The product is a comprehensive software that allows teachers and administrators to efficiently manage various aspects of their school operations. Users can take attendance, track parent contacts, assign discipline, and enter grades all in one place, streamlining administrative tasks. Teachers can easily access previous interventions and parent contacts for reference, enhancing communication and collaboration. The software also enables tracking of attendance, meal balances, grades, and other important student data and demographics, providing a centralized database for storing this information.

One of the key use cases of this product is its ability to simplify communication with families. Teachers can enter various types of parent contacts and record the results along with notes, time, and date. Additionally, the announcements section can be utilized to inform parents about field trips and project requirements. This feature improves transparency between schools and families. Another crucial use case is the management and reporting capabilities of the software. It allows users to track attendance, state assessment results, transcripts, and generate progress reports and report cards. Administrators can also pull data based on different criteria to build lists of students, such as identifying those eligible for interventions. This functionality contributes to efficiency in a classroom setting by having all essential information in one place.

Furthermore, the software serves as a centralized database for storing grades, attendance records, behavior patterns, parent/guardian contacts, and personal information. This ensures that authorized users have easy access to student information when needed. The product's user-friendly interface makes it easier for staff members to collaborate on IEP report writing by providing a platform for seamless collaboration. Overall, this software addresses the needs of schools by providing an organized system for managing student data and facilitating effective communication between teachers, administrators, and families.

Attendance and Grade Tracking: Many users have found the attendance and grade tracking features of the software to be extremely helpful, saving them time and making the process faster. Some reviewers appreciated that it allowed teachers to take attendance and enter grades with fewer clicks, improving efficiency in their daily tasks.

Customization Options in Grade Book: The customization options in the grade book were highly appreciated by users. They found it extremely helpful to be able to customize it in any way they wanted, including color coding by performance. This feature made it much easier for teachers to quickly assess how their students were doing overall.

Visual Reminders: Users have mentioned that the visual reminders provided by the software are very helpful. The ability to make incompletes or missing assignments stand out visually helps them keep track of their students' progress more effectively. Several reviewers have praised this feature for enhancing organization and facilitating effective communication with students and their families.

Difficulty in navigating and finding information: Many users have expressed frustration with the software's navigation system, stating that it is difficult to find specific information within SIS. Some reviewers have even mentioned that there are multiple ways to access features, making it confusing and not straightforward.

Frequent downtime: Several users have reported experiencing frequent downtime with SIS, occurring 1-2 times a month. This has caused inconvenience for users who rely on the software for their daily tasks and has disrupted their workflow.

Complicated setup and maintenance of grade book: Setting up the grade book for the first time and keeping it going throughout the year can be complicated according to some reviewers. This requires frequent training and refreshers as there are many steps and processes involved, which can be confusing or unclear.

Based on user reviews, there are three common recommendations for the software:

  1. Improve user-friendliness and options: Users have mentioned that the software is not very intuitive and lacks necessary options for a school system. Enhancing the user interface and adding more features would greatly improve the overall experience.

  2. Provide initial setup support: Many users have found it challenging to navigate the software, especially during the initial setup. They recommend seeking assistance from someone knowledgeable or having support available to ensure a smooth implementation process.

  3. Utilize for student information management and transactions: Reviewers highly recommend this software for managing student information and facilitating parent transactions. They appreciate its functionality and convenience in handling these tasks efficiently.

In addition to these recommendations, users also suggest checking state and federal reporting requirements before implementing the software. Some users have also compared it to Infinite Campus, mentioning that while it may lack visual appeal compared to Infinite Campus, it still offers similar functionality.

Overall, while users appreciate the positive updates made to the software in terms of performance and functionality, they emphasize the need for improved user-friendliness, support during initial setup, and stress its suitability for student information management and parent transactions.

My entire school district uses Tyler. It is used for communicating with families, entering grades, and tracking all other information for students in the district. It allows us to track attendance, state assessment results, and transcripts (among other things). It is our single source for all information for students. For teachers, it gives them the ability to send mass emails to the parent(s) of every student, or just select students, without having to look up the contact information for each student. Tyler SIS has been a great upgrade for us as a district since our previous system. For administration, Tyler SIS gives the ability to pull data based on different criteria in order to build lists of students. For example, this data pull has been used to isolate students eligible for an intervention project, which could then be sifted through by educators in order to prioritize students according to need. Tyler SIS can also be used to track attendance and pull reports to see which students have more than a set number of tardy or absent marks in attendance.
  • Consolidated source of information
  • Easy access to contact information
  • Gradebook system has many helpful features
  • So many features, many we don't know how to use.
  • We have had regular issues with the website not working.
  • Comment system for report cards needs sorting (or a search option).
When it comes to tracking grades and attendance or even just entering grades and attendance, this has been the best system I have used in fifteen years in education. The administrative side has many features and tools that allow us as a school or district to identify students that would benefit from specific interventions. Overall, it has been a great product for us. I am not aware of any scenarios where Tyler SIS is less appropriate than other products.

  • There are so many features that we have not had to buy additional products (so it saves us money).
  • Tyler SIS also makes things easier for parents by consolidating all information they need.
  • There have been many times where the website has been down, and it essentially shuts us down until the issue is resolved.
Everything about Tyler SIS has been better than 4Clicks. I remember it being a running joke in my building about how the "four clicks" was such a selling point. Sometimes it was not really four clicks until you reached what you need, but it also felt as though it required four clicks to even do a simple thing. The gradebook system alone was infuriating with how many clicks (and the loading) it took to enter grades.

Tyler SIS is being used in our school district to hold all student information. It is being used across our entire school district: elementary, middle school, high school, and learning center. The problem that Tyler SIS solves is that it allows for administrators and authorized users to view student information when needed for various reasons. Teachers also can take attendance of students who are present during that school day.
  • Keeps information secure, safe, and encrypted.
  • Student information is easy to navigate when needed by authorized users.
  • Allows for teachers to have their classes organized to take attendance easily.
  • Need for labels of all of the navigation pictures. It is difficult for me to know what button I am clicking into if I haven't accessed that part of the software in a while.
  • It would be nice to have a tutorial to know how to navigate the software better. It can be difficult to navigate at the beginning.
  • Remove the "BULLETIN" section.
Tyler SIS is well suited to take attendance, and retrieve student information when needed. It is less suited when needing to pay a lunch balance or access the gradebook. It can be difficult to navigate the software with all of the different functions. A tutorial would be helpful in this realm to help the ease of understanding the software.
  • Allowed the organization to transfer records of students when needed.
  • Allows the administrators and authorized staff to contact parents or guardians because the information is all in the software.
  • Easy way to take attendance during class.
I am not familiar with another software system as I have only been in the organization when they have used Tyler SIS.
