  • Depending on your network size, you may need a dedicated person to manage this product. SEP has many features and it takes time to learn them all and be able to implement on the network.
  • The combination of features, and with the right configuration, you can block viruses, malware, and ransomware from damaging your network.

  • Symantec is not overly expensive so it is an immediate ROI just based on the times it has flagged and stopped infections on user computers.
  • On the negative side, the amount of times I have to uninstall and then reinstall it, to troubleshoot issues with other programs, does cost a bit of time and can be a hassle.
  • Having its built-in Management console has allowed us to roll out and manage Symantec with less IT support than some other products would have called for.

  • To date we have never been hit with a widespread Ransomware attack
  • To our knowledge we have never experienced a data leak
  • We have had little to no business interruptions due to a security attack. Down time for us means lower sales.

  • Symantec Endpoint Protection provides us with a steady recurring revenue stream.
  • SEP provides us with a fairly easy reselling experience, because it is not overly expensive yet it is an extremely effective product.
  • SEP allows us to spend less time analyzing and administering anti-virus issues, which translate into very few man-hours wasted.

  • It has forced us to deploy secondary software to handle malware threats, as far too many of them slip by SEP unnoticed. We'd prefer not to have such an approach, but with SEP we aren't fully protected without such additional software.
  • The CPU footprint vs other similar products wastes extra CPU cycles on scanning, causing us to need larger ESX hosts for a given number of VM's, due to the overhead from the SEP client.
  • On more than one occasion, a bad update has caused significant business impact, causing us to heavily consider a different product when our next renewal period is up.

  • Being able to manage the clients from a single SEP Manager reduces the amount of time needed to manage the environments.
  • It has kept us protected against viruses and malicious activity, and when something did slip through, we were able to use the SYMHELP tool to scan the machine and submit the data/logs to Symantec to protect against it in the future.

  • SEP has had a very nice ROI in the form of keeping our network safe and clients' machines clean and free from spyware and viruses.
  • The negative downside is that reinstalling the client isn't always an easy method. A lot of times we just have the user reimage their whole machine, which is usually the last resort.
  • Another positive aspect of SEP is that it allows us to identify any problematic machines which might be allowing any malware, spyware or viruses in through any network ports or connections.
We use Symantec Endpoint Environment in a manufacturing and conventional office setting. This is a very large scale operational of over 10,000 users.

  • Virus equals downtime. Downtime equals loss of revenue. We've only had 3 desktop viruses in 10 years and none on my servers. That's a record I'm very happy with and part of that is due to Symantec Endpoint Protection and part due to the fact that we do NOT allow any user to be a local admin.
  • We have only had to 'disable' Symantec during the installation of one application for our end users. It doesn't interfere with installations, which saves us time during imaging, deployment and upgrades. We frequently see implementation documentation that states you will likely need to disable your firewall for the installs, but we don't have those issues with Symantec. It does a great job of knowing what's appropriate to install and what isn't.
