The main area of using SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is helping to analyze the traffic. The getting information can be used in investigation of resources or circuit overutilization (as a result - inaccessibility) in real-time as well as for some period of time. Unfortunately, applications recognition is not the strong side of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) - it provides very general information.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer flow alerts to monitor all traffic on the network and we have numerous alerts set up to detect high traffic utilization. The alerts are easy to set up and customized to alert different groups to different concerning situations, like high traffic, jitter, and packet loss on our VoIP network. This was especially helpful when we were asked to roll out web conferencing tools to all employees. The tool is helpful for both virtualized and physical server environments.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is well suited and applicable for our organization in the area of troubleshooting networking issues. NTA is a very helpful resource in providing keen insights for our network engineers and system administrators whenever network latency, transmission lags, and delays in data communication and traffic flow create poor performance within our IT environment.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) can be used to monitor an enterprise network containing all kinds of connections, such as Internet and MPLS VPN. NTA is very helpful to troubleshoot a network issue because it can correlate events for different sites, circuits, and devices. It is still useful for a very small and simple network; however, the benefit may not be as much.

I would suggest this tool to any user that has to monitor multiple sites and locations where bandwidth monitoring can be a labor. This software works really well for central monitoring of multiple sites and services where having a technician onsite isn't feasible. I really like the reporting, though, and would recommend this for someone wanting to keep an eye on bandwidth usage for replication of data across sites.

Has been helpful when troubleshooting complex packet flow issues to figure out spikes in traffic, whether a packet made it through specific links, or to see what kind of protocols make up our traffic on different links.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is well suited for any network admin who needs to visualize all the traffic on the network and it allows them to search for historical data. While SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is a super powerful tool for most network admins, it may be less suited for beginners or for customers who do not have enterprise-level switches that may or may not support NetFlow.

SolarWinds Netflow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) provides our network/Security team insights into source/destination IP and port of n/w traffic flow. This is needed for troubleshooting network performance and communication. Helps analyze network patterns over a period of time. Reduce network outages, improve MTTR, and provide meaningful reports for bandwidth capacity planning.

SolarWinds is great for large environments where you need detailed information as to what is flowing through your network, so if you require a deep dive into your network traffic and estate I would definitely recommend it. In situations where there is the time to put into another but perhaps more complex to configure product I would recommend that.

While there are free alternatives for smaller networks, if you have a medium to larger scale network this is worth the cost for the reporting, monitoring, alerting, and helping you find problems before the phone calls start coming in.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is well suited for troubleshooting network latency. Problem areas are easily identified via dashboard or automated alerting. You are able to see the specific utilization of certain applications, which can make it easier to determine if the issue lies in the application itself or the server sourcing the application.

NTA is not suited for packet capture analysis.

In an environment with hundreds of network devices connected over different links, SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) can help understand application utilization. SolarWinds RBAC is neat to allow access to only SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) for any troubleshooting by Help Desk Users. Additionally, alerts can be customized for NetFlow-based traffic along with utilization.

If you are using SolarWinds npm, then I would definitely recommend to use NTA module along with, as without NTA Network team will miss one important piece of Bandwidth utilization. Without NTA you cannot plan Bandwidth usage in a better way. NTA is also important for security regulation, as it tells you what traffic is being generated by the endpoints, and whether its a security violation or not such as DdoS attacks.

[SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA)] does well for bandwidth utilization tracking from endpoint to endpoint, as well as what protocols are being utilized in the conversations. However, if you need a deeper dive, a product like Wireshark would need to be utilized. I have not seen the capability to store individual conversations and analyze them.

When you want to find out what users are using the most internet. If you need to update your budgeting for internet upgrades. You can see that traffic over your network and in some cases it can help you find ways to segment the traffic better, this is good for things like iSCSI.

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer works very well in tracking usage for individual endpoints on your network either for troubleshooting or for billing purposes. It allows you to deep dive into the traffic and determine if it's legitimate or malicious. Another feature we regular use is allowing our Customer Support Personal to run reports on customer usage which allows them to help people out who are having slow internet issues to determine where the slowdowns are coming from.
