Solarwinds TO be or NOT to be.
I inherited SolarWinds at Satellite healthcare but had used it at Peopelfinders.com along with AppDynamics. I expanded its use to monitor our DB environment as we wanted to leverage the investment we had and the product met our needs thus we invested in it.

SolarWinds for a more reliable infrastructure
I've used What's up Gold before and it's nothing like SolarWinds. SAM allows you to take it to the next level and get more real-time data and analytics of a machine other than just "it's up" or "it's down" or "it has a 1000MS response time. You'll know more details about the device in question than the basic "ping" tests.

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor is a Solar WIN when it comes to monitoring!
We also have the Extreme Management Center running for just our network equipment as well. We use it as a "second opinion" when it comes to network infrastructure problems. It does not monitor servers and applications, just the network infrastructure. Solarwinds SAM allows us to monitor the bigger picture and not just one small part.

Once we upgraded to a newer version of radius, I found it to be very challenging to configure and work with. It was time consuming and the alerts oft times didn't make sense. It got to the point where the time needed to setup up made it not worth even using.

SolarWinds are Warm and Strong
SolarWinds is not the cheapest, but it is a platform that you can continue to train on and grow from. Other products do not have the longevity and experience that SolarWinds brings. They continue to fill in any gaps they have with new products and feature sets to improve the quality of their system.

Monitoring with Solarwinds SAM
I don't use other products at this time. One reason is that they don't integrate with the network. Solarwinds Sam looks at the application on MS products, Linux and network. This gives me the option to see the whole environment, not just one piece. That's why I recommend it. All using a web browser.

The interface of the SolarWinds Application suites is familiar to us and is fairly intuitive. While there were some year two and year three cost savings associated with migrating to another platform, we decided that the monetary value would be lost in retraining and lack of ease of us. In short, the Solarwinds application suite, with a single interface for management and monitoring, sold us.

SAM holds true!
Dynatrace dives deeper into the user experience whereas SolarWinds gives a single-pane of glass into the overall health of the environment.
I have recently evaluated Panopta and LogicMonitor. Panopta wanted $100,000 a year for substandard monitoring. We pay $25,000 a year for the SolarWinds suite of SAM, NTA, NPM, IPAM, NCM. LogicMonitor and Panopta are 20 years behind. SolarWinds is a Lamborghini. Panopta, LogicMonitor, and Kaseya are Volkwagon Jettas. There is no comparison. This is why Microsoft or Amazon will buy SolarWinds within the next 5 to 10 years.

Great product, very robust
Meraki is not nearly as robust but seems to have the functionality that we utilize the most.
Cherwell is not a bad product, but Solarwinds simply blows it out the water! Both in terms of granularity and integration. Also, our Help Desk ties in very nicely with the monitoring portion.

How SolarWinds helps our company be competitive
This helps manage remote clients and even employees.
We have found the SaaS-based LogicMonitor to have many benefits over SolarWinds from an initial review. Especially around the inclusion (quickly) of any type of device, server, or end-user into the overall monitor/log to understand end-to-end traffic. The visual interface is also easier to navigate and manage large data through.

Efficient Data Monitor
- Datadog and SQL Sentry
SolarWinds is more cost effective with all the features that it provides as compared to Datadog and SQL Sentry. configuration is simpler than the rest of the tools.
