TIBCO Software Inc.A Sweet Spot between Overwhelming and Underwhelming2018-10-19T16:52:21.280ZWe use it to manage data collected during field work for environmental and geophysical purposes. We collect a lot of data with many aspects to it that is easy to mismanage. TIBCO Spotfire Data Science has been incredibly helpful in organization, analysis, and management of collected data, as well as collaborating with coworkers on the data management and presentation for clients.,It has a great user interface, easy to navigate and learn on the fly.
There are lots of great options for data organization and analysis! Makes it a handy tool for presentations as well.
A collaborative ability is highly valued for my company where we often work from home or on site. Being able to share the data with those in the office so multiple people can look at it is a great tool!,The visualization aspect of the program can be a little tricky to figure out. It's great to have options but it will take a bit of practice before your figures start looking the way you want (or that's how it was for me).
While younger employees like myself may quickly grasp on to the program, the modern interface is difficult for older employees to navigate and get comfortable with. This isn't a problem until you are trying to collaborate with them and things go awry. Perhaps they just need in-depth tutorials to help expedite their learning process.
It can be difficult to connect to other databases to import existing data. It's just not an obvious pathway and required some researching before I got the hang of it.,8,There has been a great increase of productivity because of the saved time and streamlined communication about the projects. For a small company, putting our hours to better use is critical while we are still building the business.
Once you get the hang of the interface, it saves time. But it can be a time-sucker if there are technically challenged employees trying to figure it out. Cloud-based applications are often trickier to understand if you're unfamiliar with internet applications to begin with, so in some cases the time spent trying to teach or learn the application is too extensive for there to be a real benefit.,Microsoft Office 2016, Google Drive and TIBCO Spotfire,Google Drive, TIBCO Spotfire, Microsoft Office 365Abigail BowdenTIBCO Spotifre Data Science is perfect for the analyst who likes the Excel feel to analytics, but that comes with the downside on speed and customizability2019-01-19T18:53:42.147ZTIBCO Spotfire Data Science is used for two purposes. The first purpose is for the many one-off projects that require advanced analytical modeling that can be easily reproduced. The second purpose is for continuous data modeling projects. The software addresses the need to provide insight to executives, while making the analytical process of providing that insight as straight-forward as possible.,Perhaps the best advantage of TIBCO Spotfire Data Science is that the user interface is kind of like Microsoft Excel, and since every analyst has experience with Excel, using TIBCO Spotfire comes naturally.
TIBCO Spotfire has an incredible amount of analytical capability. An analyst that's doing web crawling may also use the tool for text mining, random forests, time-series modeling, and a host of other processes.
One of the most used aspects of TIBCO Data Science is its very nice graphical capabilities. The graphs are very nice for web and PDF presentations.,Because the software is kind of Excel-ish, it sometimes takes a fair amount of time to run through analyses with big data.
The graphics capabilities are fine, although creating user-defined graphics is no easy task. In general, most analysts shy away from creating their own graphs.
The software connects to most any data set an analyst uses, but it doesn't connect to everything. And connections are not as smooth as other real-time business analysis software tools.,10,Programming data science projects using R or Python takes a lot more time than it does in TIBCO Spotfire Data Science. TIBCO seems to have thought through what would save the typical analyst time and what the typical analyst does every day. The software is perfect for the analyst who likes an Excel-type interface. For analysts with this background, the tool saves lots and lots of time. It's definitely a positive return on investment for this type of analyst.
For an analyst that doesn't know a whole lot about statistics, TIBCO Data Science was a negative return on investment because the time spent figuring out what the different models mean and how to use them was generally a waste of time. The software is aimed at professionals, not amateurs.
Perhaps the highest return on investment is from the data mining component of TIBCO Spotfire Data Science. The user interface is awesome, and the many capabilities are perfect for analysts that know and want to do a wide range of analytical tasks.,Airtable, Tableau Desktop, Microsoft R (formerly Revolution R), Google Analytics, SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS Enterprise Guide and Qlik Sense,Microsoft 365 Business, Microsoft R (formerly Revolution R), Microsoft Power BI, Tableau Desktop, Mitel MiCollab, Microsoft SQL Server, TIBCO Data Virtualization, Google Analytics PremiumThomas YoungTIBCO Spotfire Data Science is a team builder!2018-10-12T16:09:28.530ZWe regularly use TIBCO Spotfire Data Science as a means to share and develop code that we make and use for our geologic informational systems programs. We are usually working in VBS script or in Python, so TIBCO Spotfire Data Science is a great tool for multiple people in the lab to work on Python codes.,Collaborative interface that allows multiple people to work on the same project
Very user friendly
Minimum coding,Some basic tutorials on coding, such as introduction to Python would be great
It would be nice to have a direct output to ArcGIS files
An online database of code would be helpful for open sourced products,6,Greater collaboration from all members of the project team
More transparency on goals, methods, and the project in general
Better integration of tools and codes among the group,Tableau Desktop, Keen IO, Looker, JMP Statistical Discovery Software from SAS, MATLAB and IBM SPSS,MATLAB, IBM SPSS, Tableau Desktop, Keen IO, Looker, JMP Statistical Discovery Software from SASShelby BowdenTIBCO Spotfire Data Science is all we need and more2018-09-06T17:48:04.962ZWe are thinking of upgrading our product to have all at once. I'm the number 1 advocate toward this move. It is a big data analytics platform that aims collaboration between engineers and the business people who create a workflows with coding that much!,Collaboration
Not much coding
Still leveraging big data,10Elisa Andujar
