If someone is happy to pay for Spotfire desktop then it's a very good tool for data visualization. The Cloud version is so limiting that it's not worth considering. By offering such limited capabilities in the Spotfire Cloud version is almost putting users off from their products. They should seriously review what they offer in cloud vs desktop versions.

Licensing and costs aside this is a great tool. Although with Microsoft coming up with their analytic capabilities, it will become increasingly difficult to convince decision-makers to have to pay extra for a tool like this.

Spotfire is good for visualizing complete data sets and for joining incomplete data sets for visualization. However, we struggle when mathematical manipulations are required prior to visualizing the data. We find ourselves going to Excel, crunching the numbers, and sending a CSV back to Spotfire.

Good for a broad range of users who need to get started quickly with data visualization and collaborate and share their data. If they are already familiar with Excel or SAS, then they should find it easy to add data visualizations. If they are familiar with Tableau on the other hand, then they are probably better off sticking with that. It is also much more expensive than PowerBI.

Spotfire 10 is amazing!

If I need integration with R or need to use statistical functions, then Spotfire is an ideal tool. However, for a simple visualization dashboard with cross filter capabilities, there are cheaper alternatives out there (Power BI, Altryx etc.).

Working with huge data sets is an awesome tool. This was the major reason I switched from excel to Spotfire and jumped over Microsoft BI. Seeing data loaded quickly without hesitating is awesome. It was a hard decision to add another software application (additional costs) but the results are now showcasing the ease of use.

If you create weekly reports with a lot of data, Spotfire helps you speed up the process and make it easier. If you have a lot of data sources and every one of them has different formatting, you will have to spend a lot of time cleaning the data so Spotfire can read every source and produce the reports.

I found it great for taking in a lot of information about a certain thing geographically, putting it on a map, and allowing the map to be "interactive" in that the flags would show all the details of the item when clicked on, as well as auto-zooming to filtered sections of the map when others are eliminated.

Best scenarios - trend analysis, Pareto charts, outliers and a long list of analytic tools. The separation between development and usage with a web server. It is hard and slow to analyze big data because of hardware and software limitations. In any case, I have found Spotfire very useful in my professional career.

Spotfire is excellent for delivering reports of data so the end-user can spend more time on data analysis and interpretation and less time on data gathering. It has sufficient capabilities to be able to evolve as the user gains an understanding of the data and explore further opportunities form the data. Spotfire, at this stage, has limitations in the maximum volume of data it can handle and does not do well to guide the general user in optimizing the data retrieval and cleaning that would facilitate better presentation speed. It is not yet well integrated into standard reporting tools. Microsoft Powerpoint and Word, for example, would allow it to replace Excel as a data analysis tool.

It is perfect for handling large amounts of data and I have replaced 80% of my Excel usage with Spotfire, while vastly increasing the efficiency and accuracy of my workflow. I have been very pleased with Spotfire.

I think Spotfire is a good product, and we'll continue to use it. It is expensive relative to other competitors, and a successful launch will require internal support (support from the company, not just support from Spotfire). Therefore, I don't think it's a good fit for smaller companies. However, it is a good tool for larger enterprises who have many data sources that users need to access to. The combination of Spotfire Server, Automation Services, and Web Player make it a powerful enterprise tool.

Sometimes data can be too much and the question has to be asked “why am I analyzing this”. Those in education sometimes prefer the “less is more” approach and Spotfire allows for both less and more. The capabilities of the program are amazing but can be overwhelming for some.

Spotfire is perfect when you need to make a fast deploy to provide information with very good reports. It's very cost effective and high - performance.
