Front-end data collection and marketing tag management
  • Customization of your implementation
  • Transforming data values before sending to data tools
  • Tag marketplace for marketing tags
  • Version control for groups with multiple people working in the same profile at the same time
  • Version control please
  • Seriously.... version control
Tealium Customer Data Hub is great for situations where you want to collect data from a front end data layer and then route it to multiple data tools, or if you need the ability to transform the values collected before sending. There is a tremendous amount of customizability. It has also been good for tag management of marketing/advertising tags/pixels, but could use a little improvement with regards to putting many tags on the same page. If your situation requires a lot of complexity to the marketing tags, it is still very possible to do with Tealium Customer Data Hub, but could be less complicated. Luckily, Tealium Customer Data Hub's support crew is excellent and really will partner with us and help us succeed.
  • Javascript extensions for data manipulation
  • Consent integrations
  • Marketing tag management
  • I do not have a view into this kind of information, however the things that Tealium Customer Data Hub can deploy would surely take many more man-hours to complete without it. We probably would just not be able to do them.
If I could give an 11, I would! Tealium Customer Data Hub support has been instrumental in our success this year, on multiple different projects. I think our organization and team have a little more comfort in getting complicated things done in Tealium Customer Data Hub partly because we know that if we hit a wall, we can always contact support. They have even gone the extra mile to teach our team extra tricks for implementing and debugging. I appreciate them so much.
"Flexible" is a great word for Tealium Customer Data Hub and how we use it! We are using it for data collection, cookie consent integration, AND marketing, all in the same place and within the same team. It is hard to imagine doing all these things without Tealium Customer Data Hub - currently, we can deal with all these major web platform functions within one team. If we did not have Tealium Customer Data Hub, no doubt these functions would be spread out across various teams and some of it outsourced to a 3rd party agency. I think Tealium Customer Data Hub is a major player in what allows us to do all these things in-house.
I have experience with Adobe Launch, GTM, and also just the olden days of directly implementing analytics on a page. I even remember when Tealium Customer Data Hub first came on the market. Digital marketers like myself were skeptical back then, but after a few years working with Tealium Customer Data Hub, my skepticism is long gone. The other products I've worked with are fine if you only need to do one thing. But if you need to do a lot of things (which we do), I am not sure anything compares to Tealium Customer Data Hub. My work day would look very different if I had to use a different tag management system for each type of product we implement.
I believe my organization has premium support, yes. We really need it because we use Tealium Customer Data Hub to its utmost - I get the impression that a lot of organizations using Tealium Customer Data Hub may not use it for as many things as we do. When you have an entire team working with Tealium Customer Data Hub to get things done, you need the premium support.
No
There have been multiple times this year where Tealium Customer Data Hub support saved us so much time and headaches. We needed help with various bugs that came up during implementation that we could not figure out how to resolve on our own. I don't think there has been a single time where Tealium Customer Data Hub support could not help us eventually get there, no matter how complex the problem was. On top of that, they taught me personally some extra tips for debugging which have been incredibly useful. I am truly grateful for the support team.

Tealium iQ Tag Management System is a well-designed clientside Tag Management System with hundreds of 3rd party vendor tags. It is in use across many websites and apps. Tealium iQ Tag Management System manages all analytical functions in focus, but it is also used to control the consent layer. The data layer can be adapted for each vendor using extensions. In this way, new tags can be integrated and managed completely independently of release cycles.
  • Integration of various vendors regardless of release cycles
  • Managing the content layer
  • Managing the data layer across all vendor tags
  • building specific load rules to manage the vendor tags
  • the further development of the tool has stagnated somewhat in the last few years
  • Due to predefined extensions, it is easy to learn, but difficult to master due to Tealium-specific rules
  • as a leader in the tag management segment, Tealium iQ Tag Management System is not cheap
Tealium iQ Tag Management System should be used on websites and apps that have several different tags. Tealium iQ Tag Management System can act very well as a content layer. It is easy to manage different tags and control them centrally. It should not be used if only one Vendor is in use. If many vendors are used for apps, a combination of Tealium iQ Tag Management System and Tealium EventStream should be considered.

  • Data protection activists pay particular attention to Tealium products
Tealium iQ Tag Management System is strictly Vendor independent. Tealium uses a multi-content delivery network and can therefore be reached from anywhere at any time. Tealium's support is focused, the community is very large, and Tealium has been a pioneer in the field of tag management for years.
On the one hand, Tealium iQ Tag Management System offers a well-maintained ticket system in which tickets can be answered in different languages. On the other hand, Tealium offers a large community and an extensive learning system. If consent is given, Tealium iQ Tag Management System can also independently make adjustments to the customer's profiles. The contact persons are always friendly and competent.
I have never purchased a Premium support. Tealiums support and the comunity is for free.
No
With the introduction of GDPR, Tealium gave us optimal support. it was therefore still possible to use the product in compliance with data protection
Tealium iQ Tag Management System does exactly what it is intended for, it manages vendortags. Changes can be made to websites and apps in minutes. The frontend is well structured, updates are easy to carry out, and Tealium support is available at all times.

We utilize Tealium IQ as our primary digital tag management solution. We were initially introduced to it as part of our purchase of Tealium Audience Stream and it was required to enable our use of this platform. What we have found is that it helps us manage our tags more effectively and also helps improve the performance of our site.
  • Tag management
  • Web performance
  • Easy integration with other systems
  • Onsite optimisation integration
  • Time to implement
  • Initial complexity and upskilling
Tealium IQ is well suited as a tag management solution particularly if you are looking at using other components of the Tealium ecosystem such as audience stream. We have found it to be an extremely capable tag management system and provides us far more advance capability over the Google Tag Manager solution we utilized previously. If your tag management needs are basic and you do not require Audience Stream there may be other alternatives such as Google Tag Manager.

  • SEO due to speed improvements
  • Conversion improvements due to speed improvements.
  • Slightly higher cost to service due to upskilling requirements.
We primarily selected Tealium IQ over Google Tag Manager as we had a requirement to utilize Tealium Audience Stream which required Tealium IQ. Overall, we have seen benefits from using Tealium IQ, such as performance improvement and easier integration of some third-party tags. The downside is that there is an additional cost for Tealium IQ over the free version of Google Tag Manager and there has been some upskilling required due to it being a new technology.

Start first with Tealium rathern than try and implement it and a marketing automation solution at the same time.

Oh and do it much earlier.
Took longer than we expected but that was down to us not knowing what we were doing. Tealium though were really helpful and consultative.

Yes, as we wanted to ensure we had the coverage we needed. It has proven worthwhile.

During the implementation our requirements were frequently unclear or changing and they absorbed this uncertainty and helped us focus on what was important.
Very intuitive and easy to find what you are looking for. Doing the training does help though. We have onboarded multiple new users and came across no issues with getting them up to speed. Probably one flaw is that you do need to be aware of what other changes people are making as it's possible to overwrite things occassionally.

We use Tealium iQ on all of our ecommerce properties for US and Europe and are planning to expand to all remaining markets in the next year. We acquired Tealium to both clean-up our tracking and allow for launching tags without having to go through IT.
  • User-interface. We have found the UI to be very intuitive which has made it easier to get use to and features like the color-coding of changed elements and labels make using the tool very eary.
  • Extensions. These are an incredibly powerful way to enrich and power our data layer.
  • Customer service. Our AM is terrific. He's very responsive and always bends over backwards to help.
  • Mobile interface. I had to make a change recently from my phone and it required pinching and zooming on the desktop site.
I feel a rating of 10 would mean that I would recommend Tealium 100% of the time, but there are scenarios where I would recommend a free solution. For example, if a user doesn't have budget for a paid solution or if he/she is only using Google Analytics. For every other scenario that comes to mind, I WOULD recommend Tealium.
  • We were able to save a lot of IT hours due to moving over to Tealium. We estimate Tealium paid for itself in about 4 months.
  • Most of our tags are now able to go live in 15 minutes. I used to take us a 2 week sprint.
  • Ensighten,Google Tag Manager,TagMan
We evaluated Google Tag Manager, Ensighten, and Tagman. We found Google's limited tag library to be a non-starter for our needs. Tagman seemed to lack resources to compete with Tealium and Ensighten. We selected Tealium over Ensighten for three reasons:

  1. Better UI
  2. Better customer references
  3. A corporate leadership we had positive previous experience with (some of us had previously worked with Webside Story)
Analytics is our owner of this tool and handles all implementation and management of tags which are requested by marketing. IT uses it when they need to see what tags are firing through Tealium.
1
I handle all support for the product beyond the on-site implementation of the Tealium tag and UDO.
  • Consistent tracking on all sites in all markets. By using a single Tealium container I'm able to ensure all of our sites are tracking exactly the same.
  • Last minute campaign launches. Last holiday I was given a request to implement a Criteo tag one week before Thanksgiving. Without Tealium, I wouldn't have been able to get this live in time.
  • We no longer have any in-page tags so we no longer have tags slowing down our site load or cluttering our page code.
  • Using extensions in Tealium I was able to create "affinity groups" that flagged users based on what product categories or brands they view the most.
  • Unique checkout path. Our sites have ~6 different unique checkout paths which make it difficult to gain insights from standard Google Analytics funnels, but using extensions we are able to set the users specific checkout path.
  • Standardizing user ID across tags
Our relationship with Tealium has been terrific. They are a key partner for our business and haven't let us down yet.
No
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
Company stability was one of our top criteria. We were looking for a key partner that will be around for the foreseeable future and continue to grow and advance their offering. It was critical for us to that our chosen partner had the ambition and funds to remain at the forefront of the industry.
I would have researched tag management in general and the specific companies much more thoroughly before reaching out. This would have saved time during evaluation as we wouldn't have included two vendors and would have had more specific questions in the early evaluation stages.
  • Implemented in-house
No
  • Thinking through every scenario when planning the data layer and whether to use one or multiple profiles.
Implementation had some bumps in the road and it was new for all of us, but for the most part, it was easier than many other implementations we've done with other technologies.
Yes
For the most part we find the standard support hours to be sufficient, but one time we had to purchase a small amount of additional hours to support a project.
Our AM is the best part of our Tealium relationship. He's well aware of our sites and KPIs, responsive, and always goes the extra mile to help.
No
Due to a planning mistake on our part in the initial implementation, we had to redo a piece of the implementation after a month or two. This required far more hours than were covered under our contract, but our AM and the Tealium solutions engineers helped us fix those errors and didn't charge us for the excessive support hours.
  • Color-coding. When I first log into a profile, the "Submit" button is grey. As soon as a change is made it turns orange. This and other color-coding design choices are a great way for me to tell if I've made any changes that I should save before exiting.
  • Labels. We have hundreds of extensions, so being able to filter that list based on the labels we assign to each is a great way of filtering that list to the relevant extensions.
  • The most difficult part of using a TMS system is understanding the full impact of all the tags and extensions. For example, I recently had a variable that wouldn't pass the correct value and I couldn't understand why. It turned out that I had an error in an extension that I didn't realize was impacting this variable.
No
No interface is perfect and the lack of a mobile interface has been an issue on one or two instances.
