TotalView and PathSolutions are essential tools for network management and troubleshooting. Users have found TotalView to be a valuable scheduling tool for managing employee demand and availability, allowing them to easily organize and access client data to troubleshoot account issues. Additionally, the payroll automation feature benefits work groups by enabling sellers to update information from their mobile devices. TotalView's capabilities are not limited to scheduling, as it also helps in predicting call volume and adjusting staffing accordingly. Furthermore, TotalView is effective in identifying and suggesting possible causes for performance problems.

On the other hand, PathSolutions is primarily used for providing network assessments to customers, reducing assessment time and providing valuable data for issue identification. Its comprehensive network scanning capabilities and customizable tests allow users to quickly deploy and retrieve network diagnostic information. Network engineers rely on PathSolutions TotalView for network trend data and troubleshooting purposes, while junior level engineers can use the tool to assess basic issues and receive guidance on corrective actions. Moreover, PathSolutions TotalView offers complete visibility for troubleshooting network issues and provides explanations in plain English, making it an invaluable resource in mapping out networks and assisting with various network-related tasks.

Easy to Navigate: Many users found TotalView to be easy to navigate and appreciated the tabbed client attributes, which made it easy to view and compare team availability and time off. The intuitive interface allowed them to quickly find the information they needed without any confusion or hassle.

Best in Class Ease of Use: Users loved the ease of use of TotalView, stating that it surpassed all its competitors in terms of usability. They praised its user-friendly design and straightforward functionality, noting that even new team members could quickly onboard and start using the software without any extensive training.

Seamless Integration with SAP: TotalView's seamless integration with SAP was highly praised by users, as it allowed for effective workforce management and eliminated the need for manual tracking. This integration streamlined their processes and ensured accurate data syncing between systems, saving them time and effort in managing their workforce effectively.

Sluggish Performance: Some users have experienced occasional sluggishness in the loading between tabs, which affects the overall performance of the software.

Limited Network Diagram Functionality: Users have mentioned that the network diagram feature only displays layer 3 connections and does not show all discovered devices. Additionally, they find it limiting that the discovery mechanism is restricted to IP ranges, making it difficult to discover additional devices.

Inconvenient Agent Schedule Management: Several reviewers have found adding or adjusting agent schedules to be tedious, with small icons causing inconvenience. They also noted that there are instances where the predictions for call volume are extremely skewed.

TotalView is being used for network trend data for the specific purpose of troubleshooting. It is used exclusively by the team of network engineers to address problems. It allows senior level guys to gather data quickly for complex issues (otherwise gained from CLI as a manual process) and junior level guys to quickly assess basic issues and get direction from within the tool with explanations of issues and corrective actions.
  • The setup is fast and easy - 500 devices in 20 minutes.
  • The ability to go back a day or a week in time allows us to more easily troubleshoot the "what happened at 3 a.m. yesterday" question.
  • It gives us easily accessible stats for checks and balances like device types, counts, models, serial number etc.
  • Customization can be difficult to achieve - although well documented and support is willing to help.
  • Some configuration steps are cumbersome but strides have been made to fix that in recent years.
  • Automation and discovery of devices aren't the easiest to do, it is one of the short comings. While it is achievable it's not as up front as other tools
This tool is well suited for data gathering and analytics to troubleshoot and fix issues. This is not meant to be used as a monitoring and alerting solution, although it does have capabilities to do some monitoring/alerting. This tool's strength is the fast and easy setup as well as the data it gathers and how it presents it.

  • There is certainly an increased saving of time when dealing with issues - troubleshooting time is at least 75% less for basic issues.
The three tools listed do different things with some similarities. For us the biggest need was data analysis, semi-automatic troubleshooting, and data gathering and topology mapping. TotalView hit the most of these in the price point we were looking for. Each tool has "extras," but we felt that the extras provided by TotalView were good enough and that the other tools didn't justify the cost.

We use TotalView to monitor our entire network infrastructure to include all: routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
  • Simple, intuitive interface.
  • Support Team is great.
  • New features being added all the time.
  • I don't have any complaints or suggestions right now.
TotalView is suited to teams that monitor networks and need to respond, in advance, to end user issues. It also provides a history of details tracked, that would normally take several cost prohibitive pieces of software to track.

Currently, TotalView is being used as a network management tool that allows for a concise and consolidated location to view important network diagnostic information. This product is being used by my department within the hospital to troubleshoot issues ranging from bandwidth consumption on a per-interface level to monitor VoIP calls via our Shoretel phone system. Additionally, TotalView provides a quick view of our configured products Model #, Manufacturer, Serial # and the current version of Software running.
  • In-depth device interface performance
  • Daily Utilization with a historical view
  • Call Assessment and VoIP phone monitoring
  • I currently do not have any cons with the software - PathSolutions support is phenomenal.
TotalView is well suited for an infrastructure where you are looking for a cost-effective, additive network management tool for in-depth device diagnostic information. This will not be a one-stop shop application, but it does what is advertised very well. SNMP is required for configuration and adding additional devices is quick and simple. This product also works well with Shoretel VoIP systems and allows for a full overview of connected phones along with being able to view calls on an extension/IP basis.

Our IT Department uses TotalView for Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting. Due to its many features, we are starting to use TotalView to replace other higher-cost tools that we use for similar purposes. It gives us great visibility into the quality of our network performance, down to the switch-port level, and enables us to quickly identify deficiencies in link quality. Also, we can get a look back in time to pull metrics from reports of issues that may have occurred earlier in the day or week.
  • Probably the best value I have ever seen in a network monitoring product.
  • Phenomenal customer service and support.
  • Features galore!
  • If you have some complexities in your network addressing, the network diagram tool will lay everything out automatically, but it will be confusing to look at. There is a way to edit the diagram so it looks more intuitive, but it may require some time to edit everything the right way.
  • TotalView will count virtual interfaces such as voice dial-peers and service modules as "ports," which counts against your license count. However, there is a way to edit each device to remove these "false positives" so it doesn't suck up licenses, but it can take some time to clean those up.
We can use TotalView to alert on up/down and link quality metrics easily. We can give our Service Desk custom permissions to view the network diagram and the map tools to quickly see where there is a "red" link, which could indicate a quality issue that we can proactively address. There are also very handy tools that help us to identify router interfaces, which may be accidentally set to half-duplex, or there is a QoS issue that may be impacting voice quality. New features also allow us to push network config to multiple devices. Totalview really excels in giving us the ability to be proactive about network problems, and is now adding features that are allowing us to replace other, more expensive tools.
  • Faster turnaround on network troubleshooting frees up Administrator time for other efforts.
  • Significant cost saving is going to allow us to free us some budget, especially after replacing other tools.
TotalView can either completely replace most of these products today, has a limited ability to replace these products today, or has a planned feature add in an upcoming version that will allow us to replace the product in the near future -- all at a much lower cost.
