We currently use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* in the creation of our newsletter. It's used both internally and externally with our donors and other prospects. I'm currently the only user at our organization but we hope to use it more widely within our marketing and communications department in the future in studying trends related to other foundations and non-profits.

  • Cision Communications Cloud is good at identifying articles related to my organization, including issues we address and people related to those issues.
  • Cision Communications Cloud groups articles into categories which allow me to easily compose our Newsletter and group related articles together for the people who read it.
  • I had a conference call with Cision (TrendKite) staff and they created dashboards for me to query on the different articles I want to include in my newsletter. It makes the process a lot easier easier.
  • I would like for my dashboards to include articles by specific publications that I included in my newsletter before I started using Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)*.
  • I would like to be able to somehow exclude articles I've used in past newsletters. I don't always remember them and need to go back to past newsletters to make sure I don't include past articles.
  • I would like to exclude articles from the last newsletter I sent without manually removing all the tags.
I currently only use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* in composing my newsletter and feel it's well suited for that purpose because of the query function through dashboards and also because of how it groups articles together. I feel it is limited when it comes to specific publications. But I feel that working closely with Cision / TrendKite staff will help me figure out a solution to what may be limiting the process.

  • The onboarding customer experience and account management from Cision (TrendKite)* was super friendly and efficient

  • Our product has very specific search terms and it took some time to get our search queries working perfectly and removing the irrelevant mentions

  • The customer care and help functions inside the Cision Communications Cloud dashboard works really well. We normally receive answers within minutes.
  • Requests for new dashboards and updates are entered a few days after asking.
  • Sidelink content was the main issue we faced when creating useful dashboards.
  • The PR attribution part is not 99% accurate.
Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is well suited for discovering your main PR partners. Cision is, in my opinion, not distinctive in its monitoring functionality. The reason we chose Cision as our monitoring and intelligence partner is because of the PR attribution.

With a portfolio of several well-known travel brands in over 40 countries, it used to be a challenge to keep track of all PR coverage and at the same time not miss out on what are the hot topics the travel industry is talking about.

  • Cision quantifies our PR impact and helps the team to optimize the PR strategy.
  • Cision analytics are the data basis to strategically shape our SEO-friendly PR approach.
  • Cision allows us to easily get an overview of what other travel brands are doing.
  • Cision is very strong in detecting coverage for our brands that operate in the English-speaking market, but it struggles with other languages e.g. Spanish.
  • Cision also does not always get the international media right. So sometimes coverage is missing or top media is categorized as a blog (which we filter out by default).
If the dashboards and searches are properly set up, you should find it easy to create nice reports that are easy to understand and updated automatically. However, if your brand name is an actual word in the local language, it takes a lot of time to remove articles, but this is a general problem of these kinds of tools.

  • Comparing coverage month to month and year over year.
  • Capturing data in several different ways.
  • Cision is not comprehensive in capturing results.
  • It is cumbersome to enter articles that Cision misses.
  • Sometimes there is too much data when you're only looking for something specific.
Cision Communications Cloud does well in providing different ways you can capture and categorize data, which is really useful for reports. I like the social media influencer data, which is also very helpful. I would not depend solely on TrendKite to capture all articles. For example, I also use Google alerts, which sometimes found articles that Cision Communications Cloud did not pick up.

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to monitor press coverage, measure results, and compile relevant reporting within the Global Communications department. It saves significant time and labor costs, bringing forth KPIs and allowing us to better quantify efforts that are otherwise difficult to measure.

  • Daily updates; minor but super helpful as it brings same-day press to my attention I may otherwise miss, all without logging into the platform.
  • Customer support is super quick and attentive to all inquiries.
  • Quick tools. It's super difficult to navigate the platform in search of very simple information that I expect is readily available, just for some reason does not appear readily accessible. If I want to look for a specific article's or outlet's impressions etc (as the team often does), there should be a search bar I can easily input the title of the article or website and find the article along with its writer, impressions, etc. - all within 10 seconds.
  • Organization of the platform. Same as above. I feel my dashboards could be better organized; by year, month, category, and so forth. At this time, I number the months to keep them in order and it's overwhelming. There's no real organization. YoY, MoM, brand vs brand, I would love everything to be better categorized from an organizational standpoint. Again, Cision Communications Cloud is just honestly pretty stressful to navigate, from my perspective, and it deters me from using it unless necessary.
  • Filtering articles. Still, articles on "Bumble" (the app) are filtered in despite inputting specific criteria.
Great for measuring results, and I love the fact I can export data via excel to better tailor them to our needs/ report formatting. I also think it's helpful when searching for new/relevant editors speaking on a specific topic. However, it's just not the easy 1-2-3 search engine I wish it were; whether searching for an editor or a topic or outlet. I think there's great room for improvement in terms of UX.

Next step should be to 'link' it up to our social Media platforms, so that our reporting is even more complete.

  • Best thing is not actually the platform or Cision, but the people behind it. They are available it seems ALL THE TIME, so if you forget how to quickly retrieve something it is very easy to get in contact with any of the customer service people and they all seem to have the same high level of experience and knowledge with the platform.
  • Interface usability - has the essentials and doesn't really let you get lost. There's room for improvement, of course, but all in all it's very straight forward.
  • Being able to see the geographical scale of the news, by importance and geographical areas. That notion and vision is very important for ANY business that sells beyond borders.
  • Limitless reports, to fit your every stake and shareholder needs - that can be replicated just by changing the dates - so you don't have to do a new one each time.
  • Specific Stake and Shareholder summary reporting examples: Cision has a lot of data and many times the question is more 'how to present' the data than the data itself. For that, it would be great (especially for professionals with fewer years of experience) to have some guidelines. For instance, if by answering 3-5 questions, like what is the main point you want to make of this report, who is your audience, etc, a report example would be suggested :-)
  • USER INTERFACE: has room for improvement, graphically and also when it comes to getting quick queries answered 'in your palm', through a mobile app, for instance, instead of always having to login through your computer.
Any business that prides itself in building, maintaining and growing its knowledge in the market, brand and reputation should look into Cision Communications Cloud. Any business needs to look at market trends and movements as well - Cision is key for that, also in the cases where you are a company that is involved (actively or passively) in mergers and / or acquisitions, new business streams, unprecedented opportunities.

It was being used by only the Marketing Communications Department. We used it to monitor what was going on in the media, as it pertained to our organization and industry, as well as our competitors. It helped us see who/what publications were talking about us and publishing news related to us, including our press releases.

  • The cost was way too high for what it was. Other similar software was less than half the cost.

  • Sometimes unrelated, non-relevant articles were included. Other times, relevant ones were missed.
Well suited for a large organization that has an abundance of money to spend on their media monitoring. Not well suited for an organization like mine, where we have a decent budget, but don't want to unnecessarily spend extra money on something that we can get elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.

We use Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to monitor our clients' press coverage in South-East Asia. It has proved a very user-friendly tool, with good ergonomics that also allows us to extract information in a convenient and elegant way. It facilitates sharing this information with our clients. We're very happy with the tool and learn more about it everyday. It's being used by our account servicing and project management departments in SEA only for the moment.

Well suited for projects with high coverage either in terms of titles covering or size of the company/subject being covered. Very useful when and where you need to collect a vast amount of data quickly and efficiently. Less appropriate, yet still satisfying, for more tailor-made/niche projects where the specificities of titles or platform targeted will not work as best as it could.

  • Tracking and alerting media output that might reflect on brand
  • Flexible output for reports to leadership
  • Easy to use tracking and reporting
  • Easy to customize output for my own use
  • Easy to share reports, searches and other information with communicators across the country
  • The campaign feature helps me organize media hits and that allows me to provide more accurate targeting.
  • For some reason the Newsletter feature is hidden under the Alert category but, knowing that I use it weekly to inform leadership about our media interactions
  • The search feature required a significant amount of effort to learn. Developing a plain language search method or employing AI might make it easier to use.
Tracking media output is critical for brand management. During disasters I use Cision Communications Cloud for real time alerts. Likewise, Cision Communications Cloud makes my life easier when it comes to tracking specific campaigns or when creating quarterly reports. Most importantly, when a negative comment is made I can respond quickly and confidently based on information I get from Cision.

It is being used by part of my ad agency. We use it to monitor our client and their competitors. We build newsletters using the tag feature and update the client on a weekly and monthly basis regarding their share of voice against competitors.

  • Adding articles not found in Cision Communication Cloud's initial search is very easy.
  • Newsletters are very easy to build.
  • The Cision (TrendKite)* team is very responsive to emails, calls, and questions that we might have.
  • Always be improving the algorithm. Some articles not relating to client always make it through that need to be cleaned out manually. I know it is the nature of the algorithm, but it is always something to improve.
  • Newsletters do not summarize total view for the date range. It would be very useful if every tag totaled the metrics for the specified date range on newsletters.
  • I have to log on twice for some reason. My computer remembers my passwords, I log in to Cision Communications Cloud, it says there was an error, then when I log into Cision again it works. Not sure if you can fix that but it would be appreciated.
It is great at monitoring several sets of data. For example, a client and competitors domestic and international coverage. If an agency has multiple clients, it will be great for setting up separate dashboards for each.

The newsletters are very easy to create, read, and send to the clients.

We use TrendKite to help report on our client's ROI for public relations efforts. A key service of ours is media relations, so TrendKite helps us track all media mentions, estimated media impressions, estimated media value and more. One of its most powerful tools is the Share of Voice, which is a great option for our larger clients who want to understand their position against key competitors and other industry leaders.

  • Creating clean reports pulling data from each dashboard
  • Aggregating all details into one, clean dashboard
  • Media impressions are often significantly lower than they should be, as we use other tools to pull comparative #s and notice how drastically low TK's are.
  • Similarly, ad values can be skewed, so we've developed a formula that we use when we feel #s aren't accurate.
  • Could benefit from even more customizable reports.
If you manage a brand, particularly their media relations and online/digital presence, TrendKite is a great tool to help manage that. It cuts down on time spent monitoring media through personal searches and other tools, and instead you can manage it all in one place. Extra options for pulling reports, customizing competitor search, building press lists even, are more reasons TrendKite has been so valuable to our firm.

We were longtime customers of Vocus. When they were acquired by Cision we stayed with them. I lead with great content, then the best distribution channel for the specific audience I am looking to serve. Post acquisition Vocus’s media database became extremely expansive. We serve a hyper fragmented market, so we stayed laser focused despite how much greater their media database had become. But it is great to have the option, for those times when we seek broader coverage.
  • Easy to use! Simplicity wins adoption every time.
  • Access to media advisories we could not reach elsewhere.
  • Tracking metrics and reporting intelligence is extremely important in every campaign. Timely and accurate!
  • Expensive! We suggest lowering the price, and layering value-added features from there. We just don’t need full capabilities every time.
It is great for highly targeted, unique audience PR/comm. It is also great for strategic communications to a broader audience, when your company is seeking such a strategy. Overall, it’s a bit pricey and has us considering other options.

I monitor when Rutgers Business School (RBS) faculty are quoted in news articles, write pieces, and when RBS is mentioned. I report monthly on the significant sources, thereby showing the currency, relevancy, and expertise of our faculty. In years past, on different platforms, I used to total the number of mentions and compare to the previous period. However with the increase to approximately 85% of sources adopting a subscription model in the past five years, I can no longer see most of the instances. I now report on the quality of the source rather than the quantity. This works fine. Reporting quotes and articles in fewer "tier 1" sources is more meaningful than reporting hundreds more repeats of the same mention in sources of which we've never heard.

  • Daily email reports provide quick and easy skimming and posting media mentions on the RBS "In the News" webpage
  • Unlimited customizable dashboards and saved searches allow me to tailor reports
  • The support is outstanding. OK, it took many tries and actually a different tech support to understand and correct my search string that looked for "faculty name" AND "Rutgers Business School" and missed every instance when the article only said the faculty member works at Rutgers. But now I'm happy.
  • The interactive reports (for example) show a line graph of monthly total mentions, and when I hover my cursor over the point, the number of mentions shows. It would really be helpful if I could have all the labels show at the same time.
Good for reporting names or other key terms in media sources. While the interactive reports look terrific, senior leadership has no time to spend looking at them. I use the information to create simple PPT slides or other pages that can be printed and skimmed quickly on the way to the next meeting.

It is particularly well-suited for showing media competitive share of voice and performance over time. It's perhaps less suited to showing market analytic data and drawing a direct line between advertising spending and media coverage.

Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is being used by the PR department, and the some of the data from Cision Communications Cloud is also viewed by our C-suite. Regarding PR, we use it to see which media outlets write about us the most, what topics are most popular, how many people visit Bulletproof.com and the Bulletproof blog after reading a article about us, and much more. After the PR department analyzes this data, we then draft insights about what the PR department is doing right/wrong depending on how the data fluctuates from month-to-month. We also use this data to determine what topics we will pitch out to media depending on which ones Cision Communications Cloud shows as most popular.

We show some Cision data to our C-suite so they know how effective the PR department is with its efforts.

  • Cision Communications Cloud does a great job of presenting the data in a digestible format. I enjoy evaluating the bar graphics and other table formats.
  • Cision Communications Cloud does a great job of providing all the information one would need to evaluate the efficacy of an organizations PR efforts.
  • Cision's (TrendKite's)* customer service help is AMAZING. They are so helpful and will go above and beyond to solve a problem.
  • Unfortunately, Cision Communications Cloud is very slow at times, sometimes hard to navigate and buggy. This is extremely frustrating and compromises user experience.
  • I feel like Cision's search option is hard to use and makes it more difficult than it should be to find an article that you want to locate. Also, a lot of the time an article that I want to locate won't even pop up in Cision. I have to ask the customer service representatives to manually add it. It would be okay if this was a rare occurrence, but it happens on a weekly basis.
  • Cision provides great data, but I find that it changes occasionally. For example, sometimes social shares for a month will change even when that month has passed! I could view June social shares on two different dates during the month of July, and the June social shares could be slightly different each time I view it. I don't understand how that can happen I'm viewing total shares during the month of July and the month of June has already passed.
Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* is well-suited for analyzing broad, over-arching metrics of PR efficacy. It allows PR professionals to use data to quantify their worth to C-suite professionals who may be skeptical of the need of PR. It allows us to come off polished and really show how our efforts benefit the company. However, I wish it was easier to find articles that mention the brand without having to scroll through total mentions. Also, the search option is difficult to use.

  • Very good chat functionality; you can always get quick help when needed.
  • The interactive reports that can be easily shared with non-users is a good feature.
  • Easy to quickly set up a dashboard in a crisis situation or whenever time is an important factor.
  • Export functionality could be improved; ideally it should be possible to schedule automatic exports and should have more possibilities on how the output .csv file is formatted. Would be great if it was possible to export directly to .xls format to not have to deal with importing and formatting .csv files.
  • Social shares data is very unreliable and not really anything that can be used since it’s not updated automatically. It requires that you hover over each individual article to trigger an update—not feasible when you have hundreds of articles to update.
  • The Knowledge Center should be improved. A doc containing all operators that can be used in Boolean queries and how to use them would be very helpful.
Good for quickly setting up a dashboard for media monitoring in, e.g., a crisis situation. Good for YoY comparison for Share of Voice since it’s easy to choose any date range. Less appropriate for accurate media coverage in non-US and non-English countries. It feels a bit too US focused.

We started using Cision to replace a PR firm and bring PR activities in-house. It helps us track and quantify our PR coverage and impact in a meaningful way.

  • Tracking and providing alerts on media coverage in a flexible, comprehensive way.
  • Helps quantify the impact media is having on our business and provide insights on trends in that impact.
  • Helps us find the right media and influencers who are covering our space.
  • The improvements to the media lists, particularly in sharing media lists with colleagues, has been valuable, but it would be great to allow multiple people to update those shared lists, not just the person who created the list.
  • Streamline the trending reporting. Right now you have to create multiple widgets in a dashboard with different timeframes in order to see changes over time. You should be able to look at and update different timeframes for metrics in the same widget.
  • The Coverage report should allow you to adjust how many articles you see at a time. Right now it defaults to 12 and so you have to click on the next page to see another batch of 12 results.
I have already recommended Cision Communications Cloud (TrendKite)* to multiple peers and other marketers. Cision Communications Cloud is well suited to companies and marketing groups that are looking to streamline their PR efforts (outreach, tracking, reporting, etc), quantify those efforts, and providing an easy way to communicate to other parts of the organization the impact PR is having.

  • Boolean searches for topics. Most of the tools are intuitive and effective
