(26-50 of 72)Comparing SQL Dev to Toad and SQL Nav
- Ease of use.
- It's designed with human factors in mind.
- Continuous improvement.
- More color scheme options.
- Query development help.
- It could use more specific query errors than the generic Oracle codes.
A Must Have Tool for Oracle SQL Database Administrators!
- Flexible GUI. The UI updates of the latest version have made navigating through the various features of Oracle SQL Developer quite easy.
- Great Tools for Testing and Developing SQL Scripts. SQL scripting can be a hassle when working with large tables and such. Oracle SQL Developer makes it easy to preview how many rows and tables will be affected.
- Ability to Load Data from Different File Formats. Some of our data comes in the form of Excel spreadsheets, XML, and JSON. Oracle SQL Developer allows our database administrators to easily push the data from these formats into our database tables automatically.
- Inability to run multiple queries on the same database. You can only run one query on a given database.
- Analytical models created from complex tables isn't accurate, and needs work.
- Inability to view multiple tables of a database side-by-side. When trying to find correlations between tables, it would help to be able to see them at once on the same page.
SQL Developer is amazing!
- Run queries
- Export Data
- When displaying errors it locates the error on the exact line and position.
- I would like to drag and drop from and to any of the areas.
- I would like to have more capabilities to export.
- Have help info handy when I have a doubt with extensive help.
Easy-to-use tool
- User-friendly.
- Easy to install.
- Allows users to write PL/SQL.
- You can't run more than one query against the same database at one time. This is a capability for TOAD.
- Sometimes it doesn't allow you to use parallel threads in query execution and the error message isn't very descriptive or explain why.
- Editing your display preferences could be a little easier. I had to watch several YouTube videos before I was able to figure out where those settings are kept.
Oracle SQL Developer
- It's easy to navigate among the dashboard.
- It's easy to find errors when debugging.
- It's easy to run SQL scripts.
- To more easily go back to the dashboard that I had set up before.
- Finding tables and Views more easily.
- Finding certain columns and which tables or views have these.
- Easy to use.
- Beginner and power user-friendly.
- I wish that you could view multiple tables in the same database at the same time.
- I wish that you could easily open multiple databases at the same time in the same instance.
- I often misclick when opening a database, so it would be nice to either launch it faster or not immediately open (or at least have the option to enable a soft validation).
Oracle SQL Developer - Solid for Oracle Database Implementations.
- Seamless database management integration
- Process stack analysis
- Modeling and visualizations
- Setup can be challenging if your schemas aren't well formed or managed. Also, the ability to model/develop extensions for an existing database solution will depend on how robust the DBA provisioned roles and designed the respective schemas.
- Detailed analysis of models can be clunky for complex relational models.
Oracle SQL Developer Review
- Oracle SQL Developer is one glass pane to look for all connections across all databases.
- This can work across various environments and provides good value for money.
- This is developer oriented and maintains great connection pool to databases.
- Not easy to install - our IT and compliance policies made it hard to get this installed.
- If there are security policies across companies, it is not easy to work way out to get product installed. The product is good, but the way it is delivered is not the best.
- This product need better UI to search data across various panes.
- Easy to install.
- Good for debugging SQL scripts.
- Exporting to Excel.
No nonsense IDE. Why complicate your life.
- Presentation of objects contained in the database
- Autocomplete of SQL code
- Running multiple statements at the same time
- Importing and exporting data to the cloud from on-prem
- Code versioning
- Prettier and smoother UI graphics
Looking for a better way to Develop SQL
- It lets us create new objects easily and modify the DDL within the tool quite easily.
- I love the data review tab that shows the data quickly and helps us profile the data.
- Exporting data from one object to another is great.
- Import/export data to the cloud.
- Does not do a good job of auto-connecting to a previous connection and you have to go through a couple of clicks and refresh.
Analyst's Review of Oracle SQL Developer
- Easy to connect to a data source - Time to get started is fairly easy given the connection is straightforward.
- It's very barebones, there are so many greater options for querying that provide more dynamic interaction and autocompletion.
- Visually, it leaves much to be desired, sometimes it even clips the text on my widescreen monitor.
Simple SQL software that is easy to use
- Easy to use UI.
- Fairly quick software with right Java versions, etc.
- Formatting feature is good.
- Explain plan feature is great.
- Canceling queries (at least in older versions) didn't actually cancel queries; it still had to do the entire query then rollback.
- Out of sync versions of java make SQL Developer run terribly, I've had this happen on a virtual machine and I no longer use it there.
- Setting defaults for login/etc. With files isn't so simple even for newer versions.
SQL Developer is a decent, free tool
- Export SQL results to a spreadsheet. After a query is run, you are able to export the results to a spreadsheet
- Easily preview data columns on an Oracle table or view and the metadata on those columns.
- SQL Editor is color-coded so that you can tell easily what are keywords.
- You can set up SQL code templates to be able to use shortcut keys to format your SQL query easily in a readable format that you prefer.
- Memory sorting feature would be great, which SQL developer doesn't have. Basically, after you get results from your query the memory sort feature caches your results into memory and then you are able to sort your columns/filter data results without having to rerun your query.
- Easily be able to make your SQL editor screen zoomed in or zoomed out when showing your code in SQL developer with an easy hotkey rather than having to go into the SQL editor properties to change the font size.
- It would be nice to be able to view schemas, views, tables, and sequences easier. Maybe some kind of dropdown that could help navigate these options when there is a connection to the database.
Oracle SQL Developer -- A Very Useful Tool!
- SQL Developer aids in writing queries in several ways, such as syntax highlighting, code formatting, auto-complete suggestions, error displays, and much more.
- You can easily export your results into a variety of formats such as Excel, CSV, Insert statements, etc.
- The product allows you to store your database connections so you only need to select from a drop-down which database (or which user account) you want to use to execute a query or script.
- You can view all database objects under specific schemas or user accounts and drill down to the most granular details.
- There are a fair number of bugs that are identified in the product regularly, but Oracle generally releases updates several times per year to address issues and introduce new features.
- Although you can collapse certain sections of code, it is not always reliable and sometimes auto-expands.
- Some settings are not retained from session to session. For example, I like specific columns to be expanded in my results so I can see the entire value.
On the flip side, I would not recommend this tool for business users with no experience with SQL. SQL Developer is much more user-friendly and powerful than the old-school SQL*Plus, but you still need to have some basic understanding of how to work with databases.
SQL Developer is a must-have for Oracle
- Highlights syntax assisting in the proper development and completion of statements.
- Allows toggling of breakpoints for SQL debugging. By using these breakpoints, I can evaluate variable values real-time as the query executes.
- Highlights syntax errors and upon hover, displays proper syntax with a direct link to the appropriate documentation for the statement in question.
- It would be helpful if one could quickly and easily integrate another editor into this tool. Although the provided editor is quite useful, other 3rd-party editors are much more powerful.
- SQL Developer should be able to easily integrate with source control providers other than GIT and Subversion.
- The syntactical auto-completion should allow some keystroke to complete and suggested statement rather than requiring a mouse-click to accept the suggestion.
SQL Developer is less appropriate for end users querying database tables. The interface is designed more towards developers and less towards end users.
- One of the things that SQL Developer is really good at is helping us view and export database structures to see if it needs some design optimization. Sometimes, as a developer I need to check that out.
- SQL Developer also offers stability in the management of query executions.
- And, one of the main advatages of SQL Developer over other options is the easy way that let you have multiple connections open, and change between them.
- I think SQL Developer needs to improve its funcionallity to export data in multiple formats from queries. It will help us generate reports.
- I do not see SQL Developer as the best tool to perform data migratios, perhaps that is an opportunity of improvement.
A nice client tool
- Comparing with native SQLPLUS, or command line interface, SQL Developer provides a user-friendly interface to communicate with Oracle databases.
- As a DBA, I especially like the DBA tools which can manipulate AWR, configure Resource Manager, launch SQL Tuning Advisor, etc.
- Another function people use a lot is to export a table into csv format. SQL Developer makes it very easy.
- SQL Developer doesn't support MySQL database. We need to use MySQL Workbench. It would great if a single client tool woks for all DBs someday.
- The explain plan can be shown as a better diagram. For a long sophisticated plan, it is not very easy to read and to catch where the bottleneck is
- I don't find partition display in SQL Developers
SQL Developer for everyone and it's free
- Code snippets
- Debugger options
- Explain plans for executions
- User interface and experience should be improved.
- Detailed code analysis functions should be implemented.
SQL Developer, best Oracle tool for a developer
- It's free
- Very useful to organize different Oracle Databases or connections
- Easy to use, user friendly, and quite intuitive
- Not useful if you are not using Oracle Database
- Quite slow even when using Oracle Database, many other faster products like this out there
- No export feature, like a CSV or Excel format
My SQL Developer. Your indespensible database management tool
- It easily connects to Oracle DBS.
- The query optimization tools are easy to use.
- Getting details about existing objects using scripts. It's portability into different file system like Excel, text etc.
- It should be better at helping identify errors.
- It could be better at extricating data.
- Frequently requiring updates to JDK.
SQL Developer great database development tool
- Quickly set up database connections.
- Good data visualization.
- Good for more common DBA tasks.
- Runs on several operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac).
- Makes upgrades and patching easy.
- Creating complex reports.
- Improves on error details.
SQL Developer
- SQL Developer is nicely integrated and provides greater visibility into schemas as well as data.
- SQL Developer allows easy access to fields view and data view of multiple schemas
- Allows repository type of view that enables ease of browsing thru tables without extensive use of SQL.
- SQL Developer is already intuitive, but could be more user friendly by utilizing a UI based design.
- SQL Developer could use more of an IDE-type look and feel.
- Addition of more Database admin type functionalities.
Quality application with room for improvement
- It connects with Oracle dbs with ease.
- The query optimization tools are readily available and easy to use.
- Occasionally the application will freeze when it fails to properly connect to a database.
- It tends to be a very resources heavy and can freeze when running longer queries, with no way to stop the execution.
- There is no clean way to change the user's password within the UI.
- SQL developer is a popular tool and provided free. This means we could find a good analyst and data developer easily since many of them are already familiar with the tool. It is also good to educate our developers and analysts to follow up with new features of the tool.
- SQL developer runs upon Java. It is easy to install and set up to get started with the first SQL. My organization is in healthcare industry and we don't need "everything in one" tool. Comparing to Toad, SQL developer is light and use less memory, for us, it is a reasonable choice.
- SQL developer is more specialized in individual developer's use rather than collaborative database development. In our project, individual clinical analysts have their own data mart to run and analyze, which was better fit to do the project with SQL developer.
- We often used the functionality of exporting data to files, such as Excel cvs or text to be used as a secondary analysis. In case the file size is big it used to fail or even crash the application. And it ended up with failure of the whole export. I wish SQL developer provide a step by step export, or at least show estimate of exported file size in advance.
- There is little support of code quality management, maintenance, and assessment. Since our data analysts often works in silo environment we need a centralized code management to keep consistency of data, which SQL developer is not good at.
- Performance is good overall, there are tools for improvement to be used in a professional manner, especially to work for a large data set such as enterprise data warehouse.
