We use it across the entire organization for HR and Payroll needs. It completes our need for recordkeeping of employee data and facilitates all of our payments to employees including time and attendance.

  • Time and attendance module support is very lacking.
  • Getting an answer can sometimes be time-consuming and the answer can vary depending on who you talk to.
If you need to keep track of employees, new hires, terms, time and attendance, and payroll then UKG provides a well-integrated package. HR's procedures for new-hires flows well to the payroll team so that we can pay them appropriately and timely. Information from payroll automatically feeds into the time and attendance system easily. Everything flows smoothly and without much intervention.

Our company is using UKG Pro as our primary HRIS, Benefits Administration and for Timekeeping solutions for the whole organization. We finalized the implementation process on March 2019 when the product was known as UltiPro. Beyond HRIS, Benefits, and Payroll, UKG Pro has improved our reporting and analytics approach to HR and Payroll. Previous timekeeping was almost non-existent as it was being handled manually with the submission of excel timesheets that involved a lot of risk for human error and non-ideal recordkeeping. To say that processes across the HR and Payroll team have improved and become more efficient at our company is an understatement. Anyone looking to streamline processes for HR and Payroll would want to consider UKG Pro as a solution.

  • The BI Cognos Analytic module is complex to learn for everyday use.

I would recommend the product to a colleague with specific pros and cons listed on this review. Since experiences are unique to the user, the colleague would have enough feedback from us to make their own decision. Ultimately, the product is useful on a daily basis as is and there are constant updates and improvements to it.

UKG has transitioned all the modules that we were using with Ultipro. Onboarding, Recruitment/Talent Management, Core, Performance Evaluations. The recruitment piece is used across the organization and is accessed by hiring managers and department directors. It streamlines the recruitment process very well. We also have self service for life events and open enrollment which are used for all our our employees.

  • User training and guides are very helpful when getting stuck somewhere within the system.
  • Benefits module has limitations.
  • Leave tracking has little to no fields built into the system so we are forces to use an alternate system.
I feel that UKG does a good job at handling the payroll processing aspect and was able to customize our very complicated business rules to meet our needs. In addition, they are very adept at working through issues during the implementation phase. Report writing is very robust through Business Intelligence but needs to have a dedicated staff person who can learn the complexity of it.

QSAC is using UKG Pro (formerly Ultimate Software UltiPro) platforms across the agency, including the core HR system, payroll, performance management, and ATS.

  • The need to do a better deep-dive during the sales process; we spent probably over an additional $150-200K in customizations, which were determined during the go-live process. This should have been determined prior to the sales agreement.
  • The customization turnaround time takes longer than expected, especially for such a large company.
  • The need to improve their OSHA tracking and benefits platforms.
Their core platform gives a lot of options for a lot of information. They are in the process of improving their time and attendance platform through the merger. They are excellent in identifying problems and coming up with solutions. During implementation, the senior managers need to listen to the customer and not be rigid on the deadline when UKG Pro (formerly Ultimate Software UltiPro) is late in putting together the initial project specs.

We currently use UKG Pro for several divisions in our Eastern Territory. We've enabled the HR and Payroll modules and will be slowly rolling out other modules in the future. The main goal with this initial implementation was to align payroll processes across the territory and to upgrade our HR systems functionalities. With UKG Pro, we have more control over employee data and payroll and can make better business decisions based on that data.
  • Relatively easy to find information you're looking for.
  • User access administration is very easy to use to reset passwords, lock/unlock accounts, etc.
  • Pricing is competitive for the services offered.
  • The standard reports do not export in an easy-to-read/use Excel format. It just converts the PDF to an Excel and the formatting is a nightmare, making it difficult to manipulate data. The BI integration alleviates this some, but since only a few staff have licenses, we have limited ability to run complex, custom reports.
  • It would be great if you could add more information/columns to the 'My Employees' search results than what's already included, such as scheduled hours, PTO balances, etc.
  • It would be nice if there was a wizard that changed all the related fields across the employee profile when there's a change in their employment terms. For example, when we change an employee's classification from FT to PT or exempt to non-exempt, we also have to change their earnings/deductions group, their scheduled hours, and potentially their PTO rules. It can be easy to miss one of these steps because the information is spread out across different sections/tabs. If the "Change Job" wizard (for example), captured all of this information and updated it across tabs, that would save a lot of time and reduce human error in the data input.
UKG is well suited for mid to large organizations with complex HR/payroll needs. The configuration is a complicated process, but it does have the nuance we need to capture all the unique scenarios and situations in our org. If you're looking for a simple HR/Payroll solution, this may be more advanced than what you need. For organizations that need complex, custom reports, this may not be a suitable alternative unless you also have the BI integration.

We use UKG company wide as our data warehouse for employee records and recruiting. We use it in the United States offices for payroll and benefits in addition to HR data.
  • The setup and transfer was very hands-on and well guided.
  • The Open Enrollment platform is informative and easy to use.
  • The reporting module (Business Intelligence) is too complicated. Even their "experts" have difficulty making a basic report produce consistent results.
  • Navigation within the menus are clunky. Often when working on a task you have to navigate between different sections of the website to work through the steps of one procedure.
  • Customer support seems to be made up of individuals with specialized knowledge which means you are often transferred around when problem solving.
  • Access rights cannot be customized to an individual without the lengthy process of creating a new role. Even then, some access must be given broadly, even to those who don't need it.
Companies with basic needs can do well with UKG, it's a lot easier to manage if you don't need a lot from them. If you have complicated, or even standard requirements, be prepared to pay extra for specialized services and help. Companies with a lot money who can afford to outsource their back-end management to UKG will also be a good fit.

We use UltiPro for all HR / Payroll functionality except time and attendance. We use another vendor for that. UPM has been rolled out to all salaried employees and we are currently rolling it out to all office hourly employees. We've utilized Salary Planning for 3 years now. We also use Manager and EE Self Service by all employees. Our biggest obstacle is Open Enrollment. We've used Open Enrollment .NET version for two years and the previous version before that. We've yet to have a flawless open enrollment. I am constantly asked about spell check. With all of our Salaried Reviews, our CEO is very disappointed when he reads reviews with many spelling errors. Please implement a spell check feature for all functionality that involves text fields.
  • Accessible from anywhere. It is a huge advantage to be able to do my job from anywhere in the world
  • Access to a support system for the rare occasion I need assistance with functionality
  • Functionality is always there, I never worry about UltiPro being unavailable or unable to resolve an issue
  • Spell Check - This really needs to be added
  • Better communication with customers. I get more information from Linked In from other customers then I do from Ultimate
  • Allow us to determine our own business processes. Functionality is being limited by Ultimate Software instead of allowing us to decide. The time out changes are still a big issue with our management team. Being unable to extend the timeout beyond 30 minutes is hard to explain.

UKG Pro is First Tech main HR tool for our 1600+ active employees and 2000+ terminated employees who rely on access to their historical employment data. UKG Pro addresses our businesses' need for well executed employment data management, workflows, and ability to report out on data. UKG Pro offers a suite of options for administrators and end-users alike which make the tool easy to use.
  • Automated Role Security Configuration has been well implemented and helps reduce manual work.
  • The Cognos Business Intelligence tools available with UKG Pro allows a business to do everything from create the most simple reports to creating robust automations and efficiencies in business processes.
  • Workflow Configuration based off UltiPro Security role allows for the utmost ability to create dynamic workflows and approval processes for the variety of employee and leader transactions required of a system like UKG Pro.
  • UKG Pro lacks in the recruiting space. The integration of data between the core and recruiting modules is not at its best yet.
  • At the price enterprises pay, a sandbox environment should be standard.
  • Service Requests costs can get a little out of control. If so many customers are asking for similar features that are offered by other large players in the game, it would be nice to see some additional big picture items added to the roadmap.
UKG offers a unique value proposition in it's expansive and collaborative features available across the modules offered. UKG offers amazing ability to report on your workforce and use attributes to understand trends/design strategic initiatives. UKG could increase their tools ability to schedule more dynamically. This is important to my space in events and entertainment. Hopefully with the merger of Kronos, Time & Scheduling tools will see a big upgrade.

I have used many systems and the best by far in my opinion is UKG Pro (formerly Ultimate Software UltiPro). You do not have to have any formal training to pick up the system and run with it--the platform is very user friendly. And the customer service is unmatched in my opinion. Other vendors truly could learn a lot from Ultimate Software Group about how to approach and listen to the needs of your customers.

Our organization uses UKG Pro (formerly Ultimate Software UltiPro) across our whole organization as our teammates' self-service portal. It also functions as our employee database that we use for recruiting, onboarding, and payroll.

This is a great tool for human resource functions for companies with a very large amount of employees. It can be beneficial for companies with fewer people, of course, but it is able to create a user-friendly experience for teammates as well as HR who make hundreds of changes to employee data per day.

When we went live with UltiPro in 2014, it was being used by approximately 500 home office employees, 100 users in our field force, and 500 retirees. We use it to manage time, process payroll, conduct performance reviews, merit increases, recruiting, on boarding, and most importantly, run reports. More recently in 2020, we went through an additional implementation to bring in commissioned field force to process payroll only for them. This added an additional 3000+ records. This will allow us to offer additional benefits to all employees instead of using IT coding hours to code complex benefit plans into an old system that our agents used to have payroll calculated on.
  • Reporting capabilities are fantastic and relatively easy to use with some training.
  • User friendly and intuitive.
  • Customer Service is outstanding. We may not always get the answer we want but response times and resolutions are quick turnarounds.
  • Ease of adding new earnings and deductions.
  • Business Intelligence reporting could be improved by making the selection of data easier to find. Perhaps including a search function rather than scouting through different tables and items.
  • The Compensation Management module is a bit clunky for administrators. It should function more like the Performance Management module since they are typically tied together.
  • The Time Management module could be spruced up to take out some of the extra information that confuses users - this isn't very configurable.
This is a huge step up from our mainframe environment and has reduced IT resources that were previously needed for reporting. It isn't perfect and can't meet everything we need but we are working with what we have and overcoming challenges.

We use UltiPro as our system of record for HR and Payroll. We utilize Onboarding and Performance Mgmt as well. Our staff has access to pay stubs and personal data. Our managers submit status changes, pay changes and evaluations using UltiPro. Essentially, we have eliminated about 90% of our paper process. It has provided many efficiencies from a benefit enrollment, payroll and employee maintenance process. We are able to track changes and help reduce errors.
  • UltiPro tracks every change made in the system. We are able to trace back to the originator any change in question and it keeps the historical data for us. When a manager submits a pay change for an employee, they are able to see historical information that may impact their decision.
  • UltiPro's reporting feature is superior to any system I've ever used. I am able to easily find what field I need to report on and can mix and match what level of detail I choose.
  • UltiPro's customer service is top notch! Whether it's using case management, utilizing the chat feature (amazing!) or searching for an answer myself in knowledge base, they have mastered the level of customer service busy HR professionals need day to day. You have many options to find your answers based on the severity of your need and the timeliness of your solution.
  • A local user group would be great where we can meet and brainstorm with other UltiPro users about functionality, setups or best practices.
  • I'd like contingent requests to be active on the effective date rather than waiting until payroll closes. We are consistently getting calls from managers and employees wondering if their request was approved or why it wasn't viewable.
  • Performance management and assignment of goals could use some improvement. We have limited flexibility because we don't use this function throughout the organization.
Having used UltiPro at two other employers and implemented it for two out of the three, I feel UltiPro is extremely intuitive. It also offers the user many tools to execute what they need or find information at their fingertips. Where it's the knowledgebase or the quick tours, etc, UltiPro is there for you in many different ways.

Our company is an energy construction company with multiple subsidiary companies. Six of the twelve companies are now using UltiPro for HR and Payroll processing. The other companies came on to UltiPro within the past few months for benefits open enrollment and ongoing benefit administration and reporting. UltiPro allows more insight into subsidiary HR, Payroll and Benefits and a centralized place for administration and reporting and interfaces.
  • Ease of use - Someone with little to no training can come into UltiPro and within a very short time be able to find information, enter data, and create standard reports. With some basic payroll knowledge and training, the process of running payroll through the web interface is extremely easy. I've worked with other systems that are very cumbersome to set up, maintain, and utilize on a regular basis.
  • Payroll taxes - As a Payroll/HRIS Manager, I don't have to worry about whether taxes are set up appropriately to withhold at the proper rate for State and Local as well as Federal taxes. Having Ultimate do our tax fulfillment, they even update our unemployment rates as they receive notifications from the states. If the system and employees are set up correctly, taxes will be withheld correctly without needing to worry about whether or not reciprocity rules are being followed and any other state or federal law.
  • Reporting - Ultimate provides a large number of standard reports that are available to run for both HR and Payroll related activities. Where a standard report may not meet the exact needs of the organization, a Business Intelligence tool is provided (Cognos) so that you can create any type of report you need. While I am not a Cognos expert, I find it easy to use for my needs and can get most any information I want through BI. Ultimate will custom write any report I am not able to create on my own or provide assistance through support to answer any questions I may have.
  • General Ledger - General Ledger could be more user friendly to set up. I think if this functionality were moved to the web with a different type of interface than what is in the back office, it could make the process easier.
  • Employee Tax Setup - Although I love the overall functionality of how taxes are handled in UltiPro, I would prefer to get an error when adding a new employee in the web when a resident state is not set up for that company. Currently it gives a warning, but I've had occasions where I did not receive or did not see the notification sent by HR to set up the new state and taxes were not withheld for months on an employee. When you view the employee in the web, they look correct. But in the back office the resident state is missing and it does not calculate.
  • Communications from Ultimate - I have found that the communications coming from Ultimate on issues (e.g., taxes and wage attachments) are ambiguous. I don't always have time to log in to view a case they created and even then the communication is not always clear and it is difficult to reach the right person to get clarification. If the email sent had more detail, it would make my job much easier. Also, when they do create a case, if they would put some sort of reference in the field available so you can go back to it more quickly, that would be a huge improvement!
  • Print services - You need to have an option to have checks overnighted on the day of printing without paying a $200 fee if this is a normal request and not a late submission. Other payroll providers offer this service. Why can't Ultimate?
I've used Ultimate for many years and have seen it grow and improve through the years, from basic HR/Payroll to a full HR/Talent Suite offering. I would definitely recommend it to those who have a good knowledge of HR/payroll themselves. It is different than using a payroll service such as ADP or Paycom, and I prefer Ultimate, but if an organization needs more hand-holding, Ultimate may not be the best solution.

We leverage UltiPro as our HRIS/payroll and time management solution. We initially implemented core HRIS and payroll. In 2019 we added UltiPro Time.

I would recommend UltiPro because the solution is well designed, stable, functions well, and allows for a certain level of modification by the admin. Where we have challenges is with some of the other products like recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and learning. While the solutions offer general functionality there are other solutions in the market place that are more robust.

It is our HCM, and we utilize the core product for payroll/hr, UTA for time and attendance, Recruiting, and onboarding modules, as well as limited use of payment services. it is used across the whole organization.
  • Escalations for critical issues.
  • Payroll system and support.
  • Custom support development, having a better understanding upfront of expectations and needs so implementation and testing are smoother.
  • better communication across Ulti teams (support, project/development, 3rd parties).
  • More cohesive products that work well together and have the same look/feel.
Day to day payroll support is phenomenal. We also have a great CRM, Jay S., who always has our back, understands our account, and helps escalate appropriately and quickly.

Many of the applications are bolt-ons and the cohesiveness of the overall product isn't there. Each system has a different look, different feel, different support team, etc.

Reporting is also another pain point. Unless you are a professional report writer, BI is very complicated to understand and build reports. Also, very time-consuming. A better dashboard reporting/data warehouse view would be nice. As well as a simple query tool for nontechnical individuals.

We utilize UltiPro for our HR and Payroll solutions. We also have compensation (but not currently using) and recruiting. All employees use the self-service and utilize UTM for our time clock so it is used across the organization. We also utilize many BI reports for analytical reports in other areas such as budgeting, turnover and of course general ledger reports.
  • Payroll processing - I love the fact that you can update a check in real time. No canceling the payroll calculation just to update one check.
  • Payroll processing - The process from start to finish is simple and easy to follow
  • File transfer - I like the fact that I can run a standard report and send it to someone through UltiPro rather than email. Much more secure.
  • Deduction setup - There is an option for Deduction Start but no option for when it should stop if an employee terminates. The only selection is Stop deductions at termination. Our deductions go until the end of the month so we have to manually update them on the check in order to pull them in.
  • Model My Pay - Since the changes in the tax setup it doesn't seem to be working correctly. You use to be able to update your taxes and do a check calc to see if that is what you needed. I updated my taxes and did the model pay and was totally different than what was actually paid.
  • Tax filing - Issues that need resolving should be dealt with more timely. I have had a couple of cases out there for 6 months or more with no updates or responses and I keep getting letters adding more interest and penalties.
Although somethings could be done better, overall I prefer UltiPro over any other I have used in the 25 years of being in payroll. Having learning resources available for employees helps reduce employees reaching out to payroll to explain.

UltiPro is being used across our company. The ability for employees to see their own data when needed by them cuts down the number of calls to the Payroll and Human Resources departments. Having their information available 24/7 allows our employees access to their data on their own time. Opening up UltiPro to allow changes initiated by our employees allows them more control of their data and gets them personally involved with the process.

Each year there are new and exciting enhancements added to the software platform that are relevant to our needs or a way to make our life's easier.

Across the entire organization by all employees. It greatly helps us manage and engage our workforce from recruiting to performance management.
  • Payroll and time off management is great for personal employee use.
  • Job applicants are easily brought into onboarding and core with little effort.
  • Menus, branding, look, and feel are very consistent and user-friendly across the platform.
  • UltiPro Recruiting is far behind other ATSs on the market especially given how crucial it is to recruit good talent; strong integration is needed with third parties like Linkedin, Glassdoor, Indeed, CRMs, email marketing, etc.
  • Data flow from one module to another and true integration needs to be improved.
  • All UltiPro data needs to be available in Cognos Analytics.
Great for midsize organizations. It might be too much for small businesses and not enough for large enterprises. It makes sense if you are looking for an integrated HCM suite, but is not the best if you need all the bells and whistles from best of breed solutions.

At this time UltiPro is being used in managing timesheets only and it is being used by the entire City of Detroit organization.
  • Keeping accurate timesheets based on Union contracts for all members

Ease of use for processing payroll and benefits administration. There are some limitations on system configuration for mid-market clients which can be costly with time constraints. We went live in 2016 to use for this for payroll and our HRIS system. Now we use it for time management, recruiting and performance management. We are looking into the file management/case management in the near future and wish to move to Benefits Prime.
  • The payroll program is very user-friendly and we never had issue paying associates.
  • Great reporting tools including standard reports to BI.
  • We can empower our associates to control their data and also managers can easily navigate info.
  • The Support team and timing. Before we came to Ulti, we had one person designated and handled all the issues and question. With Ulti, we have to wait for someone to respond to the cases we open. It's not really timely.
  • Tax. As even Ultimate people know, we have received quite few delinquent notifications from different states.
  • UTA program is very limited with support and the mobile App UTA is just not working.
It's definitely great products for the payroll and benefits aspects for midsize to a larger company. Rapid response teams are very helpful for any urgent issues and questions.
However, normal support with cases, response time drops down significantly.
Also, some products are great for themselves but don't talk to each other. This gets problematic when we run reports.
