, anonymous contacts, and outcomes management. We are able to track participants that are enrolled in multiple service areas and unique outcomes for each program area and share select information across our entire organization.
  • It's fully customizable to meet our needs
  • Security settings allow us to protect participant data
  • Comprehensive data across all service areas
  • Some features load slowly
  • The user interface is outdated
  • Some desired changes take Social Solutions a long time to process, if at all
I think if an organization is dedicated to providing the investment, both financially and with human capital, then they can be successful. It takes a lot of time, both in planning and in training, in order to build a system and get staff onboard to effectively use all the features that are included in the system. If an organization is relatively small, the software may be more than what the organization needs, or if an organization is not able to invest in time and money then they will not have a successful implementation.

ETO by Social Solutions is used by Proyecto Pastoral to track output and outcome data for the after school program, IMPACTO, the Academic Case Management for the IMPACTO program, and the Early Childhood Education Centers. We use the database to track enrollment and demographic information, as well as pre- and post- surveys taken by the programs. Additionally, the Academic Case Managers (ACMs) track student progress through a variety of 'TouchPoints' we've created that allow us to interact with the students and help them fulfill their academic goals. I highly recommend ETO for tracking this data, though taking into consideration that training in administration and reporting will be needed in order to efficiently use all (or many) of the aspects of ETO. Great database!
  • Being able to see dashboards for staff and each of the participants is great! It allows us to see at-a-glance information for each of the participants!
  • Grouping students into collections works great for us! It mirrors what we do in 'real life' and allows us to see groups of people at a time, rather than all participants in our 100+ participant program.
  • Customization has helped us tremendously! We are able to customize attendance values as well as custom demographic points that we want to track.
  • It takes a lot of training and understanding to be able to build a report for outputs or outcomes. Although it's improved its user interface and experience, it would be great to be able to do things 'simpler' when wanting to pull information out of the database.
ETO by Social Solutions is well suited for Case Management. The touchpoints done for participants can be as simple or detailed as you want. Also, we found that the collections feature is great for our purposes and allows us to track cohorts or groups of participants.

ETO is being used as a primary (only or first) database by 33% of our programs at Congreso. That number increases to 80% as a secondary database. As a whole, ETO is used as our basis for data integration (i.e. most staff have an ETO account)! Our yearly scorecard is influenced by our metrics in ETO: clients served, demographics, case management trends, etc. ETO also reaches almost every administrative department from Marketing, to fundraising, we are able to have data ownership, and control of the reporting and most importantly, usability for frontline staff.
  • ETO is customizable, even when a feature is deemed “limited” staff at Social Solution usually know a manageable work-around and keep the end user in mind.
  • ETO staff/support are honest about the systems capabilities. They know what features are “in-the-works” and are responsive to requests.
  • Frontline data entry folks need to be able to see and visualize their data. Color, visuals we need these things!
  • Referral system can be improved to have more response/follow-up once a referral is sent across sites.
ETO is well suited for case management, casenotes, confidentiality, and usability. ETO wouldn’t be helpful as a financial management tool. We have had workforce and housing programs that needed administrative support, and in this way that have found ETO to be limited.

ETO is being used by about 75% of our organization, particularly by our direct service staff. ETO aids us in tracking data on our program participants and allows us the ability to create reports for internal use or for our funders. Its reporting capabilities outshine other solutions that I've used.
  • ETO helps us track and standard data and custom data requirements give to us by our funders.
  • ETO Results, built on Business Objects, gives up powerful reporting to help us answer critical questions.
  • ETO listens to customer feedback in order to improve the software and make it more modern and user-friendly.
  • ETO has an outdated user interface us has recently announced plans for giving it a facelift.
  • ETO sells many add-ons which are very helpful but the extra cost can sometimes be a burden to non-profits.
Social services and case management are areas where it could be used well. It also has a HMIS package that is helpful that allows for quick HUD reporting to SAGE.
