Data Analytics with Tableau
Tableau Server is extremely well suited for a company with a few dedicated analysts creating dashboards and reports for a few stakeholders. It is also great at handling a large number of report viewers, but it is more expensive because you have to pay for each user. We have just created a single visualization containing multiple what-if scenarios that our users can easily update on the fly using Tableau’s new set of controls.

Tableau Server is a world class product
Tableau Server is a world-class product offering ease of integration with a database or third-party service platforms such as SalesForce, Intercom, or Hubspot. Data visualisation and chart capability is excellent. Tableau really helps an organisation connect with its data to improve business decision-making. Competitor products do not scale as well as Tableau.

Tableau to the rescue
Tableau server has among the best visualization compared to other similar products. It is in some cases much easier to use when the data is nicely arranged in the required format. It also has a good drill down capability which helps us expand and look for variances and other information.

Tableau - Good Viz, Poor Admin
Today, if my shop is largely Microsoft-centric, I would be hard pressed to choose a product other than Power BI. Tableau was the visualization leader for years, but Microsoft has caught up with them in many areas, and surpassed them in some. Its ability to source, transform, and model data is superior to Tableau. Tableau still has the lead in some visualizations, but Power BI's rise is evidenced by its ever-increasing position in the leadership section of the Gartner Magic Quadrant.

Failed to meet expectations
We selected Tableau Server over other options because of the published feature set and capabilities. It appeared to be far more advanced than its competition. However, it failed to meet expectations. Moving forward we are going to give a more serious look at Google Data Studio since we are standardized on G Suite across our institution.

Tableau server is a good choice for a healthcare system willing to strengthen analytics
- IBM Cognos and D3.js
We used and still are using IBM Cognos for business intelligence purposes. It is good for use as a data infrastructure and analytic framework, rather than a BI toolkit, but Tableau is replacing Cognos fast. We used D3.js for a few proofs of concept visualization and dashboarding, but those efforts stopped because of productivity and maintenance problems.

A very cool tool for Data Visualization
Compared to our previous version of software and tool that had been used since the beginning of the company, Tableau is reliable, fast and accurate. Some important features for advanced analytics and data visualization are not available with the previous system. Therefore it was the right decision to replace them with Tableau. Most of the business users are happy because they are more productive now.

A BI tool that's unlike most others out there
The choice to use Tableau Server is really made for you if you already have adopted Tableau Desktop. If you're focused on an on-premise solution, Tableau is probably the way that you'll have to go. Looker and Mode are cloud-based (so is Tableau Online) and offer a true SaaS-based approach. Mode is decidedly more developer-centric from my perspective; if your users are not SQL experts the learning curve is pretty high. Looker offers a very compelling data modeling layer and is geared more towards open-ended data exploration. Tableau can take pre-processed, structured data (like a CSV) and make it look amazing. You'll really need to consider your own specific needs to evaluate what's best for you based upon what your users need to do.

Show your data with pride!
We find Tableau Server much more flexible and powerful for the developer. The resulting dashboard and interactive charts far surpass those of Business Objects. IBM Cognos is much too restrictive in its ability to present data visualizations in a way that is easily integrated into both web platforms and mobile applications.

My Tableau Server "Spiell"
There were a lot of reasons why we chose Tableau and the least is the cost but also the way Tableau stores data in the columnar fashion instead of in Cubes. We went through a painstaking selection process and at the end, came down to a couple of vendors and we ended up with the product that was least to pair up with Amazon Web Services to create a decent and cost-effective proof of concept and we landed with the solution we have today.

Tableau - A Program Ahead of its Peers
We still use Microsoft Excel for much of the lighter, day-to-day pivot tables or calculations. We see Tableau as the future however and are slowly tying more and more of our standard work with Tableau. Smartsheet isn't a 1:1 example, but it was considered for importing information but we found imports were fragmented and the program wasn't meant to be used as we intended.

Tabeau the BI-Giant
- Tableau is a stable and time tested product which can handle hundreds and thousands of users and a huge amount of content, plus tableau has also introduced a web authoring tool which you can [use to] edit dashboards using your browser.
- However, the recent introduction of NLP and keyword search based BI applications like ThoughtSpot and answer rocket are disruptive to the normal trend of BI technologies and hence bring to the table a new range of solutions that allow the users to generate reports on the go.

Our experience by using Tableau Server

Because our big data project team wants to show highly customized visualization for their complex data and analyzed results, only Tableau Desktop can support this target. After we developed many, many dashboards and other views, we wanted to share it with different users. We tried to deploy these design to Tableau Server and got good results. So, we chose it for our presentation layer server.

Tableau - a great reporting solution!
I didn't select Tableau but am very glad we have it! I have used several reporting tools and Tableau is the easiest to use and has the best user adoption.
Other tools can involve lots of background work or just difficult to display the data as needed. Tableau is easy to use and makes our job easier.
