TestComplete is a versatile tool that is primarily used to automate GUI interfaces for web applications and standalone applications. Users have found it particularly helpful in organizing and running tests smoothly, increasing the efficiency of their testing processes. By automating repetitive tasks and allowing more time for exploratory testing, TestComplete has helped users identify previously unknown bugs in software. It is commonly used to automate regression tests of web-based products and in-house developed software that integrates with other applications. Additionally, TestComplete has proved valuable in the banking industry for testing web and mobile applications, custom modules, and CRM systems. It has also been utilized to automate tests for simulation software and to migrate manual test cases to an automated framework. Overall, TestComplete enables users to automate testing processes, save time and effort, and perform a higher number of tests in a shorter period of time.

Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for TestComplete:

  1. Evaluate TestComplete through a demo and build a prototype to determine if it meets specific needs. Try the Free Trial of TestComplete, read community topics, and watch YouTube videos for a quick overview and how-to.

  2. Use TestComplete to build up the automation process. Understand the difference in functionality, cost, and requirements between node-locked and floating licenses. Have a plan, ask a lot of questions when evaluating TestComplete.

  3. Start small and grow the project with TestComplete. Focus on application object mapping and select a test framework consistently. Do a trial and have a live presentation of TestComplete. Consider multiple users and sites for efficiency.

These recommendations highlight the importance of evaluating TestComplete through demos, prototypes, trials, and gathering information from the community. They also stress understanding licensing options, planning thoroughly, starting small, focusing on object mapping and test framework consistency, and considering multiple users and sites for optimal efficiency.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

  • We've increased the perceptive value of our development team to the company as the business now has more confidence in us maintaining and enhancing business-critical applications.
  • Collaboration between the QA team and the development team has increased as testers are included as part of the process from the beginning so they can create tests that will be ready when the features are pushed to their environment.
  • It has helped us hire and retain higher quality QA testers as there aren't as many mind-numbing and repetitive tasks anymore since those types of tasks are now automated via TestComplete.

  • If the number of team members is 20 total, and the number of test cases per year is 3000, test cases that should be automated per year 1000, test case complexity is medium and at last configurations(OS's, Browsers, resolutions) of the test are 75.
  • You can save $21,601,815 and (502,367) hours after 5 years of using TestComplete.
  • Impact, always be positive and it also depends on one's skillset; better use of the features, implementing it on Framework and CI/CD pipeline, etc.
  • I would say, negative impact happens for highly complex apps which need more scripting and time to implement in the tool (a very rare case scenario).
  • ROI is a must to whomever uses TestComplete.

  • It's always profitable to use this tool
  • Less dependency on the DevOps engineer as this tool is easy to configure and set on CICD, so it's positive
  • We are able to achieve the targeted automation work in no time.

  • TestComplete has done a wonderful job of shortening our regression test cycles.
  • TestComplete is a little tougher to implement with schedulers like TeamCity.
  • Licensing is kind of a pain.

  • Regression testing often requires a dedicated team, but human and monetary resources do not always allow for it. Having automation cover parts of this directly relates to saving on both - and top management can make the quick calculation to convert those man-hours into money
  • Where you have smaller QA teams, clients are more assured knowing that automation is involved, in effect increasing the QA count dedicated to their project.

  • Saves hundreds of man-hours with either QA testing or data entry
  • With the small cost of the product, it has saved the company money with both employee costs as well as the cost of mistakes made by human error or software bugs

  • On one of the applications, I've reduced the testing time from a month to five days.
  • I don't always have time to create tests for new features, then I revert to manual testing.
  • The Zephyr reports have given management insight on what happens in the QA department.

  • It's very hard to calculate ROI. Without automation, the manual test execution was taking 10 days and after automating, the test execution just takes a day. Here you have ROI.
  • Also, time for releasing the software into prod improved a lot. With test automation in place, there are more frequent releases.

  • If you plan out correctly how you want to use TestComplete for testing, this will control how your ROI will be. If poorly used, you will have bad ROI, but if correctly used you will have great ROI per your area of testing and how often you run your testing.
  • A great ROI is achieved if you maintain your automation FWK(s), scripts, environments, and data.
  • Negative ROI is achieved if the person(s) doing automation fail to test as required per the development cycle to release. And if no issues are detected, be sure the scripts are again designed to think outside the box for positive and negative testing scenarios.

  • Saves us time which saves us money. I have cut down the sanity test from hours to minutes which allows me to test other areas of our products.
  • There was kind of a steep learning curve for more advanced testing procedures which ate up a bit of time.
  • Creating the tests through TestComplete has allowed us to catch issues in our products that we normally wouldn't test for.
