I am a programmer, I am involved in the development of an e-commerce site using Spryker.
Spryker is used as a sales website, as well as a product management page, and a delivery system. These are the main problems of an e-commerce site
Spryker is used by almost every department in the company.
  • Good scalability
  • Provide a complete solution for e-commerce site
  • Easy to customize and upgrade
  • Not suitable for small sites
Suitable for large websites need a scalable system, a comprehensive solution in many aspects. Have an experienced development team, develop the project for a long time. There is a server system strong enough to meet the operation of Spryker.
Not recommended for small sites, weak infrastructure, few users. Not good for small companies.

We implement solutions for customers based on individual requirements. Our customers facing different B2B problems which can be solved in different ways; we combine all required components individually.
  • Separate frontend and backend tasks (jobs).
  • Technical system abstraction (container components).
  • Technology separation between frontend and other backend components.
  • Update and maintenance over the customer product lifecycle.
  • Internal API improvements.
It depends on the customer requirements which product (not Spryker) maybe is a better solution for a start of a project. Important here is also the project setup on the client-side (project team, budget, etc.).

We use Spryker for our new business developments that are created within the digital transformation initiatives. We wanted a platform that is modern and scalable to support not only present requirements but especially the future development. Our expectation is to deliver now what is state-of-the-art today, but also not being limited by technology in the future.
  • Modern and flexible e-commerce framework.
  • Customer oriented service.
  • Deep understanding of the market.
  • Interesting partner and customer network.
  • Initial investment is high.
  • Complexity of the framework requires deep knowledge and expert skills.
  • Management of complexity can lead to higher time to market.
I would not recommend Spryker for all types of small-scale, standard e-commerce cases (typically B2C). I would recommend Spryker for all types of ambitious e-commerce scenarios (especially B2B or any non-standard cases). It must be clear that you do get a framework. It comes with many capabilities, but it's not a system that is ready to run.

We are using Spryker to develop an e-commerce website; we are working to migrate an in-house shop to a completely Spryker shop Since it is an e-commerce framework, it already has everything we need for an online shop that can run well: A frontend online shop for customers, using Elasticsearch for searching products and Redis for storage. A backend UI for a back-office employee can update products and other information.
  • Modular architecture: Very clear, scalable, and easy to maintain.
  • Elasticsearch for searching.
  • Clean code base, follow SOLID Principle.
  • Frontend with atomic Design, BEM methodology.
  • Support polyfill.
  • Documentation for implementing React is still sketchy.
  • Bridge is superfluous in my perspective.
Spryker is a huge platform with many build-in modules, provides solutions for almost every trouble you will get when building an online shop. It is really well suited in case your shop aims for having millions of users, cross country. However, if you just want to build a small simple shop with fewer features, you don't need to use Spryker.

  • Quick time to market
  • Low TCO
  • Best B2B-platform in market
  • Cloud
  • Improve merchant products marketplace suit

Spryker is used in our dedicated Spryker department/business-unit. The department uses Spryker to develop E-Commerce solutions for our customers in different fields ranging from both B2B and B2C cases.
  • Highly customizable
  • Demoshop for B2B and B2C help starting development
  • Modern technology stack
  • A lot of patterns that enable clean and readable code
  • High learning curve
  • Small community
Spryker is well suited for huge projects that require a solid infrastructure and scalability. Especially unique use-cases benefit from spryker's customizability and possibilities. Thanks to the well structured REST-API it's possible to develop non-traditional frontends that do not require a browser.

At NFQ Asia, we use Spryker to build e-commerce solutions for some clients. The Spryker Commerce OS solves different problems on both B2B and B2C shops. It establishes a standard of organising the codebase structure, designing our database, connecting to third-party applications, etc... Furthermore, Spryker Commerce OS is highly flexible, allowing us to customise the shop to the varying needs of our clients. There are also many pre-built packages that we can start using immediately with a minimum effort for configuration.
  • Well structured codebase architecture.
  • Flexible to extend.
  • A good built-in solution for search.
  • The state machine for business processes.
  • The default implementation is already scalable.
  • Support multi stores.
  • The documentation and developer bootcamp is sometimes out-of-date.
  • Open code, not open source, all bugs need to be submitted to an internal system without accepting patches from communities.
  • Steep learning curve.
  • The bridges at the core level sometimes cause difficulties in project-level implementation.
It is well suited for medium to large shops that need to connect to different external systems (PIM, CMS, CRM, OMS, etc...). The Spryker architecture makes it plays nicely with varying models of deployment. However, both software engineers and DevOps engineers have a steep learning curve to develop the Spryker shop correctly. This solution may not be the answer for small businesses that want a lightweight e-commerce solution.

At TOWA we are using the Spryker Cloud Commerce OS for more complex and bigger scale e-commerce enterprise projects. Currently, it's our standard framework for that kind of software project to help our clients to go into the digital market. The projects normally involve the integration of 3rd party services like PIM, ERP or other systems. We do have 2 dedicated teams to work with Spryker Cloud Commerce OS at the moment and we are growing.
  • Best Practices integrated into the framework like SOLID Principles, Enterprise Architecture Design Pattern, etc
  • Clear structure of the system components (zed, yves, glue, middleware, ...)
  • Migration Guidelines for the available modules
  • Number of modules
  • Documentation which is getting better
  • Current Documentation
  • Developer Bootcamp
  • Eco-System for finding already existing custom modules
For enterprise level software projects Spryker Cloud Commerce OS seems to be a good fit. It's recommended to check the requirements and limits of Spryker dough. Until now we do have good experience in solving our client problems and developing them with Spryker.

Currently it seems that a highly-data oriented e-commerce project scratches the limits of Spryker Cloud Commerce OS. In those scenarios we would recommend checking the exact requirements.

We use Spryker Cloud Commerce OS to build scalable industry platforms for our clients in B2B and B2C. Especially for projects which require a high degree of customization and individual business processes while fast-time-to-market we recommend Spryker too. Due to its modularity, Spryker allows flexibility and is easily adaptable to individual use cases.
  • Spryker helps to achieve fast time to market.
  • Mapping of complex business processes is feasible with the state machine.
  • Highly customizable and scalable, especially relevant for industry platforms and marketplaces.
  • Steep learning curve, experienced developer team needed.
  • CMS functionality could be improved.
Spryker is well suited for projects, which require specific processes like platforms and marketplaces with the goal to scale. Less appropriate for building standard shops, where no customization is needed.

It's used to cover business ecommerce requirements of our customers. An additional use case is to add new custom customer features that might be missing in Spryker OS or adjust existing features to customer needs i.e. write an importer module to import them frequently to Spryker product-reviews feature. The main use case currently is to connect external systems with Spryker and provide them in a functional way to a user interface.
  • Very good code quality
  • Heavily usage of PHP feature scope
  • Always looking for new initiatives and to support latest platform versions
  • Good Support Desk - Very experienced contacts and professional tech experts
  • Good focus on technical solvings compared to provide marketing focused solutions
  • Part Confusion in Layer structure i.e. GLUE has less features than YVES and ZED is also a frontend but as well a backend API. Frontends could be leaved as frontends and backend frontends are seperate frontends
  • Lack of back-office / admin API i.e. to import customers, products via API
  • The company going in the direction to bind customers more and more with SaaS, PaaS, FaaS solutions - but leave no option for on-premise
  • No example integrations that clarify third partner modules provided in Spryker eco-namespace. This leaves a lot of space for issues and unexpected behaviors (additional work that needs to be done). Would be much better if a third-party integration is covered with a demo integration that can be booted to have more comprehensible estimations for the customer. Currently only ~3 demo applications with mock data. It's not a real-world scenario.
It forces you to build code in a maintainable and structured way. One of the key features is that it has less magic and easy-to-follow code. They started to provide a docker setup that works on all OS by abstracting their platform issues. When you start a project, there is always the possibility the customer informs itself about a specific feature i.e. Akeneo integration support or factfinder integration out of the box - but the real world always shows it's not working that way in Spryker. The integrations always have to be adjusted on the project level and are not matching all of the Spryker features they provide - this is a big issue at the moment. The good part is, the existing boilerplate applications with mocked data are very good covered with solved development issues i.e. test execution (e2e, integration, unit), development toolsets, and good example workflow pipeline (phpstan, phpcs, phpmd...), working project level and well-tested feature integrations, automated dependency updates and support for different version combinations like php7.4 + MySQL, php8+psql, etc.

We implement it as a shop solution for our customers, B2C, B2B, or both. Especially, we are customizing it to our customer's needs and connect it to existing services like ERP, AssetManagement, Marketing- or Payment-Solutions (and much more) of our customers. Also, we support our customers in implementing it by supporting their teams.
  • Scaling
  • Modularization
  • Customizing
  • Connectivity
  • A lot of boilerplate code.
  • Hard to learn.
  • In most cases, not suitable for (very) small shops.
It is well suited for all enterprise-shops, especially with other connected services. You should not use it in a scenario where you need a complete out-of-the-box solution for a small (few products, no variants, no stores, no translations) shop. Also, you can not install it on a typical webspace, you need a server for it.

We use Spryker Cloud Commerce OS as a tool for building our clients' e-shop solutions. I supervise engineering teams, 30+ engineers in total working on Spryker. Spryker Cloud Commerce OS itself, helps us in dealing with complex business logic requirements and enables effective scalability for our clients.

First of all, it reduces ambiguities that may occur when the same problem is being solved by multiple engineers. Spryker-imposed code standards help us in keeping our overall project quality high.

Secondly, it helps to achieve faster time to market delivery of our projects. The system itself, allows to parallelize work between engineers efficiently and it takes only a few months to launch even the most complex projects.
  • Fast time to market
  • Well maintainable code
  • Reduce of the need to have inhouse engineers
  • Spryker Cloud Commerce OS requires a lot of boiler plate code. It may be repetitive or overly formal.
Spryker Could Commerce OS is very well suited for companies which plans to have a high load/availability systems with large volume of orders or plans to implement an omni-channel business model. To sum up: the more complex your business model is - the more value you van extract from Spryker Commerce OS.

Less appropriate would be to use Spryker for smaller, more standard retail business models.

We want to actively shape the changes in B2B SHK and are setting a big exclamation mark in the market with the shop. Spryker [Cloud Commerce OS] is the right partner to position COLONS.de in the digital market.

As a closed shop, we need specific B2B features that allow larger customers to keep an overview of their purchasing processes.
  • The B2B functionalities are very mature
  • High-performance system that can cope with a large number of SKUs
  • Scalable
  • Simple connection of existing API´s
  • Maintenance
  • Few developers with a lot of experience in the market
  • The CMS functionalities could be significantly more innovative
[Spryker Cloud Commerce OS is well suited for]:
  • Microservices
  • Interfaces
  • the separation from the front / back end offers a high degree of flexibility for further distribution channels
[Skryker Cloud Commerce is not well suited for]:
  • The creation of innovative pages is very difficult to implement with the Spryker CMS. It is advisable to integrate a third-party provider here

With the help of Spryker, we are currently re-launching our existing B2B online stores. The particular challenge here is to be able to map the growing number of multinational stores in a complex environment from many dependent software systems holistically in one platform. Spryker helps us with its B2B-specific functionalities and modern software architecture to meet the fast changing requirements of our customers.
  • Extensive business-to-business commerce features.
  • Modern software architecture with different extensions to pick from.
  • Good integration into existing system landscape.
  • The CMS functionalities and banner management still have room for improvement.
  • Especially interesting for all companies that rely on a broader number of software systems (ERP, PIM, CRM, Pricing,...)
  • You have to be aware that Spryker is still quite young compared to established and well-known other software vendors (which can be positive as well as negative depending on your own expectations)

It is being used in many projects. Mainly for eShop creation, customer satisfaction portal creation, etc.
It resolved problems like painful code review and difficult architecture decisions. Spryker’s modular software structure and the separation of backend and frontend interfaces (smartphone, desktop, voice, IoT applications) stand behind these capabilities, ensuring the highest possible performance and enabling agile project execution. For companies with digitization projects, Spryker replaces the standard solutions of software companies to drive IT innovations faster and more efficiently.
  • Strong architecture enforcement.
  • High frontend speed.
  • Less painful code reviews.
  • Steep learning curve.
  • Heavy vagrant-based setup, docker/SDK solution enabled smoother local environment setup.
  • Missing CMS implementation out of the box to choose for the project.

We needed a platform that would enable us to digitize our brands internationally.
The SLV Group bundles a wide variety of brands, customer groups, products and business models. Therefore, we were looking for a flexible, scalable, future-proof provider and found it with Spryker.
We use Spryker as a central commerce system and as an API layer for the distribution of sales-relevant data.
From a commerce perspective, we were able to greatly expand the relevant share of digital orders based on Spryker B2B software.
  • Open architecture.
  • Flexibility for the different business cases.
  • Scalability.
  • Complexity as a multistore variant.
  • Importing large amounts of data.
The Spryker Ecosystem supports us in our highly variable, fast approach to international markets with the most diverse business models. With the technical layer of connectivity, we are able to respond to market requirements particularly quickly.

Spryker is used by our multinational online shopping platform, which has a steadily growing range of several million products. Our largest customer is an international shopping community that unites 15 million shoppers and 150,000 merchants in over 50 countries. It was therefore clear to us that we needed the best software solution available on the market in order to run our e-commerce system. That's why we decided to switch to Spyker.
  • The modularization provides the flexibility we need.
  • High scalability.
  • The support team is very friendly and helpful.
  • The learning curve is quite steep.
  • Probably not the best solutions for small businesses.
Spryker is certainly a very good choice for huge e-commerce businesses that deal or intend to deal with thousands of merchants and millions of customers and products. However, for small businesses with inexperienced software developers, Spyker Cloud Commerce OS is probably way too complex.

Well suited: If a customer has special requirements and wants to customize nearly everything, Spryker Cloud Commerce OS is the way to go. Spryker Cloud Commerce OS offers a lot of functionality out of the box--these features can be easily extended and modified for the customers needs--without a big hassle. Having a well tested and structured feature-set in place that can be easily customized is simple awesome--for the customers and also for the developers.

Less appropriate: If there is a small business with only a handful products that doesn't have the intention to grow and add a lot of customizations are also not necessary, maybe Spryker Cloud Commerce OS is a bit to much (also because it has license costs and is not an open-source product).

Together with our clients we use Spryker to solve the eCommerce problems of today and tomorrow. As an agency we don't use Spryker ourselves to sell our products but we conceptualize, implement and customize Spryker according to our clients needs. Spryker's modern architecture and massive out of the box functionality (which is highly customizable) enables us to provide the transactional platforms our clients are demanding. With Spryker we can solve the most common eCommerce business problems of today: Scalability, Flexibility and Customizability. With Spryker OS Commerce you aren't limited in any of those areas.
  • Data Importers - Spryker is able to cope with large chunks of data ingest e.g. from PIM or ERP. Its integrated Middleware of handling this data.
  • Scaling - Modern architecture makes it possible to scale flexible.
  • Internationalization - Role our your shop with different assortments, pricing and products with out of the box features.
  • Pricing - Spryker supports custom pricing out of the box (volume prices, gross/net prices, customer specific pricing).
  • Order Management.
  • Marketplace (allow 3rd party distributors to sell via your platform).
  • Search (Out of the Box configuration for ElasticSearch could be improved to lead to "better" search results).
  • Hosting (usually Spryker is only available hosted via Spryker which is a bit difficult for companies which want to be more independent).
All B2B Enterprise eCommerce cases are well covered by Spryker. Usually these are shops which:
  • Have a lot of interfaces to 3rd party systems like ERP or PIM and exchange a lot of data.
  • Have huge amount of products and prices e.g. customer specific pricing and a lot of stores (international stores).
  • Have very special business process needs which can only be achieved via customization. For instance if you are a steel trading company which has a special business model.

Sprypker is less likely to play out its advantages for eCommerce cases which are:
  • Very standard end customer ecommerce scenarios e.g. for selling t-shirts to end customers.
  • All stores which do not need very customized functionality to fullfil their customers needs.
  • Shop which have a turnaround of less than $50 million.

  • Modular design ensures easy expandability and maintainability.
  • SOLID Principles ensure clean code and traceable coding workflow.
  • Update functionality is easy to follow. Individual modules can be changed/updated/removed individually.
  • Legacy code partially not adapted to today's Spryker state. Causes problems when extending.
Spryker already provides a huge stack of functionalities and a ready-to-use operating system. This means that you already have an operational system at the beginning of the project, which can then be adapted to customer requirements. In addition, a new frontend can be connected relatively easily via the GLUE API. In addition, the documentation allows new developers to get in touch working with Spryker relatively quickly.

Spryker is used by a large part of the organization. It is used to sell projects. It is deeply integrated with back-end systems such as SAP, ERP, and Salesforce. The advantages of Spryker are the numerous business capabilities that enable a quick start.
  • Separation between front-end and back-end
  • Headless approach and very flexible [when] used by front-end
  • Packaged business capabilities.
  • Ready integration with third-party systems.
  • Global footprint, especially in China.
  • Improvements by the PaaS model.
Spryker is very well suited for mapping digital business models with transactions and a high flexibility towards front-end and business model requirements. The reason is the Packaged Business Capabilities, which enable a flexible implementation.
