What is Time Doctor?

Time Doctor offers in-depth productivity analytics, giving business owners insight on how to improve performance and scale.

Going beyond tracking and monitoring, Time Doctor’s suite of tools put data-driven improvement front and center, helping to ensure that teams of all sizes are actively working on the right things while also offering actionable insights to maximize performance and efficiency. Time Doctor tracks the collective hours a team puts in. But it also provides a detailed breakdown of the time spent on each project, client, or task, down to the second. This helps executives gain a better understanding of how time is invested, validating the time allocated to each activity and project. This data is not only vital for accurate client billing but also indispensable for maintaining precise payroll records.

Workday analytics are presented through dashboards, and over eight analytic reports and premium features that showcase productivity indicators. This includes web and app usage, daily timelines, projects and tasks, as well as productive and unproductive time.

Leaders can identify top performers, inefficient processes and unhealthy behaviors to improve performance and morale. What’s more, every team member can use these analytics to identify their own strengths and weaknesses to pinpoint where improvements can be made.

Time Doctor ultimately aims to bring clarity to the user's workday, helping to ensure that every minute of the workday is accounted for and optimally used.

I am a freelancer and consultant and use time doctor to track time and bill clients. It is used for thus personal and professional reasons. It addresses the business problem of: lack of time accountability. As a freelancer, I often get paid per project, so it is much more efficient to see how long a specific project takes because I can deduce what the pay rate actually was.
  • Easy to use.
  • Customer Service.
  • Groups and tracks time by project.
  • Sends reports of time worked via email.
  • Perhaps the price point for individuals.
It is useful for consultants, freelancers, solopreneurs, and those managing online teams.

I started with Time Tracking using the Freelancer.com built in tracking but Time Doctor is vastly superior and I use it to track my own time and that of subcontractors who work on the development of my website at heart-is.co.uk. I love it because I'm a bit of a nerd for tracking things, I use Fitbit for my steps and sleep tracking for example.
  • Screenshots are excellent.
  • Being able to break time down into tasks is very useful.
  • Reports and analysis are great at the end of each week.
  • I'd like to see more whole life tracking for example being able to put sleep hours in but not have that on a work report etc.
  • When tracking 3 people I'd like 3 different screenshots streams 1 for each person at the moment they are combined into 1 stream.
I use it for tracking remote workers and it's excellent.

I use Time Doctor to manage how long it takes me to do projects for my clients. The main problem I had was I didn't know how long it was taking me to do certain jobs and in turn I had not been billing my clients properly and effectively losing money on labour.
  • Manages my time
  • Helps with project management
  • Helps me bill more effectively
  • Manage my time without clicking a button
  • Stop constantly notifying me when I am not using it
  • Less popping up on the screen
Well suited for time management

[It's] currently used by our department that has multiple roles/clients or projects. Those with single projects or tasks are not yet using it. It helps to charge clients for the time used on their account and hold staff accountable to the work.
  • Tracking time
  • Monitoring staff work ethic
  • Cost as you scale. It doesn't provide enough functionality for the cost (I can't remove another piece of SAAS software).
It would work well with call centers, but with on the road staff not so much.

We use it in 2 areas. First, to track time consultant's use when working on customer projects. Secondly to track time that freelancers spend working for my company.
  • Automatically starts recording. So time is accounted for.
  • Be able to allocate time to projects.
  • Produce time sheets for users.
  • Be able to have a task tagging system or multiple categories so I can track categories of time in different ways at the same time.
Time doctor is well suited if you wish to enforce compliance of time recording.

Time Doctor is used by the whole organization to track the login and log out time, to check their productivity and to handle payroll of every employee. It is being used by our sales and lead generation department. Time doctor addresses the concerns of how to track individual performances and how to accurately pay employees based on their work hours.
  • Helps in accurately paying employees based on their work hours.
  • Helps in tracking individual performance.
  • Increases productivity of each employee.
  • To be able to provide an option for mass payouts using other payment methods.
  • To be able to provide a 1099 form.
Time doctor is well suited to address payroll and attendance tracking concerns. However, it is not well suited to address the effectiveness of an employee as it is unable to gauge the quality of work.

We have started using Time Doctor to track the team members work, and also because it offers integration with Asana, a task management tool used to assign tasks to members. We are small organization and all of us are using Time Doctor. We are assigning development tasks to the team members.
  • Keeps the developers focused on the tasks by taking screen shots from their workstations.
  • I hope to see integrations with some payment gateways, so the team payment can also be managed through Time Doctor
Best solution for time tracking so far.

It is used by the technical teams in our organisation to report on project time sheets. It mainly addresses the issue of time tracking for remote employees and it improves the productivity of the team while they are not in the workplace by allowing them to keep track of their work and delete non-productive work that was tracked.
  • Tracking time of remote employees is a breeze.
  • Even when there is poor connectivity or no connectivity, the use of time doctor enables positive reporting.
  • The flexibility in tracking time and monitoring productivity at the same time by giving control to the users to track their own time is genius.
  • The mobile app for owners/managers managing the team can have an overhaul.
  • The tracking app can have conditional alerts, example if I have facebook.com on a list, and when the user visits the site, it could pop-up that you are on a non-productive site.
It is suitable for teams where productivity is measured based on the time they put into the work, especially on a computer. It is not so applicable for remote teams that do both online work and offline work (non-computer work).

Time Doctor is helping us with our daily tasks that are integrated with Trello, and any task that requires time management. Time Doctor also helps us to improve our relationship with our small budget clients, sending to them detailed reports. We are still finding out more about integrations and possibilities. Combi Digital is a small boutique agency focused on WordPress, graphic design for small business and inbound marketing in Australia.
  • Tracking time
  • Reports
  • Integration with Trello
  • User interface
  • Client and tasks columns visualisation
  • Desktop popups deserve a better design
Websites development is a good one. I have not tried Time Doctor with more than 2 users yet, I don't know how easy would be to analyse and control the tool.

It is being used by the SEO and software development departments. It addresses the lack of task prioritization and time management problems. With the tool, we are able to track which tasks bring what kind of work load to the company. Plus, it is good to have the chance to see time issues project by project.
  • Daily check of timesheets and time use details given for each project
  • On a monthly basis having an overview of time use and project timing
  • Keep people on track - it is good to show the pop-up so that they are not distracted with social media or non-work related websites
  • API
  • Quicker, easier project addition to the panel
  • Better task management tools integration
I highly recommend Time doctor to other clients as well. Since it is good to have the chance to look for what the team is doing and how well the time is managed, Time Doctor brings the best result when compared to its competitors. A consultancy service is quite the fit for using the tool since there is hourly rating for its clients.

Time Doctor has been used to track time on email, time working on projects for my fitness and lifestyle coaching work, to apply for projects and professional roles and other tasks. Time Doctor provides me with a lot of feedback and awareness on where I'm focusing my time and energy. I use it as an individual.
  • One of Time Doctor's strengths is its simplicity. Simply start the timer and stop the timer easily, without unnecessary bells and whistles.
  • I appreciate Time Doctor's emails that let me know how I used my time for that day, and over the week as well.
  • While I love the simplicity, I know that there are a lot of features and functions available, should I ever want to utilize them.
  • The design could be cuter, and/or more modern.
  • There's something about the task list in the dashboard that I find a little clunky. I'm not sure why tasks are there, or when is a good idea to remove them. I'm sure there's a simple functionality and user how-to's in place there, but I haven't found it all that intuitive.
I think it's especially well suited for focused work, to work uninterrupted for a specific amount of time. I'd actually love if I could set it to gently *ping after a certain amount of time passed. Perhaps less useful for brainstorming or creative sessions. Though as I'm typing, it seems like it could be quite useful for both.

I just use it for myself to keep track of the tasks I work on and the time I work on them.
  • Easy to add tasks and projects
  • Easy to add manual time
  • Option to automatically run on startup and last task reminder popup ensures you don't forget to start the timer
  • More filters, sort, and search options with reports and ability to create custom reports
  • Ability to see active time spent editing or reading actual files with filenames shown, not just the application running them.
  • Ability to categorize or change instances of web and app usage to be labeled as productive or poor time use. Also ability to differentiate between work and personal productive time and be able to filter, sort, and search these in reports as well

We use Time Doctor to track everything. It's helpful to track billable time. We also use it to monitor education and training hours. The problems Time Doctor solves are quite extensive: it shows exactly how much time a project takes. So if we underestimate, now we know better. Second, it shows where time is fragmented or lost (via screen captures) so that helps us realize where we can be both more efficient and more effective.
  • Tracked time both macro (categories) and micro (down to the project and the tasks)
  • Reminded us when we went off task and got lured in via social media
  • Provides us with detailed reports to share with joint venture partners, clients and more
  • Navigation on the website: chunk the information into smaller categories so things won't be missed.
  • More graphical displays of time usage other than bar graphs
  • More tips on how to categorize time and how best to track it
Suited well for service-based industries where time tracking is essential for billing and revenue. It's also appropriate for both business and personal use. (For example, to track studying hours or education and training time. Less appropriate? Blue collar usage where the traditional time clock/timecard may still come into play.

I used Time Doctor for myself to record how long I spent on certain tasks. It goes very deep and has a lot of metrics to measure your work and also help you stay on task. It does have to be manually activated, though, so you can forget to activate it and do a bunch of work without recording any time. Also, its features can be overwhelming, especially if you just use it to record yourself and not an entire company's worth of time. A simplified version with a few essential measurements that are good for self-employed people would be very helpful.
  • Compartmentalizes tasks and projects
  • Accurately records what you're doing
  • Reminds you when you get off task
  • An option for a simplified interface focused on self-employed individuals would be helpful
  • An automatic "begin timer at system startup" option would help
Good for businesses with multiple employees, somewhat cumbersome for individuals.

I am using TimeDoctor by myself because my actual company doesn't offer any tool to control my productivity. My goal with that is to track my work hours integrated with Teamwork Project Management. I create the tasks in Teamwork, with a management view and track my hours, so I can justify all my activities to my manager.
  • Track your web navigation
  • Track the poor worked hours
  • Takes screenshots
  • Be able to parametrize how many hours a day is a work day and be able to split the normal hours with extra hours worked
  • A portable client
  • Review any past day worked on a client (mobile or desktop)
Time Doctor is excellent for tracking hours. Sometimes, I get confused when extracting some reports. For example, on the timesheet report, putting all the days side by side is a little bit confusing. It’d be great if the report can extract all hours in a calendar format, so I can improve my reports. I am not comfortable creating the tasks there, as I can not provide details in there or add any attachments.

I personally use Time Doctor to monitor my logged in out-of-office hours and to help my employer as well track my schedule.
  • Precise on clocking work time.
  • Excellent on figuring if the employee is on break when the computer/laptop is idle.
  • Detailed spreadsheet and work time reports.
  • I guess just on the time report sheet, it's already good as it is but I think it would be better if what is displayed on the user home page could also be seen as it is on the reports.
Time Doctor is very well suited for employees like me that work at home as it better monitors time with a legit source.

I keep track of my own time using Time Doctor. It is a sophisticated timer. I log my hours in Google Spreadsheets and biweekly email them to my leader.
  • Let's you time multiple projects in one day.
  • Emails you your times so you have them even if you didn't record them.
  • Has a widget in the top menu bar of your desktop that's easy to read whether it's on or off.
  • I wish I could tamper with when it asks me if I'm working. I find it annoying.
  • It could be prettier.
  • I like the floating progress bar, but when I use google inbox it's always in the way.
Time Doctor is great if you need to time how long you spend on different projects throughout the day. I am editing multiple books at once and I need to keep track of how long I spend on each one.

It is not worth it if you don't need to keep track of how long you spend on a large project. I find it too cumbersome to time individual tasks and not useful enough to time just one project.

I use Time Doctor to monitor my time spend per client. At the end of the week, I charge my client according to the time spent and I use the screenshots grab by Time Doctor as proof.
  • When working while using Time Doctor, it has a feature to remind me to focus on work when it detects my browser going to social media sites like Facebook.
  • TIme Doctor must have a feature for an independent professional wherein they can create an automated invoice that will be sent automatically to clients. It would save a lot of time.
If you want a quick fix on how to track your time and bill clients, Time Doctor is the best choice.

It assists with productivity, knowing exactly how much effective time there was during the course of a work period.
  • Ease of use.
  • It will remind you that you are on the clock if you stray to something other than what you started to do.

I use Time Doctor for myself. As a consultant, it's been helpful using Time Doctor to track my individual projects and also produce reports for invoicing my clients. It also is a motivator showing my actual productivity time instead of guessing the amount of time I worked on a tasks. It's a software I'd definitely recommend to consultants and those who have difficulty managing their time.
  • Managing tasks and projects. Especially good if you're handling multiple projects.
  • Reporting. Offers excellent overview of actual productivity time.
  • Access. Being able to access Time Doctor from my desktop and mobile device is convenient and a bonus that it also tracks time across multiple devices.
  • Not being able to edit or remove projects from the app instead of having to go to the desktop.
Suitable for consultants and individuals for time management and reporting. For companies, they have to rely on the individual user to be honest with their tasks and time usage recording in order to product accurate reports. I haven't tested it on a company-wide level yet so can't comment on its effectiveness.

I use TIme Doctor only for myself to check how my week productivity is. I can check how many hours a day I am really working and what kind of tasks consume more than others in order to do some optimisations.
  • Create differents tasks and switch between them in 2 clicks.
  • Connectivity with Atlassian JIRA.
  • You can combine projects and tasks or make them independent.
  • Editing time on a schedule if you miss to use the software while working.
  • When you forgot to pause Time Doctor, you have intuitive non-annoying popups asking you if you were still working or on a break.
  • If switching tasks could be done directly from taskbar it could be great, instead of opening Time Doctor window then switching task then closing it.
I will recommend it for self-employed people, it's a good and well-built tool.

I use Time Doctor for each work or sub-category of work, to be able to manage my time and to have a report, even in economic terms, of my work.
  • It helps me to better manage my time and my work.
  • The software interface is simple and unobtrusive while working. Adding a new project is fast.
  • Live updates from the software to the web interface to view the time taken for the various projects are very useful.
  • For now, Time Doctor has everything I was looking for, I use it daily and I feel good.

Time Doctor has been a lifesaver for me. I am a one-person design company and I need to track the time I spend on many different projects all at once. My previous solution was to write down the time on sticky notes or note pads, but there was always the chance that I might misplace it or lose it. Nor could I generate my invoices from my home office if I'd left the billing hours info at my office. So this was a great all in one solution. Now I can choose the task I'm working on and don't have to worry about writing things down. If for any reason I forget what I was doing for a client and didn't make my task name specific enough, I can go back and take a quick look through the automatic screenshots. I also love that I can see how much time I spend on email and other admin tasks vs the actual design work. Love the reports that Time Doctor gives me as well.
  • One click to choose projects and tasks you've already created so that you can quickly choose what you're working on and basically set it and forget it.
  • Automatic screenshots so that I can always reference back to what I was working on.
  • The reports! There are reports for every project and time use. Helps me see exactly where my time is going and how I can better maximize it.
  • One thing I would love to see is integration with my cell phone. Time Doctor already has an app, but I want it to automatically capture the time I spend on my phone with clients. For now I have to manually enter in this time and must note when the call started and when it ended.
  • Integration into Wave apps where I generate my invoices. I'd like to be able to select a project from Time Doctor in my invoice and have it automatically populate the time I spent on it and the dates I worked on the project rather than manually finding and entering this information.
Very well suited to freelancers or anyone who works on projects that must keep track of billable hours, especially when you have many projects going all at once.

I am an e-learning consultant and I work on a lot of different projects for a lot of different customers. Time doctor helps me to keep track of my productive time and it helps me to log the amount of time I spend per customer and by project. It also has a very good report function that I use when preparing my billing.
  • Because Time Doctor has a desktop app it helps me to organise my time usage. I can work on multiple projects for multiple customers in one day and I can log their time by just clicking on a task.
  • It provides me with a source of reassurance that my time is logged somewhere and that screen shots are taken from time to time. If there ever is a situation where a client wants to dispute the time that I spend on a project then I have some means of proving that I actually did work on the project.
  • It keeps me productive. Because it actually keeps track of the time I spend working I am much more productive. It also helps me with reminders if it picks up I might be busy with a task that is not work related.
  • It has very powerful reports that can be accessed online and the information can be exported to Microsoft Excel. This makes my life easier when I have to create invoices at the end of the month.
  • The desktop tool is easy to use and very effective, this is a huge plus for Time Doctor.
  • It would really help me a lot of I was able to generate a report from Time Doctor to show per project the amount of time I spent. Something like a PDF with the time doctor logo on it and the amount of time I spent per task per project. I would love to be able to download this and attach it to my invoices as proof of the amount of time I spent on a project.
  • I would love to have an option where I can add a client to a project. I work on multiple projects for one client and that means that I have to adapt time doctor so that I enter the project name in the 'Task' space of the desktop tracking tool and the client's name in the 'Project name' space. As I mention it there is a workaround for this but it would be nice if I can group projects by client as well.
It is obviously well suited for situations where your majority of work is on a computer because it keeps track of the amount of activity. It is less suitable for work that requires you to work off a PC but it has a very clever way of asking if you spent non-active time on a task or a project.

Time Doctor helps us track our time usage in an amazing way. We don't know how we worked without it.
  • Tracks time based on tasks from Asana (syncs to it and gets the full list).
  • Tracks the project that is being worked on so you can know how much work is done on a certain project and bill accordingly.
  • Has so many awesome advanced features but can be used with or without advanced features so it ends up as the perfect combination of simple to use but with lots of features.
  • Would love it if the UI was more sleek but the UX is very straightforward so it's not a big deal.
If you need any sort of time tracking - Time Doctor is the solution.
