Sophos Email Review
We use Sophos Email to protect our organization from SPAM, malware, and other malicious email-borne activity. We use it to provide global inbound and outbound email policies, as well as staff self-service email encryption of sensitive data. We also use impersonation protection for our Executive and Finance identities.

Sophos email is a have to have!
We use Sophos email as a way to protect and filter our staff's email boxes from all the junk and malicious emails that arrive daily. The way it integrates into our Sophos Central web portal is highly efficient for anyone on the IT Team to manage users, quarantined emails, filters, DLP policy, etc. And the new on-demand sandbox feature is one of the coolest things I have seen this year! I highly recommend this solution for anyone looking for a complete and reliable email security product that will make you rest easy at night.

We use Sophos Email protection to help us defend our users against the multitude of threats that are out in the modern world. Though we educate our users about the dangers and threats, we cannot rely on education alone. Sophos' email security options give our company peace of mind when it comes to email security.

Sophos Email protection works as advertised!
Sophos Email is our main spam filter. This product does a great job keeping our users and site protected from Email attacks. It reduces the total spam we get everyday and I feel confident that it is preventing phishing attacks.

Sophos Email - You Get What You Pay For
We use it for email filtering, DLP and email encryption.
- Blocking specified file types as attachments
- Allowing users to release quarantined emails
- They are adding new features at a decent pace
- Portal encryption. Outside users are not able to reply to everyone on the email chain. They can only reply to the person who sent the email.
- You cannot control which mailboxes are licensed.
- Email filtering. A lot of spam emails and spoofed emails tend to get through. This has gotten better recently with a slider that allows you to specify how aggressive the system is.

Sophos Email Gateway - Nightmare Experience

Sophos Central is currently deployed for endpoint protection, phishing training, and as an email gateway solution for filtering inbound and outbound emails. This product pre-dates my time with our current company but the experience and product performance has been very poor.
- Nothing
- Rules processing does not perform impersonation filtering properly. For example, if the email gets classified as spam the impersonation rule is not processed against it. This means your users will release these quarantined emails to their inboxes. Impersonation rules should be a top-level rule.
- The product boasts it has AI and advanced processing but regularly lets credential harvesting emails through constantly. URL filtering does not block them and when they are reported it takes up to an hour to block the malicious URL in the filtering. This is too slow since users typically are clicking on these links in emails within minutes
- Support is nonchalant with no sense of urgency. They don't follow simple requests for contact hours and will reach out to you hours after your day has ended. Support engineers agree with you that the product fails to meet standards and think this is an ok thing.
- Emails will get rejected by unknown filters and require research to be done against logs by Sophos support. This is absurd, if an email is blocked it should not require a support ticket for investigating
- The processing of rules is inconsistent. The same email from the same email address and same IP address is classified as SPAM for some and allowed for others

An easy to manage and implement tool that is also in the cloud and this gives it omnipresence.
We have Sophos Email protecting the entire company. This product helps us to filter malicious emails and create very specific rules. Also, the integrated DLP has allowed us to have compliance with regulations such as PCI-DSS. The cloud console allows great flexibility when managing and making agile changes that the business requires.
- The integration of the mail with the Data Leak Prevention module is really easy, convenient and timely.
- The fact of combining typical forms of protection, such as blacklists, sender's reputation with advanced machine learning capabilities, with static content analysis and execution of attached files, allows us to trust the product more and more.
- The cloud console allows you to have all the email information at the reach of a cell phone or tablet, allowing administration in a simple way and from anywhere.
- Sometimes the spam email is suddenly eliminated, without going to a quarantine, this prevents an administrator from reviewing and being the one who has the last word on the good or bad of the email.

Sophos Email is a must for all businesses
Sophos Email is being used by the whole organization. It helps the organization to protect HIPPA and other PII information inside the email by encrypting that email even if it was not encrypted originally. It notifies users which emails were quarantined and delivers those emails to their mailbox with a simple click. Sophos Email does a great job at blocking emails with phishing and malware content.

- Reporting could be more granular, it's the most glaring weakness of the product.
- The ability to drill down into data from the dashboard would be very helpful for reporting as well.
- Reverse AD sync so when active directory users are removed, they are removed from Sophos as well would be helpful.

One console to manage all
Sophos Secure Email Gateways, helped us to address encryption issues as well preventing phishing, scams, and malware. Adoption, setup, and use are very intuitive. The dashboard is easy to navigate. Also it helped the IT department to consolidate all the email policies in one console--we have better visibility of what is going on and the areas that we need to focus on. One of the features that we liked was VIP users, which helps to protect those important mailboxes from spoofing.

As a company that provides software to hospitals and other medical facilities, security is extremely important to us. We use the Sophos Secure Email Gateways to filter all mail going to and from our organization. It is used to reduce spam, phishing attacks, and other annoying or malicious behavior in our organization. We use this across our entire organization in conjunction with Google G Suite software, including Gmail.

Sophos -- email security for the modern age
Sophos is one of the many vendors we utilize and offer to clients for Antispam/Outbound Encryption, and other email services. The Secure Email Gateway provides mail services both inbound and outbound, including scanning and filtering/quarantining in both directions. The service also provides an attachment scoring and testing feature to test against threats before delivering potentially bad email to end users.

- The attachment scanning and sandboxing of files to test danger level.
- Other vendors services are a bit more streamlined for end users and their quarantine digests.

Implementing Sophos Email Security is great
The Sophos Secure Email Gateways is being used across the bank to address the email encryption purposes as well as for anti-spam and phishing; together with those we also employ the e-mail sandboxing feature. The product is also being customized to provide a workflow of sending certain encrypted emails.
- We could customize it to have a certain level of workflow. We manage to enforce certain email (based on key-phrases) to be quarantined before send it to the recipient. And the email needs to be approved (manually) before being released.
- For certain type (using regex) of email, we will encrypt it if it's sent outside our organization domain.
- Scalable
- Out of the box workflow approval of emails before being sent to recipients is a plus
- Using regex needs a certain expertise
- In regards to DLP, why not add context based and content based

Sophos Secure Email Review at a glance
Sophos Secure Email Gateway is protecting us and our customers, against huge threats like Ransomware (with effective rate) that travel mainly via email attachments. Its deployment is easy and its configuration is even easier. Let's keep in mind that the main protection against common threats is email protection. With Sophos Virus Definitions, the protection is higher than expected.
