  • Support team is responsive.
  • Product has been easy to integrate into our AWS cloud stack.
  • We were able to get the product to render the reports we need.
  • API documentation is confusing and often missing key details and usage examples.
  • We have struggled to find a happy place around performance, and diagnosing performance issues. We are now considering whether to ditch Jaspersoft altogether due to its apparent difficulties in rendering large reports.
  • The company made the extra logging diagnoses a paid extra feature... we should not have to pay extra to diagnose performance problems in the product.

  • Jaspersoft provides an ability to allow my users to build their own analysis in a snap plus the environment is completely secure.
  • Jaspersoft provides us with the ability to build pixel perfect reports for end users.
  • Jaspersoft contains some amazing visualizations that speaks a thousand words.
  • I cannot speak to its core functionality as what we need is there. But it required quite a bit of hunting to get to what we were needing. There are no well published resources that can point to the data modeling for the tool plus development environment requires quite a bit of learning.

  • Intuitive UI
  • Good performance for pixel perfect reports
  • Multi-tenancy support
  • Very bad performance for Ad Hoc Views when working with medium to large datasets
  • Poor documentation of Domain creation and tuning
  • Official monitoring and instrumentation support is very limited
Pixel perfect reports work very well, either embedded on a third party app or using the Jasper Server web app. Data discovery features like ad-hoc views should only be used for limited tests, and not as the primary means for reporting.

  • Documentation is readily available and has a nice user base to provide third party support for many common issues and concerns.
  • Easy to use. Very user friendly and simplistic when needed.
  • Integration with other languages and systems is not complex.
  • More in depth documentation regarding some of more advanced customization options. For example, using Java applets with Jaspersoft iReports.
  • It can be difficult to write advanced queries or complex reporting models from within the JasperSoft suite itself. If you have to get very complex, there are other options such as using Java or another language to process the data and form it as XML to send into Jasper, but it would be so much easier to allow for this from inside the IDE.
  • Have noticed some issues going between versions of Jasper Reports. As if backwards compatibility was lost in one version, then regained in another.
If the colleague is in the market for some nice data analysis and reporting tools, Jaspersoft products are definitely at the top of my list.

Some questions might be:
- What do you need to report, and how do you want to present it?
- What technologies are you consuming it from (Java, C#, etc)?
- What kind of output methods are you looking for (PDF, CSV, HTML)?
