We use Tivoli Identity Manager to create and modify our domain user accounts. The initial reason we purchased the product is that we used and still use a little bit some IBM AS/400 systems and we needed a way to synchronize the user passwords between our Windows Active Directory environment and the AS/400 systems and this fit the bill.
  • Easily create and manage user accounts from a web interface.
  • Intuitive GUI.
  • Sometimes it feels unresponsive and we have to restart the services.
It's probably really best suited if you have a business where you have disparate systems but need a way to synchronize the user account information including the passwords between them. If you just have a Windows Active Directory environment only, there probably is no real need for something like this, but if you do this will help manage them easily.

  • It has helped us all these years to not have to waste time managing users on multiple systems.
  • It controls our password policy for our domain.
Besides the random issue where it gets unresponsive and we have to restart the services or reboot the server, it's been really solid. I've only had to contact support 1 time in the 15 years I've used it which is saying more than most other software. The cost of maintenance is also very cheap compared to some of the other software we use.

We use Tivoli to help centralize access management across a large portal. This is vital for our business and the users. I enjoy that it allows developers more time to worry about their actual application and the potential features, rather than worrying about authentication work that needs to be done uniquely.
  • Fully customizable
  • Automate various portions of various applications
  • Great at Access Management (but also Release, Change, Event, etc)
  • Older versions are complex to install
  • The GUI isn't the best for an older product
  • Compatibility with server systems is troublesome at times
Well suited in terms of easy of deployment and scales best for enterprise applications. I'd say deployment is fast for SAM. Also great when a customer wants to handle Microsoft applications and other applications through TAI and GSO feature. It's a more friendly solution to install now, but you need some smart guys on the team.
  • Single sign on and web-threat protection
  • Cutting down time to enter multiple usernames and passwords
  • Cutting support call times across multi apps
I haven't used anything but Tivoli in this space.
