TIBCO ActiveMatrix is used by the company for mapping processes and for data visualizations. The product is mostly used by analysts to map out what they are doing in connection with other parts of the economy. The data visualization is a secondary component that helps analysts and managers see what is going on.
  • TIBCO ActiveMatrix is most useful in getting analysts to talk with each other.
  • The software is quite user-friendly. Analysts with no programming experience can work with the software.
  • The data visualization of the backend data is helpful.
  • By being so user-friendly, customizing the software is more difficult that it needs to be.
  • The software is also not perfect on modeling suggestions.
  • TIBCO ActiveMatrix also takes a long time to open. A looooong time.
TIBCO ActiveMatrix is most useful for teams that need help mapping out their processes with other, co-dependent teams. It makes that conversation happen in a logical, structured way. The software is also helpful for professionals that need more data visualization in their business. On the opposite side, the software is not useful for really small businesses. It’s not worth the money.

Control and governance tool for all business workflow in a company of about 250 people. The product handles IPO workflow , customer on-boarding through to annual leave. It was setup to enable users to integrate and manage the whole process themselves via a number of standard templates put in place. The setup was done on time and under budget. I would have no issues using or buying this product again in the future.
  • Time to market
  • Flexibility
  • Control
  • More expensive licence than competitors
It’s not a transaction platform so don’t try and use it as such you need a custom solution like a calypso or similar. It is a brilliant non-stp solution tool it will make it feel like you have an STP workflow and the reporting service provides real colour on what’s going on in your organisation.

BPM is used majorly by the integration to orchestrate the business process. This is one of the best tools available on the market for business process orchestration. TIBCO is a fun to work tool and it makes developers life easy with the rich and easy to use features.
  • Integrate with multiple sources
  • Has mostly all the adapters to connect to legacy and new systems
  • On premise and cloud
  • Code compare to see the differences
  • Continuous integration and automate build process
Any complex and rich business process is a handy tool. for people who needs a business process to connect to multiple systems and to integrate multiple systems, this is more useful.

TIBCO ActiveMatrix has been used as a TIBCO iProcess replacement as a BPM for business processes managing direct sales with the customer (those that are complex and cannot be solved within a day or a single call).
  • Good process design, clear and new generation Eclipse interface
  • Different levels of data within the process, case management at its full extent
  • Capabilities driven task assignment, no more limits to users & groups
  • Architecture is quite complex, not that easy to set up and run
  • Still a lot of room to be as stable in production as iProcess was
  • Albeit in version 4 it still feels not mature enough for critical applications
It is well suited on heavily integrated scenarios where it takes advantage of BW integration and therefore it is easy to connect to everything. Complex business processes are welcome also. But if your organization has several environments (DEV, TEST, QA, STAGGING, PROD) and your dev/deploy/admin roles are isolated, promoting software is a bit difficult.

  • Good resource authentication and authorization system

  • It's a little difficult in first time configuration.
TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM is well suited and ready to use when configured with standard process with human interaction.

The organization uses the application in one department. In apps are developed BPM processes with external services integration and data orchestration.
  • It is very easy to project models of processes
  • Very good implemented BPM features
  • You can use OpenSpace api and administrator api to build more complicated things.
  • Part of BPM Studio connected with development of mediation has many bugs.
  • BPM Studio doesn't contain debugger.
  • Some problems with deployment of more sophisticated projects (ex. Decision Tables).
It is very good to implement BPM processes without complication integration and data orchestration. It's not for middle-ware projects with only a small part of BPM.

It's used across the entire organization of an important financial institute. It solves in a great manner the business scenario of the management of long-term business processes offering the possibility to resubmit a task in error. It permits us to represent easily the corporate organization by the organization model. The model is designed to easily define the organization unit and dispatch the proper privilege to them.
  • Workspace and Openspace Console that offers a powerful method for troubleshooting and viewing the routing within a process
  • Easy representation of the corporate organization
  • Powerful IDE to design a business process as a TIBCO Business Studio BPM Edition
  • Testing and Debugging
  • Improvement of the simulation
The scenario where TIBCO ActiveMatrix is well suited is in the scenario where there are more long-term business processes and in a complex corporate organization where there are many users with different privileges to perform actions on the same processes. It's less appropriate where there are no complex business process especially if the resubmit of the task in error is not required.

Our actual TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM projects have been focused on department needs. The main goal for these projects is automating manual processes.
  • Fast system prototyping
  • Good service and process integration
  • Custom development documentation
PRO: Good for business-centric systems.
CONS: Needs to improve integration with 3rd-party authentication systems (for example, Federated STS systems and Windows Identity foundation).

TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM is being used across the organization to design and control the traffic of information between the different Treasury Information Systems. It is use to check and monitor the transactions of the Financial Products.
  • Simplifies the development of transaction processes in a complex environment
  • It has a complete graphical interface that allows an intuitive use
  • It provides a useful Test Environment
  • the application pre-designs the structure of the process as it is created and sometimes it is difficult to undo some configurations
It is highly recommended to use TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM in an environment with many Information Systems managed by many independent actors. On the other hand, if the number of Information Systems and applications are low or the transactions between them are low it is not recommended.

In addition one has to consider if these processes are susceptible to many changes or if they will be maintained by one or many actors. If they are static or only a few groups of people will design them, it is not recommended also.

I currently support BPM for my client on a daily basis and it is being used across the organisation. On a day-to-day basis, we have had problems with nodes losing connection with EMS. We are communicating currently with TIBCO support to ensure this problem is solved. Apart from this, we are also having a persistent storage error happening.
  • TIBCO offers multiple ways to implement the sophisticated forms of event-driven BPM. It also balances the combination of business rules and AMX BPM for a different variety of IT Applications
  • It depends on the Enterprise service bus which is message oriented middleware
  • The integration of Spotfire with AMXBPM and BusinessEvents is a unique advantage
  • It is not very useful for business user led projects because of its weak capabilities for high productivity application authoring
  • It's very expensive
  • The data stored in the BPM product table affects the functioning of the integration
It is well suited for high-level analytics or real-time integration among multiple applications. But it's powerful and over complicated and expensive for most small and midsize BPM projects.

BPM is used for visual data discovery. It also has two stream analytics CEP Platforms. It offers high-level real-time analytics and operational intelligence.

TIBCO has been a reliable tool for us to use in moving data between our e-commerce systems in our organisation. This platform helps to minimize errors by a significant level. It also presents business data in a clear and easy to understand format.
  • Ease in linking this to a workbook, the software is very intuitive and provides quick generations of visualizations.
  • Physical business model is changing. The mobile integration and monitoring and management features of this software are really great.
  • A little bit too conservative. Not really anything leading edge. [Tibco] has plenty of customers, and that means they will probably be around forever, but [product enhancements] seem to be more [abundant in competitor product offerings].
  • It would be great to have some pre-defined themes. Pie chart labels - it would be great to get more options for sizing and placement.
  • I find it hard to trust the online portal too much. I doubt the security that is offered by this software.
TIBCO BPM is well suited in these domains: high-productivity app authoring, monitoring and business alignment, rule and decision management, and analytics. But it is not as user-friendly as needed. A lot of customization [is required].

My team has dealt with the implementation of a system using both BusinessWorks and ActiveMatrix BPM, for management related to a customer in the field of selling essential goods. This management focused on linking certain specific activities to the competent corporate role, and this was very much related to the use of the software under review.
  • Creating a good corporate management system
  • Good phase of logging and management of every business process
  • Good correlation with database drivers
  • Limited customization of movement validation flows
A scenario for good use of the software is a scenario where business customers are assigned different duties and business privileges depending on the degree of importance in the company itself and where for any movement there is a need for someone who approves the situation. Conversely, if there is a situation where business customers [rank] equally in the same obligations and duties, this situation does not fit the BPM software.

We use AMX BPM for an audit system, where the work items represent one single client and it progresses to multiple stages, gets escalated to managers for approval and gets back and forth to the user until it gets completed.
  • Assign work items to set of users. You can assign work to users based on the groups they belong to in the org model or by their position.
  • Manage user access and privileges, each set of users can perform a set of tasks based on their privileges and we can also restrict the actions for each level of users.
  • Escalating work items: A user can escalate a work item to a senior user and the matter can be progressed to another level or get closed straight away. The life cycle of work items is stored in the database where it gets reflected in Spotfire reports.
  • One of the challenges we faced with AMX BPM is the way the data is kept and it is hard to troubleshoot when a work items goes into halted state. Either there should be better documentation of what is under the hood or simplify the way work items data are stored.
  • Assigning privileges to system action where multiple organization models are used, seems to create ambiguity, as per the manual: "If different privileges are assigned to the same system action at different levels in the organization model, each level is checked when determining whether a user has the necessary privilege to be able to perform a particular system action. If the lowest level has no required privileges assigned, the parent entity is checked, and so on up the organization model hierarchy to the default, system-wide value."
  • It is cumbersome to add the same system action in all org models even though it won't be used everywhere.
  • When AMX BPM integrates with other products such as AMX BusinessWork, there should be a better way for the work items to handle broken communication. Data recovery seems to be an issue.
When a work item requires involvement from multiple people and escalation it works well.

In our organization, we use both AMX BPM 3.0 and AMX BPM 4.0 to design and develop for better integration business outcomes. With flexible processes able to react to the right business events in real time, for all an organization’s business process needs.
  • Organizes business processes in a clear and organized view.
  • Powerful tool for complex business processes.
  • You cannot test and locale your business process
  • Clean, Build and Deploy is slow and complex
  • AMX BPM Administration is too complex in the beginning
If you have to orchestrate only a few and short time processes, you shouldn't use ActiveMatrix BPM.

In the company, we use TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM 4.0 for several customers active in the energy, banking, and industrial sectors.

For some projects, we have encountered problems developing and evolving on systems and flows that have been active for some time. On other projects having started without any foundation, it was mainly used when analyzing and designing the business architecture.

  • The ability to easily generate low-code apps (with low code usage) tailored to meet your organization's needs.
  • Functionalities and Relocation Case Management Templates.
  • Support speed-of-process processes for opportunistic and quick experiments when you start an instance of a new business process, or share new actions on an existing process.
  • The TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM 4.0 platform could improve in process management that implements a large amount of data management.
  • Improve the business growth management of the company that decides to make use of the product.
  • By providing graphical tools that analyze the performance of growth and maintenance of processes.
  • Improve the audit and logging system.
A scenario in which I suppose that the TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM product is a suitable product is the phase of analysis and design of the business architecture of a new system. Proper analysis and structuring of your business architecture and database may help to develop business processes through other products, including TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks.

I use TIBCO AMX BPM for the client business workflow implementation. It is used partially by the organization for now.
  • Distributing work to individual or team/groups
  • Maintaining process instance data case to case basis
  • Providing proper user interfaces interactively at runtime
  • Please make the TIBCO AMX Admin more user friendly. Currently we face a lot of issues with opening it in Browser.
  • The BPM Documentation is not good. The older Blue header was much better. It s not compatible with IE at all.
  • You should put proper help on how to configure Security Policies with respect to BPM without using Mediation wrapper.

It is being used for one of our UAE based government clients . The system manages the whole workflow starting from getting an application for a certain service and the complete review cycle is managed through the ActiveMatrix BPM engine. BPM engine also interacts with the back office system where we manage the notifications, payments etc. Also the Active Matrix BPM engine is integrated with a .NET based system where the other aspects of the system are managed outside the application review cycle workflow.
  • Application review
  • Notifications
  • Open Space User interface
Suitable for any system which has a systematic workflow.

In our organistaion, TIBCO is used to build process flow for telecom projects. It is used by a department only. It is easy to implement and has lots of functionality which reduces the users' work.
  • Good GUI.
  • Lots of inbuilt functions and service flow components.
  • Mainly drag and drop of components are required, with minimal coding.
If the task is repetitive and changes in flow do not take place too often, then TIBCO is best suited to build such flows and processes.
