Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

  • On the positive side, it is relatively inexpensive. It allowed us to get started quickly as a smaller company and integrate systems that had few options. The replication has worked well. It has burned us with support issues in the past but overall is very cost effective and trusted now. The current product has proven very solid.
  • On the negative side, support is lacking on tougher technical issues. Follow up is poor. Some earlier technical issues had no fixes or workarounds. Cloud service based endpoints for calling and receiving was non-existent but seems to be available now. Payload mapping from one source to another is limited.

  • BusinessWorks 5 allowed us to make a good name for our new team. We were able to create solutions quickly, and they ran reliably. We were not only fast and reliable, we were also able to accomplish projects that had failed in the past, mostly due to a lack of software developers. With TIBCO, we were able to make it much easier for the various teams to share data. BW6 has compromised our good name so far. It often takes a very long time to develop even a simple interface, and sudden strand issues have halted our production instances.
  • BW5 is expensive but worth the cost. Two people, already well versed in the business processes and infrastructure of an organization, can easily and quickly create interfaces between systems. The technical work is probably 10% of the effort, the rest business process discovery and testing. BW6, again, is a real pain. We only use it for REST calls. BW6 is not worth the cost.
  • Training a new developer on BW5 is relatively easy. For example, it only took me 12 hours to train a Java developer to use BW5 productively, able to work on actual projects. My boss and I also self learned BW5 over the course of running projects, and found it straight forward. We did no formal training. BW6 is again opposite. The issue is the Eclipse based designer. Eclipse is a good tool, but the BW6 designer is very immature and suffers from many frustrating bugs -- some that even corrupt the work-space or crash the designer. The biggest challenge with BW6 is getting around these bugs. For this reason, even after having it for well over a year, I have not started to train any new developers on BW6. It would simply be a waste of time. They would not be productive for months and would constantly need my help with complicated issues and vague errors. It's just better to do the REST interfaces myself. BW6 is not worth the time cost of training.

  • Thanks to the easy way of using the products I could spend more time on studying generic concepts and cases of use of the products more than focusing on how it works
  • From a business perspective the markets offered a lot of job opportunities with good remuneration
  • TIBCO support was one of the strategic forces of the product, but the quality of the new BW6 and it's related support has decreased in the last year so customers start looking for different solutions

  • Since the development time is shorter, TIBCO BusinessWorks will yield returns quicker. But that being said, I tried some POC on the 6.x versions, they are completely different and they are not as easy to develop as in the designer based 5.x version.
  • Easy to scale up the engines with multiple granular controls to modify and manage every aspect of the deployment. Hence requires less investment in the deployment cycle.
  • Although TIBCO BusinessWorks supports scripted deployment. TIBCO environments do not support simultaneous deployment of all the engines at the same time. Hence requires a longer down time of the applications during the major upgrades. Longer downtime means loss of business.

  • The Client used it to connect to eCommerce which brings in a lot of profit.
  • For a period of time, the system was using TIBCO BW and IIB. It seems BW runs better than IIB.
  • TIBCO is a middle man. It can see processes between integrations which is an advantage but also a disadvantage. When something happens, another team usually comes to the TIBCO team. TIBCO team usually can help to find out the source of the issues.
