Convenient Integration: Many users have found IPAM's integration with the SolarWinds suite to be convenient for tracking multiple sites and subnets. This feature has been praised by several reviewers as it allows them to easily manage their IP address allocation and DNS updates in one centralized solution.

Efficient IP Management: The ability of IPAM to manage IP addresses and update DNS as soon as a device is discovered has been highly valued by users. This functionality has proven useful for managing IP address availability and ensuring accurate DNS updates, according to numerous reviewers.

Effective Capacity Planning: Users appreciate IPAM's ability to reserve and comment on IP addresses for effective IP address allocation and capacity planning. Several reviewers have noted that this feature helps them allocate IPs efficiently, avoid conflicts, and plan for future network expansion.

Slow, Clunky Web Interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the slow, clunky web interface of SolarWinds IP Address Manager. Users find it difficult to navigate and perform tasks efficiently, impacting their overall experience with the software.

Difficult Initial Setup: Several reviewers have reported that the initial setup of the software is not user-friendly and requires a learning curve. This can be challenging for new users who are unfamiliar with the Orion platform.

Limited Options for Organizing Devices: Users have complained about the limited options for organizing devices in SolarWinds IP Address Manager. They feel that there is a lack of flexibility in the licensing tiers and find it difficult to effectively organize their devices as per their requirements.

Users commonly recommend the following regarding the software for managing IP addresses:

  1. Trying the free option before purchasing: Many users suggest taking advantage of the free version of the software to get a feel for its functionality and suitability for their needs. This allows users to assess whether it meets their requirements before committing to a paid version.

  2. Considering other options like InfoBlox and Mice & Men: Some users suggest exploring alternative software options such as InfoBlox or Mice & Men. These alternatives may offer different features or better meet specific requirements, so users recommend comparing different solutions to find the best fit.

  3. Looking for bundle purchase with other products for a better deal: Reviewers mention that while the software itself can be pricey, they recommend exploring bundle purchases that include additional products or services. By bundling multiple products together, users may be able to secure a better deal or more cost-effective licensing options.

It is important to note that users also mention areas for improvement, such as inadequate support and resource-intensive nature of the software. However, these are not counted as among the three most common recommendations.

We use IPAM to track subnet and host IP address assignments for our entire network. Primarily used for static IP assignments in our data centers and as a way to track dynamically assigned addresses from our DHCP infrastructure. This allows us to avoid assigning a duplicate IP addresses to static devices. The user interface is very intuitive and the color-coded icons allow us to quickly look down the list to see what addresses are being used and unused. Solarwinds also added a nice feature to test to see if the IP address is active elsewhere before reserving it. the search engine allows us to quickly focus on IP addresses at the subnet or host level.
  • Ease of use to assign/register IP addresses.
  • Easy search utility.
  • Intuitive.
  • Integration with Solarwinds Orion.
  • I do not see any holes in the product.
  • Ability to customize the user interface for management.
  • Ability to generate management graphical reports on IP status.
  • The ability to delegate user access to specific subnet or ranges.
An easy-to-use IP address manager that is integrated with Orion. This is a fully-featured application that is supported by the vendor's knowledgeable support staff. The graphical interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. We access the IPAM application throughout our network with a secure web connection and leverage the AD user account integration to lower our administrative overhead of the product.
  • Quick and easy way to track our IP address space usage.
  • The centralized data for all of our subnets in all of the various groups in the organization reduce the possibility of duplicate addressing and multiple applications where one consolidated application is more efficient.
  • The ease of use reduces the impacts of errors and training overhead to onboard new users to the product.
  • With IPAM integrated into Orion, we have a single pane of glass to manage multiple networking tools.
Sorry.. this is the only real IPAM I have used. The old-fashioned way has always been a spreadsheet. So, IPAM is much better than the manual approach.

We wanted a fully-featured IP address manager that was integrated with our existing network management platform. Solarwinds IPAM provided us with that product.
  • Keeping track of our IP address space assignments and utilizations.
  • A quick and efficient search tool to identify specific IP addresses and subnets.
  • A centralized IP address tool that can be shared between the server and networking teams.
  • I don't think we are using IPAM outside of its common use cases.
  • We are satisfied with what it gives us and do not see any additional use cases at this time.
I do not see any different approach to doing research and a cost/benefit analysis.
No
Change management was a minor issue with the implementation
We followed out internal change management review and approval process. This is normal and part of our process. This is owned by the networking group and not considered an enterprise production application, so we have a degree of flexibility in our implementations.
  • We had no issues during the implementation.
It was easy and straightforward. There we no issues and the ease of use was welcome.
  • no training
Yes, IPAM is very easy to learn. There are also online resources provided by SolarWinds if needed. Training would depend on the level of staff experience. however, this is not a very complex product.
We do have premium support but it is rarely used for IPAM support.
IPAM does everything we require it to do and has been reliable. We do not suffer from missing features and find it to be an easy-to-use tool for our organization.
I do not recall personally contacting SolarWinds support for this product.
We have not experienced any scalability issues with this product. However, SolarWinds needs to allow users to scale horizontally without any license restrictions. For example, we would like to separate Netflow and Orion onto different platforms but are unable to due to license restrictions.
We have never had any availability issues with SolarWinds products.
We do not integrate IPAM into other systems other than the standard Orion integration. The performance is reasonable, however, we are running all the SolarWinds applications on a very large server.
I was not involved in the sales process. However, the sales team contacts us to see how we are doing and if we are satisfied.
SolarWinds is a very responsive organization and we are very satisfied when interfacing with the various groups inside the company. I personally feel they have a very knowledgeable and responsive support organization.
I was not involved in this.
Just standard vendor relations, nothing special.
Yes
Yes, very easy and seamless. We had no issues and it was part of a larger upgrade. There were no unexpected outcomes.
  • Keeping track of our IP address space reservations and usage.
  • Integration with other Solarwinds products.
  • I ma not aware of what is planned by SolarWinds.

We use SolarWinds IPAM to manage the subnets at our many office locations across the world. It allows us to quickly see subnet status, IP availability, and update our DNS quickly. This prevents us from duplicating IP addresses and causing communication errors.
  • IP address availability
  • DNS updates
  • Capacity planning
  • Customizable dashboards
  • Resolution automation
  • Better scripting base
If you already have SolarWinds Products, there's no other product that I have seen on the market that incorporates all network management and IPAM tools so seamlessly. No longer having to have several consoles open to manage DHCP, DNS, and Subnets saves so much time and makes the whole process much more manageable.
  • Simple IP address assigning
  • Easily avoids IP address conflicts
  • Capacity planning for subnets simplified
I don't know of another solution that is as well-rounded and efficient as SolarWinds IPAM.
SolarWinds Virtualization Manager (VMAN), SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
We looked at a couple of solutions, but once we were decided on other SolarWinds products, it wasn't really even a choice of if we would use something else.

For years, we have used SolarWinds IP Address Manager to keep an inventory of all our networks, both IT and OT, which allows us to have more than 24000 IP controlled at present. The service makes it easier for us to know which networks are starting to have free IP availability problems and other value-added utilities that make routine tasks much easier.

  • Discovery
  • Management of transient IP
  • DHCP management
  • DNS monitoring
  • Security
  • Networking
  • User Support
  • Develpoment
It works well in areas that already have management procedures, and works worse in those network departments that do not have established procedures.
  • Less support hours
  • Less incidences motivated by DHCP issues
  • Less incidences motivated by DNS issues
We evaluated Efficient and other products, but in a cost/benefit ratio, SolarWinds was the best choice for us.

I can't find any functionality not covered for IPAM right now
If I had to restart the process, I would try to weigh much more the simplicity of use and the roadmap against the specific problems of the time of acquisition.

Yes
Always when we need technician or commercial help, the official support service, as well as the community and support forums, are very active and with a very high response time.

One of the examples that come to mind is in case of system updates. Not only is there good documentation, SolarWinds will collaborate with you and guide you through the process of possible problems, before, during, and after the update process.

The essential functions are very well thought out and easy to use, the complexity increases, especially in advanced or secondary functionalities, which is why I do not give it as much importance.
We use a little enviroment, so we don't need scalability features yet.
We don't have any issues with availability. Our cluster setup provide us a 99,9% availability that is enough for us.
We have some performance issues at the begining of project, but with support help we made some changes in our architecture and every issues were solved.

I like to use the Solarwind IP Address Manager to discover all our IP addresses in different subnets, including AWS and Azure, even in an on-premise data center. The only challenge I found is that it's hard to move the existing group to another group. Other than that, I find it a good tool to have.
  • Easy to use
  • Centralize management of your IP inventory
  • IP Address Inventory
  • Moving existing group is a little bit of a challenge.
Will recommend this tool for a company with different data centers and subnets. Using IP address Manager will prevent duplicated ip addresses occurred during deployment of VMs. it will also give us the overview how we can manage data center deployment process. The Solarwinds IP address manager also provide us the subnets design and layout.
  • Avoid duplicated IP
  • SolarWinds IP Address Manager
GUI is very easy to handle.
Overall, SolarWinds support is not that great.
