Study Island is a versatile software that offers various use cases, according to users and customers. Students have found it valuable as a supplement to their regular curriculum, allowing them to develop additional skills and enhance their study plans. This is particularly beneficial for online learners who may not receive comprehensive instruction in certain areas. The software offers individualized practice opportunities, enabling students to work at their own pace and level. It has proven effective in helping students retain knowledge and close learning gaps, making it a valuable tool for differentiated instruction.

Teachers also rely on Study Island to support classroom instruction and assess student mastery of skills independently. They appreciate the customizable assignments based on individual students' needs and areas of struggle. Additionally, the software provides tools for assessment, data collection, and homework tracking. Teachers can utilize Study Island's progress monitoring and data analysis features to guide their instruction, group students effectively, and predict performance on standardized assessments. The availability of downloadable materials and lesson plans specific to certain skills is another aspect valued by teachers.

While there have been concerns raised by some users about the scoring system and the need for a reset button, overall, Study Island has proven useful across various subjects and grade levels. It is widely adopted for students performing below grade level in math and English, with the diagnostic test helping identify areas of proficiency. Furthermore, the program has helped students become familiar with online testing formats while building their stamina and patience. The engaging games within Study Island add an extra layer of fun to core curriculum lessons taught in the classroom. Overall, Study Island offers a flexible and beneficial platform for both students and teachers alike.

Ease of Assigning Materials and Increase in Student Mastery: Several users have found Study Island to be easy to use when assigning materials to students. They appreciate the convenience it offers in covering materials that require more attention. Additionally, they have noticed an increase in overall student mastery as a result of using this feature.

They appreciate that the platform is well-organized and includes options for Common Core, US, and state standards. This wide selection of lessons coupled with an intuitive interface makes it easy for instructors to find relevant content.

Confusing User Interface: Many users have found Study Island's user interface to be confusing and difficult to navigate, making tasks challenging for them. They struggle with finding their way around the platform, which hinders their overall experience.

Limited Bank of Questions: Some reviewers express dissatisfaction with the limited number of questions available for each standard in Study Island. This limitation poses a problem for students who require additional practice as they find themselves running out of new questions quickly.

We used Study Island with the 8th graders in my classroom as a resource for extra Math and Language Arts practice. It was being used across the entire organization and addressed many problems that arose with the various learning styles and levels that were present in my group of over 100 students.
  • Meets student at their learning level (I could assign different levels to different groupings of my students to better reach them where they were at educationally)
  • Is easy to assign based on specific standards
  • Shows a great representation of strong and weak areas for students and group as a whole
  • Is very user friendly for both the teacher and the student
  • Student logins can at times be confusing and time consuming for teachers and students alike
  • Costs can be very expensive depending on class size
  • Support can take time to reach when problems arise
Over all, I was very impressed with my experience using Study Island. I think that it provides a great resource for teachers of larger groups of students. On the other hand, it may not be as worthwhile of an investment in a small group or individual student level.
All in all, kids love this program, and it provides teachers with an in-depth look at how a child is progressing or understanding the content/standard being covered in the Study Island activity. The colors are fun, the graphics are fun, and the questions are nicely organized and customizable.
  • Customizable tests and activities
  • State Standards are clear and easy to use in building assignments
  • Very kid-friendly and appealing to the younger audiences
  • Saves a lot of time for teachers!

  • It has put teachers on the same page since we are all using the same platform
  • It has improved student test scores and retention
  • It has given us a platform to create and give student assessments in a fun way outside the typical classroom setting
I have used a couple of different study and learning tools, and Study Island is my favorite! Some of the things that make Study Island stand out are their easy to create assignments, easy to navigate activities (for students), and easy to grade/assess students. The platform is so colorful and fun for students and keeps them engaged!

Study Island is used within the intermediate grades, students in grades 3-6, within our district. As a former 5th grade teacher, this program allows students to work and review skills independently while teachers can monitor progress, data, and guide their practice with assigned content. The games draw students in quickly.
  • Fun user-friendly format.
  • Engaging games for students.
  • Easy to navigate for all teachers, regardless of their familiarity with computers.
  • Cost per student can be a deal-breaker for teachers who cannot afford a subscription.
  • Paid features are necessary to get the full value of the site.
  • Student logins can be cumbersome for younger students to remember.
In my time using and assisting in the use of Study Island, I have seen teachers between K-5 grade use this program. Students in younger grades may find this program challenging to use independently, causing teachers to assist rather than use that time to work with another student simultaneously. Intermediate grade students can become bored with some of the games and lose interest. This program seems best suited from 1st to 4th grades.

This program is used by the elementary school that my children attend. It is used as a supplemental program to the core curriculum. It complements and enhances the lessons being taught in the classroom. The teachers seem to correlate the lessons with what they are currently teaching in the classroom.
  • It encourages active learning.
  • It makes students want to learn.
  • It reinforces lessons from the classroom.
  • The program would be great with seasonal games.
Study Island is a great alternative learning tool. It is well suited for students that are resistant to listening to lessons. It is appropriate for younger students, mainly at the elementary levels. There are other options for older students that would work better for their maturity levels.

We use it as an intervention tool in most classes. Some teachers use it as the basis of their teaching. The whole school uses it in various subjects. It is not user-friendly for the kids. The drag and drops are too difficult. It does align with the standards, however, the questions are too difficult.
  • Aligns with the new Oklahoma standards.
  • Data is easily found and readable.
  • Games are fun for the kids.
  • Questions are too difficult.
  • Drag and drops are too in-depth.
  • Needs a lesson every standard that summarizes everything in that standard within a 25 question summative test.
Great for interventions where the student teacher ratio is lower. But for the majority of students, they can't just get on an iPad and do the standard without constant help because the directions are vague or none at all. The drag and drops are what I have the biggest issue on. They are too in-depth.
  • Years past we did great with it and saw significant gains.
  • Kids get easily frustrated with the new changes in the program.
  • Kids do like the games.
I didn't choose Study Island over Renaissance Accelerated Math. Study Island doesn't offer the in-depth review of standards over and over like Renaissance Accelerated Math does. Plus, Renaissance Accelerated Math also makes them wait 2 weeks then re-introduces the standards they have mastered to make sure they still have that mastery, and if they don't, it makes them re-do that standard.
