I learned Spotfire on my own. I was searching for user friendly analytics software to use. I was working on a project where I can display data in a more presentable format with limited colors. I came across Spotfire when a colleague introduced me to the software. I was able to use the software to customize reports and dashboards for senior stakeholders.

I was able to explore some untouched areas this platform like Expression Shortcuts, Mods Development, Data Functions tips and tricks etc.
Also, Spotfire training helped to save a lot development time by demonstrating the shortcuts present in system. I was able to understand some nice features like in-built predictive algorithms, classification and clustering approaches etc.

I never took the formal training that was offered in our company, as it happened the month before I joined. However, I learned from colleagues and through various web searches/resources. There are a lot of resources out there (Dr. Spotfire, Spotfire Community, etc.) that I use similar to how I figured out advanced functions in Excel. Through this, I became one of the power users within the company.

The only training was from the developers, there was no official training for users...The impact was huge..we spent a lot of time explaining users each area of the tool, this was very cumbersome.

In person training initially was great as it got us used to the software and able to ask questions. The online training post in person training worked great as we could go at our own pace and refer to the material later on when we ran into trouble once implemented

Yes that's true to fetch the best results from the tool it is very much required to know the tool very well from a close perspective then only the knowledge we own can go well in terms. So we had online training sessions and a few sessions from the experts as well and after this, we have found our efficiency, productivity, and correct increased by manifold.

  • no training
We had no training. I asked me colleagues for help. My manager offered to pay for a Udemy course, but nothing else. My team does conduct spotfire classes for other teams sometimes, but that was after I got comfortable with the tool. So I didn’t find it useful.

No formal training other than what could be accomplished via documentation (very thorough) and online sources such as YouTube. Tableau has a much larger user community and hence more freely available resources.

Personally, I got in person training seven or eight years ago, but after that everything has been under online youtube training, reading version control features and so on.
It is a very fast learning curve, you can do simple stuff immediately, and complicated stuff in a week. It introduces you to several worlds that are optional. For example, you can make calculations from the database using data direct database connection (like most of the visualization tools on this segment), or you can do it on the application itself, or send it to a R server using python script. In my personal case, maybe 90% is done on the visualization itself, so it´s faster for the user. The side part is that this way requires [you] to load all data on the visualization and not only aggregated columns.

There was a one day course we took through a TIBCO partner (CADEON), which walked through the basics of TIBCO Spotfire and how to use it. I found this helpful, but not nearly comprehensive enough for my purposes. I have leveraged the online community of users to help me find solutions to most of my roadblocks
