What is Ultraleap (Leap Motion + Ultrahaptics)?
Ultraleap provides hand tracking and haptics technology designed to support virtual reality applications with controllability. The developer solution allows builders to create apps that operate interactive kiosks, public touchscreens, elevators, and ATMs using touchless gesture control. The Ultraleap TouchFree application even allows the user to retrofit existing touchscreens.
Additionally, the vendor suggests the automotive UI of the future is 3D and multi-modal, as well as intuitive, emotional, and user-centred. New interface technologies mean manufacturers can now connect drivers and passengers to their vehicles in revolutionary ways, which Ultraleap aims to help the user develop.
Tracking
The Leap Motion Controller is presented as small, fast, and accurate hand tracking, Ultraleap’s optical hand tracking module that captures the movements of hands with accuracy and near-zero latency. Alternately, the high-performance Stereo IR 170 (formerly known as Rigel) has a wider field of view, longer tracking range, and slimmer form factor than the Leap Motion Controller. It is available to buy as an Evaluation Kit.
Haptics
Ultraleap’s plug-and-play haptic module, STRATOS Inspire, is presented as a smart way to integrate virtual touch. Designed for quick deployment and safety tested for public use. STRATOS Explore is presented as a flexible, scalable high-end haptics development kit, built for innovation.
Ultraleap is formed from the merger of Leap Motion and Ultrahaptics, which occurred May 2019. The resulting company is headquartered in Bristol, and as of June 2021 has received $50 million in investment from Tencent as part of its series-D round of funding taking place during the year.
