Socialcast is deployed to all FactSet departments and employees worldwide. We implemented Socialcast in 2009, as we had experienced rapid growth which was putting pressure on our ability to share information. We needed a way to quickly onboard new employees while preserving our corporate culture. Now, Socialcast goes beyond onboarding and has become the go-to hub for employees to ask questions, share information, and solve problems.
  • Share the collective knowledge of our company in a centralized location
  • Publicly praise and thank employees
  • Make strategic information and corporate values accessible to all employees worldwide
  • Tagging and groups are useful, but that only extends to text posts. We post a lot of images in our community and it would be great to tag those for people and topics as well.
  • When we purchased Socialcast in 2009, they were the only provider with analytics on platform usage. However, in the years since, I haven't seen a lot of development in their analytic tools. This is a shame, as analytics are critical to demonstrating usage and proving the ROI of an enterprise social network.
Socialcast has been a great tool for FactSet. I would recommend it to any firm looking for an easy-to-use tool to centralize communication and collaborate on a global scale.
  • Sales teams have created groups for key accounts to update a broad range of people within the company about the status of sales opportunities or issue resolution. This allows for a more informed and streamlined sales process.
  • We are able to share strategic goals more broadly, across all departments / employee levels / location to increase employee engagement.
  • We are able to celebrate corporate milestones and have created "affinity groups" to let employees engage at the more "human level" which increases employee loyalty and buy-in to our culture.

Beyond the value FactSet derives from using the platform, Socialcast (the firm) has been a good partner to FactSet. We've experienced very little downtime with the service and they have been responsive and fair with enhancement requests and questions.

  • Socialcast has an exceptional user experience. With very few idiosyncrasies, it works well on every platform I've tried.
  • The platform has such a high level of ease of use, it becomes somewhat addicting.
  • Social analytics are superb.
  • The platform is highly intuitive and requires zero training or coaching in order for network members to become productive with it.
  • It's extremely reliable. Only once in 4 years, was the product not available, and that was only for about a half-hour. In that half-hour, we realized how dependent we were on it. (Very.)
  • The multi-device and deployment options are excellent. On-premise, Private Cloud, and Multi-tenant SaaS all available.
  • The mobile apps for iPhone, tablets, and Android render well with a beautiful UI/UX. The desktop AIR app is equally highly usable.
  • There is limited functionality with some of the mobile device apps. I'm only familiar with iPhone, but I've heard this from other users. Photos sometimes do not render; you can sometimes not see links that were posted from the web view.
  • Socialcast does not offer presence which we'd find useful.
  • Ha. We could not run our business without Socialcast. It is our primary channel of communication.
Unless something happens to demonstrate Socialcast, as a function of its ownership with VMWare, will not be investing in future releases of the product or the leadership changes direction with the product, we see no reason to move off the platform.
For some reason, Socialcast does not get mentioned in a list of enterprise social networks often. Yammer, Jive, and Chatter draw headlines, but Socialcast is a very strong competitor in this field. Of course, the differences between full-featured platforms like Jive and so-called micro-blogging platforms is another discussion altogether. Suffice to say, if you're considering a Chatter, Yammer, or even Tibbr, you should look carefully at Socialcast.

  • The user interface is exceptional. Writing updates, editing updates is simple and very comfortable for all users.
  • Admin features are intuitive.
  • Inviting people to the network is simple, and on-boarding doesn't require any extra training or support.
  • The recognition feature is done well (thanks).
  • Notifications are excellent on mobile and desktop devices.
  • I'd prefer to have fuller user profiles.
  • Tagging isn't exactly intuitive.
  • The projects feature could probably be improved.
