Since I work at a district school board, Read&Write is primarily used as a Tier 1 education support as well as a Tier 3 support for individuals with learning disabilities that have difficulty reading and writing in the traditional sense. Since we have a district-wide license, all students and staff have access to both Read&Write and OrbitNote which has greatly helped to reduce the stigma of assistive technology usage that is often a barrier for those who rely upon AT to be successful at school.
  • Read&Write works well with Word in Office 365 (we are a Microsoft board)
  • Read&Write is excellent in the speech to text and text to speech areas.
  • We love the prediction tool, especially for users whop are apprehensive to dictate yet still require spelling support.
  • We love the collect highlights feature, especially when we are researching a webpage in order to write a research paper.
  • We love the summarize tool!
  • One main thing that I think could be improved is reducing the lag time when using text-to-speech tools. Even when our laptops are up-to-date and firmware is also up-to-date, I find that there is a significant lag time between selecting text to be read using text-to-speech and the tool actually "speaking". In some cases it has been 15 more more seconds, and this has "lost" some students that I have worked with. This is similar with the lag time experienced between dictating and words actually showing up on the screen when using the Talk&Type feature. Again, I feel that these tools are great and we are happy to have them, but I have found that the lag time is often a barrier to usage for some of our students and even staff.
  • It would be so lovely if voice notes were available for Microsoft users with the R&W Chrome extension.
  • I also think that it would be great if highlights could be collected across several websites, etc. into the same "collect highlights" document.
Read&Write is a top-notch accessibility feature. It is easy to use across all ages and can be implemented in many different ways. It is best used with individuals requiring reading & writing support, but it is also an excellent tool to use with all students!

Read&Write is our primary literacy software. Our business is higher education and this software addresses our needs in terms of providing TTS and study tools for our students. We also recommend it as a speech recognition option for those not using Windows 11 and MacOS. Our user base is mostly students with disabilities but have seen uptake by our some of our international student population and non-disabled students.
  • Text-to-speech
  • study tools (highlights and collecting highlights
  • scanning and OCR (scan feature and screenshot reader
  • Voices for Windows (more natural)
  • Speech Recognition is hit and miss
  • Spell Check is in need of a bit of an update to bring it up to par with Grammarly
Read&Write is great for students that struggle with reading and studying. It really helps with comprehension and information retention. It does struggle to keep up with the rigors or writing at the post secondary level. Spell check lacks the ability to check grammar.

We use Read&Write across our school board to support all our teachers and students. We encourage whole classroom use of the tool to support literacy development. We also subscribe to Orbitnote and Equatio.
  • Word prediction
  • Speech to text in English
  • The highlighting tools!!
  • Picture dictionary
  • word prediction in French
  • I would love to see the ability to have multiple highlights from various webpages merge onto one Google doc
I prefer Read&Write based on its ease of use for students compared to other tools. Having so many tools in one place that work across multiple environments is invaluable. I also appreciate the constant improvements such as language profiles and the Orbitnote ORC scanner etc..

I work for a K-12 school district as a Technology Integration Specialist. Our K-12 students and staff have access to the Read&Write toolbar, and use a variety of the tools for different purposes based on the need and the age of the child.
  • Voice to text
  • Reads text aloud
  • Screen masking
  • Simplifies screen
  • Provides dictionaries (pictures & word definitions)
  • Hover speech
  • Word prediction - we have to have a separate subscription for Co:Writer to get the enhanced features
Very well suited for our older students (secondary). Also very well suited for many elementary students, in different ways! The tools in which would be used at different levels vary on age and on need and purpose.

I teach at a private school for students with learning disabilities. Read&Write allows us to offer a variety of assistive technology tools to our students as well as give teachers and adults the ability to do our own work more efficiently.
  • text-to-speech is great. lots of options for voices and speed
  • gives both word prediction and talk&type as writing supports
  • the fact that it is a toolbar that can be used in native programs is huge for our students because it allows them to be independent in their learning activities
  • Read&Write is very intuitive and requires very little training for the text-to-speech tools so it is very easy to train students and staff
  • I wish the Check It tool was available on the web (only in GDocs currently)
  • I wish the highlighter/collect highlights would collect citation information (kind of a combination of MyBib and highlighters)
  • One weird thing with the Reading tools (text-to-speech) is that if you are zoomed in to FIT on a GDoc it does glitchy stuff (skipping or not displaying) vs when you are at 100% zoom
  • why isn't Rewordify in Read&Write in a Google Doc? only on web version? Same for Simplify text tool.
I've used and tested many assistive technology tools for decades and Read&Write is easy to use, easy to train users to use, and has enough of a variety of tools to allow users with a variety of learning disabilities and needs to find a tool that works for them. As a teacher, the fact that students can independently use these tools to complete assignments in class is great.

Read&Write is our district wide accessibility solution. The product works for us for testing accomodations and as a universal accessibility tool. Students also benefit from the dictionary and vocabulary tools as well as the ability to collect highlights.
  • Text to speech
  • speech to text
  • data desk for testing
  • study skills (collect highlights)
  • we need more info on Windows PC Exam tools
  • we wish the platform worked inside other platforms
  • make equatio a part of the same tool
The tool is easy to deploy across all staff and student accounts. It is truly a universal design solution offering various levels of support on demand. Teachers can expect students to access the tools independently with very little instruction.

I use Read&Write as an assistive technology in K-12 classrooms. It is a great equalizer for students who learn differently. It accommodates many different types of learners and is easy to use. The company is responsive to challenges faced by the software and is easy to contact. They truly aim to support their users!
  • The reading tools are great.
  • I love how the option for multiple languages supports new language learners.
  • The picture dictionary is fantastic, extensive and meaningful.
  • The word dictionary is too difficult and often doesn't lead to clarification of meaning.
  • I would like to see a click to speak on the web toolbar rather than hover speech. Students sometimes have difficulty understanding the hover speech.
  • An option in settings to combine the images from the picture dictionary with the translation tool.
  • Having a Canadian dictionary, spelling and pronunciations would be great.
I find it works great for students in K-12 classrooms, but also for staff as well.

We are an educational institution and we use the Read&Write 4GC tools with all of our staff and students to support literacy and numeracy.
  • OrbitNote for PDF annotation
  • Text-to-speech with customized settings
  • rewordifying text on websites
  • math tools
  • I would like word prediction to be able to be set to default so that it opens automatically for certain students
  • To be able to access the OrbitNote on iPads
  • I don't like losing the option of the OCR tool with Snapverter-I like the use of the snapverter app with students
Read&Write 4GC is a versatile tool for supporting learning for all students with a UDL lens. It is an invaluable tool for our French immersion students to build language understanding. The tools can be overwhelming for students who have cognitive challenges who require more writing support (e.g. word banks, sentence choicesP.

We use Read&Write to provide oral accommodations to students who would not otherwise have access to having their work read aloud. We are a tiny district and if the aide who normally reads tests aloud for students is pulled to cover a class or assist elsewhere, the teacher cannot leave the students in the classroom to go read in another location. Read&Write allows each student to have the level of reading support they need in real-time in their seat where they are most comfortable. It also allows students to receive help when they need the help, whether after school hours or in another classroom.
  • Read aloud selections
  • Read aloud papers that the student has generated
  • provide highlights for important points
  • I would like to see the read feature first in the line up. then the other options further down.
Read&Write is the perfect solution for students to use to meet the reading aloud assignments and exams for their IEP & 504 paperwork. It allows the students to practice when it is convenient for them, not just when the teacher and/or aide is available to help. It also provides specific assistance during other assignments.

We purchase Read&Write for all students and use it as an access support. We have students and teachers with a lot diversity with their needs and wants. The tools provided by Read&Write allow learners to pick what they need when they need it. We have worked to normalize these tools and ensure that they are not viewed as a tier two or three support, but for all.
  • text to speech (like the settings with this)
  • speech to text (sometimes it has issues, but seems to be getting better)
  • Picture dictionary (love that these are click and drag)
  • Please continue to improve translation tools, whole doc and read aloud
  • Please keep improving speech to text...sometimes updates seem to make this tough
  • Please continue to work on Orbit Note, this tool has had quite a few login issues
This tool is a g great support for providing both access and allowing students to have more ways to show what they know. The support with read aloud, pictures, and glossaries, can be a difference maker for students that need support. It has also supported our students as they work to improve their writing skills. It will be interesting to see how AI continues to influence our work.

I am a trainer for a school district. I train students and staff in the appropriate use of Read&Write. Depending on the needs I might focus on using speech to text and playback to write and edit simple sentences. Or, I might focus on using Read&Write online to do research more efficiently and take notes. Then we would use the tools to re-write the notes and possibly write the final version using prediction or speech to text. For staff I might demonstrate how to use Read&Write to create lesson plans and resources more quickly and efficiently while also having them support students who need to use Read&Write to access the curriculum.
  • It is a game changer for working online and removing ads and simplifying pages.
  • Having the ability to create user profiles for different languages is amazing
  • The prediction tool along with the dictionaries/translation tool really help English Language Learners access the learning
  • Speech to text and playback are a great combination for writing and editing documents efficiently
  • Sometimes the tools are laggy. Especially the playback button. This causes students to stop using it.
  • Whenever Google updates chrome, Read&Write tends to develop more glitches. It would be great if more open communication between TextHelp and Google was started to avoid the weeks of disruption to student learning
  • The simplify page tool is often glitchy when used on online articles. This has been the case since a major Google upgrade about 18 months ago. About 50% of the time the article is not simplified...only the comments from the article appear on the simplified page.
Read&Write is an excellent tool for use in school. Regardless of the grade level, it can easily be used by any student. Teachers can also benefit from using the tools to increase the efficiency of their prep. It can be used to start basic reading and writing tasks, or for researching in high school.

I am the Assistive Technology Teacher. I use Read&Write for reading and writing with students that haved an IEP. LD, etc. We use the tools for reading, writing, research, presentations etc.
  • Word Prediction
  • Dictionary
  • Simplify Page
  • The voice to text can be tricky for students that do not have developed, age level speech.
  • At times, word prediction varies in use depending on the application. Glitchy with Google Forms.
I have students that comprehend text but their decoding is not at grade level. They are able to listen to texts. This allows students to "read" grade level texts and enjoy reading. Students that have difficulty with spelling are able to use Word Prediction and Talk and Type. It gives them confidencde to try working independently.

Read&Write is used to provide universal design for learning for all students in my school district. In addition, for students who need more specialized support, such as word prediction or picture dictionary, the students and teachers have the support at their fingertips to explore and try to determine if the specialized support is required. School district staff and students easily navigate the tools. Customizations such as voice and speed adjustments make Read&Write a successful tool for a variety of needs.
  • word prediction
  • read aloud (web and google platforms)
  • highlight collections
  • vocab builder- enter the words individually rather than collecting highlighted words
It provides accommodations for read aloud and word prediction with ease. Teachers, related service providers, and students find the tools easy to use.

I begin teaching students the tools in grade 3 for composition, editing, and reading. I teach every 3rd grader and then remind all the grade 3-6 teachers to include my videos and resources in their Google Classrooms. I'm the point person to find glitches in our district as well, and have worked with your team to get to the bottom of such glitches. Unfortunately, after 16 years the budget has cut my position in district. I'm unsure how the software will continue to be utilized without an integration specialists helping teachers and students. I feel like I've been the biggest advocate for the software and now am worried that it will go underutilized. I've created, taught, and integrated TextHelp products into the very fabric of our curriculum. I hope it's enough. Please reach out to me for more. I've done the most work around your software than any other.
  • Helps students compose.
  • Helps students edit.
  • Helps students read comfortably.
  • When a tool doesn't work as intended, it can tank the whole lesson. At times, it's a ton of back and forth with Text help to alleviate the issues.
  • The tools are amazing, but I had to figure out the best way to teach students to use them in both reading and writing, and by age group.
Read&Write is the best software I would recommend to any district. I've recommended and argued against spending money in [...] to 100s of companies. Read&Write is the only one I put a hard foot down; it is the one product I have always insisted on. The ties to SBA are incredible; this is also an area which I've created the connection to for my district. Again, I worry what happens starting next year.

As a high school administrator who supports students and teachers, I am beyond amazed by the tools provided in the Read&Write platform. These tools allow our students to navigate texts, writing, and comprehension assignments with ease, making teacher's work easier as they support them. Our favourite tool is definitely the highlights collector, allowing for the creation of study notes, followed by the visual dictionary. The fact that the tools are available at the top of the Chrome browser and there is no need to leave the page, allows for seamless use and displayed results for its users. We are in awe every time of the ease of use and simple solutions the platform provides. As our school caters for special ed students, the tools are priceless for them. Screen mask, audio maker and predictive writing are essential for students with IEPs and the text to speech button is probably the most used tool. In summary - an incredible set of tools, highly recommended and affordable.

I work in a school district. We use Read&Write district wide to support all learners but especially those that need speech to text, word prediction, text to speech. Staff have found dictionary and picture dictionary to be very useful. We try to encourage the use for all students and staff.
  • Text to speech
  • Dictionary
  • Picture dictionary
  • Audio notes
  • Speech to text
  • Highlighters
  • Vocabulary list
  • Word prediction
  • Speech to text different languages (type in English)
  • Translation
  • Support for research-outline tools
  • Features in word bank universal
  • Ability to move word prediction toolbar to bottom of screen
  • Read aloud to act like fluency tutor
  • Writing support like wriQ to make better writers
It is a good tool for text to speech it even reads math. It is a time saver for staff and students to make vocabulary lists. I also like the ability to highlight text and extract the highlights. The dictionary and picture dictionary are very powerful for all learners. The ability to leave voice notes is a powerful feature to make a quick comment to others or to get your ideas out and listen to your audio note to remind you what you wanted to write about. The translation feature is not as powerful as I would like, it translates one word which is great for some students, but other applications provide more support to students who are starting to learn English.

Initially, our organization was limited to 15 licenses. This limitation created a barrier as employees had to request access from the HR team and justify their need for a license. We recognized that more than 15 individuals within the company could benefit from this tool, but some were hesitant to approach HR.To address this, we transitioned to an enterprise license, granting all employees access to the tool. This change has been positively received, with over 100 employees downloading the tool since the implementation.
  • Screen Mask
  • Highlight
  • Prediction
  • Speech to text, this can be a little slow
  • General performance of the tool can be slow
  • It would be useful to have Bionic Reader
Screen masking appears to be really popular, or highlighting a row to focus your eyes.

Speech to text has been a challenge for some as it can often run slow

Prediction and storing words have been a benefit for people with Dyslexia

Currently, my district uses Read&Write to support special education students' IEP needs. I think Read&Write is very robust, but I would love to see some of the features of Cowriter & Snap and Read embedded into it. Some of these features include topic dictionary when using word prediction, customization of highlighting when use Text to speech reader, translation of text to speech and speech to text into a different language. I would also be great if an app was created for OrbitNote so it could be used on an ipad, similar to Snap&Read. I would love to get a district license, but the admin will not approve due to cost.
  • Easy of use.
  • Learning academy is a great resource for learning about how to use the tools.
  • Many different features to meet different students learning needs.
  • Use on ipad.
  • Additional features to meet more students' needs (topic dictionary for word prediction, translation of TTS and STT, word prediction in different languages, customizing how text is highlighted using TTS reading tools.
I recommend Read&Write for most students with learning disabilities related to reading or writing. There are some students depending on the significance of their disability I recommend other tools for.

I work at a school for complex learners who require assistive technology programs and tools in order to complete their work across subject areas. Our students have limited written expression, reading comprehension, memory, and study skills, and really benefit from the supports inherent in the Read&Write toolbar.
  • Intuitive interface
  • Good customer service if needed
  • Multiple tools
  • Pricing options for using multiple Don Johnston tools
  • Sometimes the toolbar does not work well with certain PDFs
  • There are not pictures or definitions for all words
Read&Write is great for the students at my school. It is less appropriate for our younger students (K-2).

Texthelp is used all across our school district, primarily with Read and Write. We use this tool with students to individually focus on and help support their reading and writing. In special education, the tools available especially assist with the specific needs of students. The Read and Write Chrome extension is great for our Chromebook 1:1 in the district, providing tools like text-to-speech, highlighting, and simplifying the task of reading. EquatIo has also been a newly adopted math tool that has been great in our district, especially with our 1:1 program.
  • The highlighting feature has been loved by our staff and allows students to identify items as they go along and read.
  • Text-to-speech has been an important tool in our special education classes and allows differentiation in general ed as needed.
  • EquatIo has replaced a tool that no longer exists, allowing our students to created equations and formulas in Google Docs.
  • There have been a few bugs when launching EquatIo that just need to be cleaned up to remove frustrations from staff while using.
  • Nothing else, it's a really simple to use tools that enhance learning and teaching!
Texthelp creates amazing tools that are great for schools and education, especially with students in special education classes or who have specific needs to assist their learning. With a 1:1 initiative, the tools also support differentiation and personalized learning.
