I used [SurveyMonkey] to set up a survey for limited use in a non-profit organization and was surprised when the survey responses topped more than 40 that I could not access the results. This was not made clear when I was setting up the survey. I had used SurveyMonkey in the past with my organization, however it had switched over to another platform. I formerly trusted SurveyMonkey.
  • Easy to set up survey questions
Cons
  • More and more features are moving to paid functionality
If you are going to use extremely frequently [SurveyMonkey] may be worth it; but if you are a smaller user, beware of their marketing practices and negative optioning.

Huge fan of SurveyMonkey!

We use SurveyMonkey to assess and gather data on various employee-related or department-specific functions. For example, we recently used SurveyMonkey to send out a survey to all employees regarding a summer hours program (i.e. interest, feasibility, comments or recommendations for the program moving forward). We will also use SurveyMonkey again to assess how the program was received and whether or not it is worth continuing in future.
  • Easy to set up and very user-friendly
  • Good amalgamation of data and results.
Cons
  • Setting up a survey from scratch is not as intuitive as I would have hoped. Although once you understand how to use the product, it is quite easy. Just navigating the first few times is a bit challenging.
I think for data-collection from multiple users - provided the surveys aren't that long - SurveyMonkey is a great product.

Good product with room to improve

We used SurveyMonkey to collect responses for onsite training meetings and online webinars. We also used SurveyMonkey as an online testing tool to offer quiz and pre-, post- and in class tests.
  • Easy to set surveys. I could give some of my users a brief training and let them design and set up surveys by themselves
  • The abilities to set up mailing list so surveys can be delivered to large number of participants easily
  • The ability to download survey data. I often downloaded survey data and ported it into my own database to feed corporate performance dashbaoard
Cons
  • The reporting functions offered online are limited. I often needed to download and process survey data myself in order to get certain reports
  • Data integration: data download option was removed for a while. I don't know if it is restored now.

Currently, I have been using SurveyMonkey for some of my online personal training clients that I don't get too much 1-on-1 interaction with. This helps me understand my clients' needs and make sure I am providing them the best quality training. This also helps my business grow and provides me with constructive feedback based on each specifically tailored survey.
  • It's simple to use.
  • Instantaneous setup/usage.
  • The design/user interface is ergonomic and clean.
Cons
  • The basic plan is quite limited.
  • Automation can be difficult.
  • Setting up surveys may take some time.
For many service-based businesses, SurveyMonkey performs extremely well and can be highly compatible. It can also be used for products as well, to give proper insight and perspective on the customer's experience with said product or software. SurveyMonkey may not be the best in wholesale businesses or larger-based businesses. I believe every company's post-QA team should be the customer or client.

SurveyMonkey is used by many departments and often, departments come to my team for our expertise in survey design. Survey data is used to make business decisions based on ratings and feedback expressed by a relevant audience. The tool also allows us to establish scores that we trend over time to monitor progress of various business solutions or initiatives (e.g., satisfaction, utility, efficiency and effectiveness of training, services, tools, and/or processes).
  • SM provides the ability to customize surveys visually and analytically. Visual design elements include html coding, them customization and saving, text alteration, image uploading/internal branding. Analytically, SM offers numerous types of questions that can be used in designing the survey to fit your analysis needs. For example, if I want scores, I use the rating scale option. If I am interested in demographic information such as "career level", I choose drop down or multiple choice to obtain the output in percentages. There is also question logic and page logic, custom disqualification pages.
  • What's more? Customize settings such as anonymous/not anonymous, allow multiple responses per computer/one response per computer, set up multiple collector links per survey, customize thank you pages, publish/not publish results, filter responses, cross reference data, customize charts in the SM tool, download per question, and much more.
  • SurveyMonkey offers multiple download formats once you have survey results (e.g., PDF, Excel, and now PPT). The summary downloads are fairly clean and easy to understand. Many customers are very happy with raw data summaries requiring very little manipulation. At the same time, I can enhance raw downloads by setting up my own templates to transfer results and analyze them further. Additionally, there is an option to download response per participant using text or numerical coding (this is handy if need deep analysis and SM is compatible with SPSS).
  • SurveyMonkey is always improving their tool. I have given feedback at various points in time and soon enough, the enhancements I request become a reality (probably because many other users are also asking for the same thing). For example, a while ago I requested to be able to download one individuals' survey responses in PDF and now they have that option. This tool is also affordable and user friendly.
Cons
  • I would like to be able to save questions that I create into a "bank" that can easily be added to any new survey that I design.
  • The first suggestion is a precursor to my next suggestion, which is to be able to select one question from my bank and analyze the results for that question across all of the surveys that it is placed in (meta analyze)
  • Allow sharing of survey responses by collector only.
SurveyMonkey requires knowledgeable administrators to test and safeguard the delivery of surveys and analysis of results for highest quality and utilization. Study methods and statistics are not provided in this tool; an analyst has to know the ins and outs of sampling, delivery, and results interpretation to draw the most meaning from the results.
