Spotfire works well for handling everything from simple to highly complex and large datasets. Geospatial data works especially well, as the geospatial analytics capability afforded by Spotfire is second to none. We have migrated many workflows that were previously performed in Excel using pivot tables to within Spotfire. This has enabled us to increase efficiently and capability when analyzing new data.

In my work, the ability to combine engineering, geology, and economics into one platform is powerful. In my role in A&D, I use existing dashboards that I've created to quickly get up to speed in a new basin or play as I can quickly look at where the best wells are, the best operators, and also why (completions, economies of scale, concentrated land base, own facilities, etc.). If I were to do this the "old" way, it would take weeks rather than hours or days.

Suitable Key questions to buy/use Spotfire: Do you have an enterprise data warehouse ready and are looking for a BI tool which can get you results fast with less development? Do you have a group of analyst who are good at Excel type reporting and can learn a new tool and do better reporting? Do you have a group of data analysts who want to study data to identify patterns in it? Are you looking for a tool/technology company which takes customer feedback and incorporates them into the tool quickly? Are you looking for a tool whose tech forum is increasing? Apart from the above questions, if your team has basic programming skills , they can utilize the power of Java Script/Iron Python and R language to make wonders in spotfire. Ideally any scenario is possible in Spotfire, but do not consider this as data Transformation tool, basic transformations are possible ,but typically its a reporting tool which can tell the story of your data effectively. My purpose to use the software is short development cycles sometimes overnight if data is there.

It is recommended for any size, as it can be a recipient of data usage for better decision-making. Spotfire is independent of the industry these companies serve. It is extremely easy to build a new Spotfire dashboard being a powerful development platform to create reports and dashboards. With the features it offers, developers can implement highly customized dashboards.

We use Spotfire to display data for management. Management often needs information presented in different forms. In meetings with them, they will often ask for data to be arranged in contrasting modes and Spotfire allows for this to be done seamlessly and on the fly.

We use it more for data virtualization areas, it is less appropriate for Business analytical purposes. We are highly using the Spotfire’s contextual collaboration capabilities which uniquely support our natural decision-making process—from spontaneous. A formalized workflow through a new level

Scenarios, where Spotfire is well sited, are 1. Data visualization at the enterprise level, to generate in-depth insights 2. Generate reports, charts, or graphs to represent insights in the most efficient way. 3. Plethora of apps are bundled to get analyzed results. 4. Supports a lot of languages so no need to be restricted by language boundary. 5. It supports a variety of users for example end-users, Statisticians or developers, or just business personnel to get an insight into the ecosystem. Places where Spotfire seems to be less appropriate: 1. It's quite cumbersome if the data feed is from a vast number of regions. 2. When a lot of customization seems to be a frequent call.

Spotfire is well suited for data analysis and visualization - importing data and making it available to others on the team. It's a fine product, it's just more expensive and harder to manage than its competitors.

I think Spotfire would be very useful for a new user who is getting into data visualization. But it’s not a great tool if you want to do [anything] really complicated - need visualization experiments or dashboards. I think Tableau is a lot better. It is a lot easier and more visually appealing.

Spotfire is a more capable analytics tool than Tableau or PowerBI, for example. It makes analysis accessible to non-analytics users and augments Excel well. It also blends data very well. The learning curve is a little steeper but otherwise it best suited for analytics professionals looking to provide visualizations to their work.

As I described in the first question, I am a long friend of Spotfire. I believe that the user experience is excellent, and that students pick it up quickly. The students in our program are all working professionals in various business and health care fields and often have experience with other visualization tools. After using Spotfire in several assignments, the comments are always positive and generally ask for more time in the course with Spotfire. Many of the charts that they had difficulty creating in with other tools, such as a Parallel Coordinate Chart, are straightforward in Spotfire. This makes a big impression.

Spotfire is great for sharing data analysis internally between power users and report viewers. It is my go-to tool for data exploration. It might be less appropriate for multiple users working on the same project at the same time. There may be better tools for supporting external users, as deployment can take effort.

It's less appropriate if data is not set for performance. If the data table is not set to be rows, but more columns, it is a pain to use it on Spotfire. It behaves excellently if data load fast enough. It can manage itself as a stand-alone platform but can also be integrated with others. One visualization of one variable to analyze, this is the rule on Spotfire visualizations. More than that, most of the time, is not possible.

It is ideal for situations where you are pulling together multiple datasets and integrating them into one visualization. It does fall a bit flat for working with more than two Y-Axis sets on combination tables, where Excel is better at displaying that type of information.

It also should allow users to manually adjust the vertical axis scale as there may be reasoning in modifying it to a smaller or larger range but maintaining the same data step.

It would be ideal to enhance the ability to sort data. For example, there are instances where you want to sort data in a stacked bar chart by something other than count or alphabetically.

Spotfire is perfectly suited for the data scientist and the financial analyst who is willing to go beyond simple accounting visuals. The data scientists get the entire range of job responsibilities, from data exploration to final model building to visualization. The financial analyst with a more technical background gets the ability to present financial data in a more unique way.

For mapping and geospatial analysis, Spotfire is top-notch. While it does not have all of the capabilities of a complete GIS program, it does allow you to create beautiful looking maps from your data without much time or effort. It is easy to share and publish these maps so that we can use them in our reporting, marketing, etc.

The tool is well suited for data analysts or business analysts who only have been using Excel or VBA for data analysis. On the other hand, the tool is not as good as R or Python which have much better analysis capabilities.

Well suited for the following scenarios: KPI dashboard design -- It is very helpful in designing dashboards which highlight KPIs showing data in different forms and visualizations. Multi-page layout -- For scenarios where the data is supposed to be viewed in different pages, Spotfire can help. Slicing and dicing data to view different pivots -- Spotfire can show the data in various ways which helps in creating custom KPIs and visualization. Not well suited for the following scenarios: Flashy UI -- Spotfire does not have the design features or customization to use complex or flashy UI features. Larger datasets -- Spotfire has lagged performance when used with extremely large datasets.
