We use Twillio for 2FA and also customer service touch point messages. Our site handles thousands of 2FA requests per day and a large number of sms Customer Success messages. We have used Twillio for over 3 years.
  • The API is well documentated and easy to get up and running
  • The service is reliable
  • The service is fast and effective
  • Customer Care is poor in my experience. They begin most customer issues by turning your service off. It takes a long time to get connected to the right person to fix your problem
  • I feel the worst team at Twillio is the 'Compliance' department. They are the epitomy of Success Prevention.
  • I believe Billing is ridicoulous - Be ready to see your business accounts spammed with hundreds of small one off payments making your normal business accounts unreadable.
Great Technology Weak TeamWhen we started using Twilio 4 years ago, it was the clear leader in terms of API capability and integration into our web facing aps. Sadly every touch point that requires interaction with a person to resolve is a sad 'success prevention' in my experience. To give you some example of how you will be treated if you decide to use their service, be ready to learn about simple problems by seeing your account throttled to uselessness as their first measure followed by an email telling you they have done it and then expect 2-5 days of trying to find a person who can actually get things back up and running. If you don't expect to need to interact with the Twilio team, then I would say this is the product for you! But if you think customer service might be needed occasionally I would run away from them as fast as possible.

Marketing email campaigns - sending to over 40,000 customers
  • To me, their spam testers seem good
  • and drag and drop editors
  • flexibility with custom fields etc
  • In my opinion, their support is terrible
  • I think their systems are broken in multiple places ( especially around support )
I cannot believe that a company this size can be so incompetent. I worked through transferring my contacts ( 40,000+) from a competitor. I had several emails back and forth with them because of technical issues with adding people to the unsubscribe list. We spent a long time setting it up and then I sent the campaign. They stopped it after sending 9,000 emails saying there is "unusual activity in your account". There was no unusual activity - they are all legit. I contacted them via support ticket. They open my support ticket each time I sent it ( I can track their emails) - but they don't reply. I cannot contact them via chat online because it's broken and I cannot even create another ticket because "something went wrong". Unbelievable frustrating and incompetent. What sort of system is this? I believe I will be changing again shortly.

We use Sendgrid to send high-volume email marketing campaigns that are automated in nature. Its reports and analytics help us keep track of deliverability and email performance. Its template library is a widely used feature in my organization.
We chose Sendgrid in place of Mailchimp because of the robust reporting and the integrations it offers. Needless to say, it offers one of the best data security in the market.
  • Helps send bulk emails with good deliverability rates
  • Robust analytics and data reporting
  • Mobile and desktop friendly
  • The UI can be improved and made more user friendly for the beginners
  • The slab based pricing and the features associated can be improved. Basic plan doesn't have a lot of key features.
  • Detailed product documentation will be really helpful
If a business has a requirement to send bulk emails at scale, then Sendgrid is the best option available. It will generate a positive ROI for the company. However, if your business is small or you do not have a requirement to send bulk emails consistently, I suggest you look for an alternative, as the money spent on the product won't justify the ROI.

We use Twilio SendGrid for transactional email delivery on our SaaS platform, in particular, we use it as an external SMTP relay from the Google Cloud Platform architecture. Our web-based application sends out notifications, for instance, when a particular document or news article is updated or when a course is completed and we then use the SendGrid API to send that notification out to each user's email address. The great thing is that we can use it as a single-pane view of all emails sent from our platform, so that we can track any issues with delivery to an email, as well as any potential problems with the reputation of our SendGrid relay.
  • Transactional Email
  • Easy to administrate
  • Logging and auditing
  • Clear error messages for our team when investigating missing emails
  • Limitation on number of API keys/sub-users
I'd say that SendGrid is well suited to both small and large businesses, looking to send a large amount of emails where deliverability and tracking is important.

I don't think it would be suitable for any company only sending a small volume of emails.

We’ve been using SendGrid to run email marketing campaigns and validation of lists. Sendgrid has helped us reduce the time for creating and scheduling of campaigns, and we can easily track clicks, opt-in, and remove unsubscribes from the list. The feature of adding our own unsubscribe links makes this product stand out from others in similar spaces.
  • Allows to add own unsubscribe link.
  • Easy scheduling of campaigns.
  • User friendly dashboard and processes.
  • If it can allow or increase monthly sends.
Suited to send highly customized HTML or text emails with appropriate measures to have data security and privacy measures followed.

I have used Sendgrid since before Twilio purchased the business to send transactional emails to customers. We used it for welcome emails, password reset emails, MFA tokens, and general notifications. I've used Sendgrid in quite a few organizations - it's extremely easy to use and offers you the ability to connect through API or via SMTP, so it's really flexible.
  • Multiple connection options - API and SMTP.
  • Really easy to use.
  • Excellent documentation.
  • UI is very user friendly.
  • Integrated billing with Twilio.
I think Sendgrid is a great tool for sending out emails of all types. I've primarily used it for transactional emails as we've had other solutions for marketing emails, but I'm sure it would do just a good job - there is a "Marketing" section within the app you can use. Sendgrid integrates really easily with the development frameworks I've used, such as Laravel and Lumen; I've also integrated it with Moodle with ease.

My organization has been using SendGrid to cover a variety of uses. We have controlled and managed several hundred accounts, including our own, over the past several years. Personally, my experience goes back even further. Internal use: SMTP relaying for our eCommerce website (order notifications, shipping, password resets, etc...), internal systems (e.g. to send our engineering team alerts), and customer support (largely automated customer satisfaction surveys and ticket closure emails). Internal use: Email marketing to our existing customers, on a monthly basis. Client use: SMTP relaying to support our several hundred clients that needed reliable SMTP relaying for their own LOB applications SaaS use: Email API. We built and maintain a large enterprise SaaS platform that used SendGrid to send a significant amount of transactional emails to our users.
  • Decent API documentation
  • Offers free tier - easier buy-in for SMB clients
  • Customer service
  • Fraud management
  • Billing & invoicing transparency
SendGrid used to be an excellent platform, but in my opinion, it all started to go downhill when Twilio acquired them. Twilio SendGrid is no longer suitable for reliable SMTP relaying without shelling out a significant amount of cash for a dedicated IP (which Twilio SendGrid does not guarantee is clean), nor are they suitable for enterprise-level operations. The shared IP pool is absolutely unusable, which means the previous benefit of SMBs using SendGrid for SMTP relaying is off the table. They have violated SLAs multiple times, impacting both our clients' operations as well as our own, and have a history of ghosting our GRC and legal teams when trying to remediate these situations. I cannot, in good faith, recommend that any SMB, SME, or large enterprise even consider SendGrid for email services, no matter the usage scenario.

The first time we applied for an account we were denied. Monica R reported to us that we broke their terms based on the emails we were sending out. How can a company send out emails if the applied company never sent out any emails due to not having an account? We went over to Twilio and spoke to a very nice lady who was going to speak to the manager who never showed up to address the issue. We just want an account. We ask the customer service to send us all the emails we sent out to justify the reasoning. Not one of the 6 cs we have emailed with is returning emails. We are with Click Funnels and just want to move forward.
  • Skirt questions to different customer service people
  • I guess that SendGrid is ok, IMS account was stopped due to the type of emails being sent out - though zero emails were sent out that we are aware of.
  • Not even the managers are mindful of what their customer service is doing.
  • Customer Service
  • When a business representative goes to Twilio SendGrid office at least one manager should be there
  • Have you customer service not give false information
The lady we spoke to in person in Irvine was and still is trying to help us. Thank you so much.

I use it with ClickFunnels. They don’t have their own mail servers to use for bulk sending to a full email list. They require an outside service to send this way and SendGrid was the option they recommended. I wanted the most affordable solution and this seemed to be it.
  • Send bulk email
  • Hits inboxes
  • Doesn’t have down time
  • I haven’t spent much time on the site but the time I did spend seemed confusing.
  • Can’t think of anything else.
  • No more ideas for improvement.
Just using it to handle email functionality it works great. I use another service for more in-depth funnel possibilities and when/if type functions. It may very well do some of this type thing but I’m not at my plan level. It’s been a hands-off tool for me which is especially good if you aren’t too technical.

We use Twilio SendGrid in various ways and with several clients at Obra. One of the uses is focused on registering newsletters so that we can later send marketing emails to these email bases. Another use is the SMTP system, where we integrate the client's website so that it allows the sending of email from systems such as WordPress and websites in react.js
  • Great API integration
  • SMTP send made easy
  • Lists creation very useful and easy
  • Email marketing scheduling
  • API key creation
  • SMTP api
Twilio SendGrid is indicated to make integration with sites for sending via smtp in an easy and free way up to 1000 emails / month, for registration and use of submissions for monthly and weekly newsletters and automations. It is not so suitable when you need to create email tracks, create personas and other inbound marketing tasks.

We use Twilio SendGrid to build and send marketing emails. We use their API endpoints to automate a range of emails for various parts of our customer journey. We also integrate the Twilio SendGrid API into a reporting dashboard which helps us monitor our email marketing performance and formulate a strategy going forward.
  • Easy to use email builder
  • Easy to schedule email campaigns
  • API is flexible and easy to integrate with other systems
  • Sometimes animated GIF's do not load
  • Occasional formatting issues
Twilio SendGrid is probably more suited to those with at least some previous email marketing/building experience. The email builder is good but does require a little technical expertise to get the best out of it. Also setting up the backend required some technical skill. That being said the platform is very robust, stable and reliable.

We use both SendGrid marketing and transactional emails for a project we're helping to promote. It is a convenient tool for communicating with your clients and/or users regarding the account setup and other things, but also to send digests and updates (since the database is the same). It is mainly being used by me and a couple of my colleagues.

Our developers also have said that it is a convenient tool for them to integrate with.
  • Integrating with websites and mobile applications (registration, account activation, etc.) in terms of transactional emails
  • Sending (and scheduling) marketing emails
  • The prices are quite affordable as well (compared to other market leaders in email marketing)
  • The unsubscribing and cleaning the lists is a pain. You need to use a special tool to collect all your bounced, reported, unsubscribed, blocked, and invalid emails and then you create a separate list with them to delete it (along with all the emails that match the ones in the list)... Can we make it a bit simpler?
  • When you're creating/editing a marketing email, if you get into HTML code, it ceases to be a nice text WYSIWYG block and instead, you have to edit it ONLY in HTML from now on :( If I want to clear the trash in the code, it doesn't mean I want to switch to code-only.
  • Perhaps it's Chrome, but the layout is buggy. For example, when I edit a marketing email and I scroll down the email, the part of the screen that has the tools for editing the text is covered by the text of my email.
SendGrid is convenient when you also use transactional and marketing emails together because you can use the same database, clean it, get permissions, and everything from your clients/users at the same time. It has templates which you can use and edit, or you can create your own, therefore it is quite versatile (you can also import your own HTML layout, but it might not work as good as you hoped it would...).

We used SendGrid for transactional emails.
  • Nothing.
  • Horrible customer service.
  • Their platform doesn't even work.
  • Transactional emails don't even get sent to users.
SendGrid is the worst platform I have EVER used. Their customer service is HORRIBLE and unresponsive, their site doesn't even work, their transactional emails weren't even being sent to our users, HORRIBLE!!!!! Choose any other email platform instead of this one. I tried upgrading to their pro plan. They sent me a list of questions to answer and I answered all of them. Suddenly, I received an email saying not only was I not able to upgrade to a Pro account, but they locked my free account and disallowed our company from using their platform without giving an explanation why. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and I would never recommend SendGrid to ANYBODY.

SENDGRID DELIVER[ED] E-MAILS TO 50,000 SUBSCRIBERS *AFTER* THE PROMOTION ENDED. Not once, not twice, but EVERY SINGLE TIME. We got HUNDREDS of customers complaining they received the mail AFTER the promotion campaign ended so they couldn't use the coupon code. Sendgrid refuses to refund and doesn't care about their customers.

SENDGRID IP ARE ALREADY BLACKLISTED. Vast majority of e-mails ends up in the spam folder because SendGrid IP are flagged as spammer (their fault not mine). Because SendGrid IPs are already blacklisted it defeats the purpose of using SendGrid instead of your own mail server. Here's a screenshot of SendGrid customer support explaining their IP[s] are blacklisted: http://prntscr.com/vvftmx

NO REFUND - SENDGRID DOESN'T CARE. They will NOT refund your money even if their service failed due to their own incompetence. They even charged us excess fee of $60 and we never got refunded. Takes many days to get a reply from customer support.

SENDGRID KEEP[S] STEALING YOUR MONEY AFTER CANCELLING YOUR ACCOUNT. We finally had enough of SendGrid's unreliable service and closed our account. But SendGrid kept charging our credit card [for] 2 months. We had to contact them again twice to get the refund for the money they stole from us.

SendGrid is the only one to blame here. We don't send spam- our domain has very good reputation, we send only 4 e-mails per year, SPF/DKIM/DMARC is correctly configured, etc. The only mistake we [made] was trusting SendGrid. Don't do the same mistake we did.
I strongly recommend to NOT use SendGrid if you care about your customers. There is not a single valid reason to use SendGrid because their IPs are blacklisted and their service is unreliable. Trust me it will be a disaster for your business if you go with SendGrid, you will learn it the hard way. There are tons of reviews like mine all over the web.
  • Sendgrid misleads customers.
  • Sendgrid is very unreliable.
  • Sendgrid is good at stealing your money.
  • 50,000 e-mails delivered AFTER the campaign ended, every single time.
  • Overcharges and no refund.
  • Sendgrid IPs are already blacklisted.

We use SendGrid for all our transactional emails from our websites and through several applications we use for our clients. It solves issues for deliverability and inboxing emails.
  • Deliverability.
  • Customer support.
Despite their great deliverability and easy to use API, I'd suggest running, not walking away from this company.

We had our account compromised 7 days ago (as of June 18th). I got two emails - one notifying me that the user name was changed, and another that the email had been changed. The email says to respond to help@sendgrid.com if these changes weren't authorized.

I did that immediately. You'd think this would be a critical email and would be answered quickly. You'd be wrong.

It's SEVEN days and counting, and not a peep from SendGrid support. In addition to emailing them that NO, these changes weren't authorized and please help recover my account, I took these steps:
  • Messaged their Facebook page.
  • Responded to comments on their posts, asking for help.
  • Direct messaged them on Twitter.
  • Created a new account and submitted a ticket through that account.
  • Filled out a sales inquiry and talked directly to a sales associate, who also submitted a ticket on our behalf.
  • ALL of the above through Twilio, their parent company.
Still, we're locked out of the account, and SendGrid is still charging our credit card. We've got multiple systems tied to their platform, so we're held hostage while support continues to ignore every request.

We use Twilio SendGrid Marketing Campaigns on the platform side to send automated emails as well as in the marketing team to send out newsletters and other communication to the customers. Hence it is used by the engineering team and marketing team. One of the main business problems it addresses is that it provides flexibility for the engineering team to swap emails easily.
  • Manages to keep emails away from spam.
  • Reports are good but can be better.
  • UI can be improved.
  • Learning curve and can become overwhelming.
Twilio SendGrid Marketing Campaigns is well suited for teams that send out frequent newsletters to a large set of prospects/customers. The price is comparatively low and the overall platform is easy to use after the initial learning curve. Transactional emails are easy to configure but it might still require some help from the engineering team.

We use SendGrid for our newsletters, for our sales funnel, and for the automated thank-you messages post-purchase.
We’ve found SendGrid to be more flexible than other solutions that we’ve tried, and the support is awesome when you do have a problem. I cannot see us changing providers. Even when they updated the system, they left all the old menus in place, so there was a choice on whether to use the improvements or not -- and there's no downtime while learning the new layout.
  • Integrating with other systems is easy.
  • Campaigns are intuitive, even for people with no design skills.
  • I got frustrated bringing old data across, and with the way GDPR was handled.
  • I find removing records to be a bit clunky.
SendGrid is better the more data you have-- there are cheaper light products available for 1000 records or less. Trying to move data between systems is problematic, however, so if the intent is to scale, I would start with SendGrid from day one. When you need a sophisticated integration across multiple marketing platforms, you’ll be glad of the functionality and support.

We use SendGrid primarily in conjunction with ClickFunnels to fulfill all of our emails. ClickFunnels doesn't have the ability within to actually send, so this is a very economical and dependable solution.
  • Integrates with other systems, such as ClickFunnels.
  • Builder is super easy to use and send emails directly from the system.
  • In reporting, would like to see actual users that click/opened emails.
Twilio is well suited for small businesses and integrating with other systems. It has a very easy-to-use interface. It is probably less appropriate for large corporate companies that want more robust features.

My organization use this software for various purposes which includes information sharing, marketing, newsletters, etc. In my department I use this software for sending weekly newsletters to a specific group of people and clients. This software provides me all the necessary tools to create a newsletter full of information and creativity.
  • It has a very comprehensive dashboard which makes my work very easy.
  • It allows me to schedule my email campaigns.
  • It does not have many pre-loaded email templates.
  • It does not have a mobile app for Android.
This software is very helpful in newsletter campaigns. With the help of this software I can beautifully create informative emails for my peers and clients. Sometimes I route subscribers traffic to my designated webpage for providing information. The accuracy of this software ensures the divergence of the traffic in the right direction in less time.

I use Twilio SendGrid to reach more people with my newsletters and email campaigns. My entire team uses it across the whole organization as it integrates seamlessly with PCR, our CRM package for recruiting. With it, I can track marketing campaigns and watch activities to guide future efforts. The tracking ability makes clean up of my database very easy.
  • Schedules email delivery to not trigger spam filters.
  • Tracks activity from individuals that receive my emails.
  • Builds history of interactions and efforts.
  • Historical tracking and activity monitors.
  • Auto-fixing of wrong email addresses in my database or at least notification.
  • Provide input of key activity to assist in marketing efforts.
Best suited for large-scale email campaigns. Less appropriate for deciding the next step in the marketing process.

We manage many client websites and we have found that Twilio SendGrid is vital for Email API integration to make sure that website forms are delivered to the correct client emails and not sent to the spam folder or blocked by firewalls. Many website forms get pulled as spam and that blocks the client from getting the contact and potentially losing a sale.
  • Email facilitation.
  • Seamless integration.
  • Easy setup.
  • All good, I have no issues.
Twilio SendGrid Email API is well suited for WordPress websites when the contact forms are not being sent properly to the client email. We find this more with plugins like Gravity Forms, Contact7, Formidable and pop up alley pro-forms. If the test forms are not being delivered to the client, Twilio SendGrid Email API is a well-suited solution to the problem.

We use the Twilio SendGrid Email API for sending transactional emails from our Rails web apps. Twilio SendGrid Email API's infrastructure provides us worry-free, scalable delivery and can be set up with minimal configuration.

We provision Twilio SendGrid Email API as an addon for apps hosted with Heroku, as well as use it for web apps that are hosted elsewhere. The setup is so straightforward that a developer can implement it almost immediately, without having to read deep into documentation.
  • Easy implementation for developers.
  • Reliable transactional email delivery for apps and services.
  • Reporting and analytics on emails sent.
  • Personalized service may not be as readily available for smaller businesses. If you have questions about deliverability and reputation management, you may have to learn some more of this on your own, unless you are a big customer.
Twilio SendGrid Email API is not for sending email newsletters and designing email campaigns. It is meant for transactional email. For example, when you need to send out password reset emails or other notifications from your app or service. If you want a solution that is mainly worry-free, affordable to get started with, and one that provides reporting and analytics, then Twilio SendGrid Email API is for you.

We use Twilio SendGrid API primarily for our Marketing department but regularly use it for Product, Customer Care, and Data team-specific campaigns, allowing us to drive important company KPI's and get direct from consumer feedback. The platform solves a major business needs which is sending email messages to our audience as well as SMS but to a lesser degree.
  • Makes setting up your initial account pretty simple and straight forward. You can get set up with a single list and unsub group and get going really quickly.
  • You can grow your complexity over time and SendGrid is set up really well to handle that expansion. Setting up DNS, expanding IP addresses, grouping unsubs, etc. It scales really well as your business and team grow.
  • I'm a huge fan of the API delivery which lets us set up a lot of automated actions which lets us focus more on testing and optimizing making even a lean team a super powerful team.
  • The UX isn't as intuitive as other systems and it takes some getting used to the navigation. Additionally, they're adding a lot of new features, so finding the features you're used to while figuring out the new products can lead to some confusion.
  • The documentation while expansive doesn't provide a lot of real-world use cases to help navigate through an issue. It can be a bit general, leaving you with just as many questions as you started with.
