The site my company and I manage uses SolarWinds Server and App Monitor to monitor all endpoints of our network. Primarily we use it for our virtual infrastructure but do use it for our physical infrastructure as well. Additional physical infrastructure monitoring is used for networking and APC systems. It's pretty much a one-stop-shop for monitoring as it gives us a great visual overview of our network. We handle a lot of highly sensitive and high availability products so utilizing this in our shop is extremely beneficial. Most of our IT department has, at minimum read-only but administrative access is used by other sections primarily server, VDI, cybersecurity, and networking.
  • Simply easy-to-glance-at graphical monitor.
  • Seamless integration with physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Overall responsive management capabilities.
Cons
  • Installation had a few issues with stability. We were able to implement the build, but we weren't sure if it came from our equipment or not.
  • While the main graphical monitor was easy to use, the overall menu system wasn't as intuitive.
I'd say in most scenarios, at least based on the size of the infrastructure, it's very well suited and scales easily. Especially during our expansion of our VDI infrastructure. Non-domain based infrastructure would be by best example.

We have 540+ stores around United States. Across the whole organization, we use SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor to monitor the network status of each location including every server that we use for IT operations. It has been a helpful tool for us to support every end-user as we have a full visibility of the network and server status in our company network.
  • Linux & Windows Servers
  • Cisco ASA firewalls
  • VMware servers
Cons
  • Adding port security monitoring
Yes, it is really well suited to be used by any organizations which has an IT infrastructure to be monitored and maintained.

The application is being used to allow myself and my team to leverage real time data to analyze and predict how our server farm is working.
  • Allows us to see potential issues arising from resource utilization
  • Clean interface
  • In depth data
Cons
  • UI could use updating
  • Not as user-friendly as could be
It is well suited for seeing which of our servers is under heavy stress and may fail.

We use SolarWinds to monitor our daily operational status throughout the corporation's IT infrastructure. SW is used solely by the IT department. It addresses the need for real-time network information to identify and remedy slowdowns, downed equipment, and maintain heartbeats.
  • Real-Time monitoring
  • Vast monitoring database
  • relatively easy to input nodes
Cons
  • licensing is very confusing
  • the GUI isn't as user-friendly as one would like
  • Would like to see better out of box reporting
Not appropriate for endpoint monitoring, but monitoring a core infrastructure you're able to track down where things are coming from. I'd strongly advise against using it for edge switching monitoring.

Being able to look at all VMware ESXi Blade health is immensely valuable. The alerts allow us to be proactive, instead of reactive, when dealing with issues. Implementing our custom map (with real time weather) has been a boon for our facilities that work with grain. Adding endpoints to the map is easy.
  • Alerts
  • Monitoring CPU
  • Monitoring bandwidth
Cons
  • Ease of use
  • Menus are confusing
  • Needs a supercharged VM or else it runs slow.
SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor is a necessity for any business that has more than one location. The ability to check your organization's network health at a glance is extremely valuable. Checking to see if servers are oversubscribed before anything goes wrong is also extremely valuable, and makes you look good to management when you can meet uptime metrics.
