Splunk RUM helps in identifying the pattern and behaviour of the end-user when he is interacting with your application. It helps in identifying what services are most frequently and least browsed by end-user. Also, it helps in identifying bottlenecks in case services are slow or end-user interaction is taking too much time capturing their response time, and errors (if any).
  • Identifying brute attacks.
  • Helps in identifying end user behaviour.
  • Capturing pages which have slow response time.
  • No live stream of data.
  • Splunk is entirely dependent on logs which means no logs then you can't perform a Splunk query.
  • Splunk RUM needs to be a bit simplified in terms of user interaction.
Splunk RUM was really helpful in identifying brute force attacks as we used Splunk query language and were able to identify how many failed login attempts were made from which country and blacklisted those IP's. Since Splunk entirely depends on Splunk query language, if there are no logs or you delete the logs you can't perform analysis, as there is no stream of live data and also it depends on how frequently your data can be indexed.

We use it to understand and troubleshoot problems in user-facing web apps, configured to have complete visibility from end to end into any request made by a browser. In real-time, we can quickly monitor and identify the root causes, performance bottlenecks and measurements across all browsers in our production environments.
  • Performance metrices.
  • Dynamic and agile.
  • Improved compliance & risk management.
  • Database monitoring.
  • Bottlenecks metrices often misguided by AI.
  • Delayed uptime in the system (system outage/downtime).
  • Simplify the data metric reporting.
Very robust and great tool for the analysis of logging activity, threat intelligence and auditing trails. It allows for collecting, aggregating and prioritizing various systems to locate vulnerabilities to help with the improvement of security operations. It has built-in Incident Response and Breach Notification, and network and vendor security features and plenty of dashboards and alerts that are customizable to your business needs.

We use Splunk Real User Monitoring in our company to monitor user activity in our customer experience app, so as to easily find and fix any issues, problem or bug that may be hindering our customers from accessing our app services, with end to end visibility Splunk RUM allows us to see the origin of any problem in our app thus allowing us to quickly and accurately fix the problem.
  • End-to-end visibility enables me to see each transaction from start to finish thereby making it easy to know where exactly an anomaly is coming from.
  • They have a really kind and helpful customer support.
  • Application monitoring.
  • End user performance metrics.
  • I think that integration with other apps needs to be improved because it's not very smooth currently.
  • Splunk RUM as with other Splunk Products has a very high price tag, I hope they provide more affordable options.
  • Analytics reports are sometimes hard to understand, maybe the creators should work on how to make the reports easily understandable and implementable.
Splunk RUM even with the integration problems works very well to provide end-user metrics that allow us to identify any problem our customers may be facing with our app, and it has helped us reduce downtime and customer frustration which leads to increased Productivity, for this reason, I recommend this to anyone that's looking for a user monitoring solution for their application.

It gives us End-to-End visibility of what is happening inside the application thus helping to locate the issue faster in times of need. The tool helps us to take proactive measures to improve the customer-facing application with the help of the user activity report and its various feature.
  • Correlation of issue for Complex application.

  • Error handling and performing automated workflow based on the known error.
  • The setting baseline for AI-driven troubleshooting requires more documentation to implement.
  • Room for integration with open sourced or inhouse monitoring tools.
  • Required more flexibility on setting up mobile OS performance metrics.
RUM is best suited to monitor the application where performance is the key indicator. It is useful when it comes to getting real-time updates on what the customer is facing while using a web-based application. Also, figure out the issue and capture it in a report to showcase and work on. We are still exploring the features of how Splunk RUM can be leveraged so that the mobile experience can also be stored and related to web applications.

RUM has been key in monitoring and resolving any issues with users on front end or backend issues. Works great with our websites and mobile applications and the data we receive has really cut down on our troubleshooting time and down time. Seeing end user perfomance metrics have really helped us in development.
  • website metrics
  • mobile
  • cost
  • integration with other tools
Was easy to setup with our existing splunk install and has great dashboards already built by default that cover most of the metrics we wanted to see. Once it is all configured there isn't much maintenance that's needs to be done and our frontline uses the dashboard to detect any issues.
