We are using Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery as a backup and recovery solution for our vital servers. The implementation was quick, and have had to test the recovery under quick turnaround to nothing but success. We have been very impressed with the service and would recommend it without reserve.
  • Solid backup.
  • Piece of mind.
  • Solid recovery of lost data.
  • More tools to manage it via mobile device.
Many years ago, I heard this simple description of users: there are those who have lost data, and those who are about to. [Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery] gives a solid solution for backup and recovery that you can manage. If your company needs fast recovery from a disaster, then you should absolutely consider [Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery]. If your needs are not as expedient, then storing your backup on a slower recovery service is an option.

I currently have 2, 8TB backup solutions in my company. One is located at my West branch and replicates all data at that location, the other is at our East location and have them replicate change data overnight. This gives us our own "cloud storage". I am able to recover anything here in the West, and if there is an issue, I can spin up VM's on our VMWare server in the East using the backups on my appliance.
  • Easy to use an operate.
  • Customer service is Excellent!
  • Set and forget device meaning there is little maintenance after deployment.
  • Deployment is simple with customer support.
  • Setting appliances to backup entire VMware servers should not initially be done, its a waste of space if you have several test servers.
  • Spinning up of VM's is not straight forward unless you are a Unitriend's expert.
  • Replication between 2 appliances took a while to get correct so old backups were removed.
In our environment, we have 5 locations, 2 of which are main branches the others are satellites. All data runs through one location with our other main branch being a hot site. For us, it is easy to use, simple to deploy, allows for quick recovery, spin up a VM can be done with customer service and they do an awesome job.

Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] is currently being used to make our local backups and off-site disaster recovery workflows. The local appliance provides a great way to quickly restore files as needed. The offsite cloud data center backup creates a disaster recovery element and long-term storage for quarterly and annual backups.
  • Web based dashboards.
  • Easy to restore files.
  • Easy viewing of backup status.
  • Cost of Cloud storage.
  • Cost of appliance.
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery appliance and cloud backups are great for any situations where you require an easy to manage workflow for local and remote storage backups to allow your company to have a business continuity plan and disaster recovery plan that is dependable and easy to test. The Hybrid appliance and cloud approach is more affordable than a 100% cloud-based solution.

You will need a dedicated high-speed data line to keep your cloud backups current.

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is our organization's complete backup appliance and solution. Moving into my role, I was alarmed at my organization's lack of a complete back-up solution; in fact, we were still using an old Dell tape system. Having prior experience with Unitrends, I was led to seek a system that could integrate cloud solutions with an on-site appliance. Our system was a breeze to implement and quickly became adopted across the organization as the solution for all on-site and eventually cloud-based back-ups. Unitrends support has also bee top-notch whenever we have had a call or a need to replace troubled drives. When we undertook a relocation of our datacenter, our main OS drive failed and was not kicking over to the back-up drive, but support worked diligently and had us up and running very quickly. Their customer service has been key and I happen to think that that alone has been well worth the cost we have paid for the solution.
  • Quick Efficient Back-ups.
  • A GUI that is easy to navigate and self explanatory.
  • Restores are quick and easy to complete.
  • Cloud operations aren't cumbersome.
  • Old-dated restores can be hard to find/recover.
  • More smartphone functionality.
  • Better off-site access.
I would recommend [Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery] to a colleague. I have been involved with purchasing Unitrends solutions at three different companies. I have also recommended Unitrends to multiple consulting customers I have had over the years. I am very likely to suggest Unitrends again for my company or any colleagues that ask. Its use and functionality are quite unique to the industry and its cost is very attractive to those looking for an on-site solution with a healthy customer service team state-side.

I'm actually in the process of installing my 4th appliance over the years. [Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery] handles the backup for 4 schools. The appliance model makes [for an] easy licensing system. Archiving gives me an offsite backup.
  • Archiving to other locations for very little cost.
  • Easy licensing model with appliance (no need license per backup instance).
  • Just works.
  • Maybe offer account rep to look over backup setup (making sure to get [the] most out of product).
I love the appliance model as I want another backup that is not attached to my primary SAN. If you have dark fiber, being able to achieve data to other locations gives you a lot more safety.

We use Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery to back up all of our servers for the entire organization.
  • Backups are simple to setup.
  • Backup to archive for offsite storage is simple for small organizations.
  • Recovering files is simple and there are help guides if you get stuck.
  • Would like to see scheduled jobs for all systems in a calendar.
  • Restoring files could be simpler. It was not clear how to get to the files on the server so I had to do a little digging in the help files.
  • Agent push rarely works and installing from the appliance never works so I have to go to the website, get the right version the fight with Windows Defender to get it installed.
In my limited experience, it is the best solution for an organization of our size. We have about 30 servers combined. Some are physical and some are virtual. We used to just back up 10 servers and it made for a very cost-effective solution even then.

We are backing up key desktops, Hyper-V Hosts and Virtual Servers across multiple sites. These backup to a local NAS and replicate the data to a central appliance located at Head Office. The Head Office appliance backs up to local storage and then replicates key servers to the cloud for DR. This gives us both quick local recovery if needed and a DR solution.
  • Reliability.
  • Single pane of glass for management.
  • Quick support.
  • Updating virtual appliances.
  • Updating agents.
  • Reporting to GUI when there are issues.
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery has performed well for us across multiple sites offering both Virtual appliances and Physical appliances, We only use for physical backup and Virtual Servers, using an agent therefore not using Hyper Visor backup, so can't comment [on] that.

I would recommend this be part of any IT Manager's review process for backup options.

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery provides our company with backup support for a range of virtual machines in VMWare hosts. It is used by the IT department to back up critical appliances in case of disaster, power loss, or hardware failure and to quickly go back up online.
  • Unified appliance.
  • No need for additional host os.
  • Automated back up.
  • Easiness to set up.
  • Storage management is somewhat confusing.
  • Licensing and appliance configurations are hard to find.
  • Themes will not work.

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery backs up our email and shared data files daily. It is used by the entire organization. Recently we did a redeployment with the assistance of our local representative and existing documentation provided to us. Our server is replicated at our corporate Headquarters. Whenever we bring down emails or shares we review the backup Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery data to identify problems related to security and other issues. Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery also gives us monthly backup data.
  • Email provides data particularly well on a monthly basis.
  • Shared files very well this is important to the IT Group.
  • Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery runs quietly in the background no problems.
  • Needs to be easier to upgrade like some other BI products now.
  • Easier dashboard console.
  • Documentation could always be more detailed.
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is well suited to perform and manage backups of things like email and shared data. My organization has NAS and other Cisco products running on the network. Unitrends Data Center functions could be used more the redundancy is perfect for us to share backup and recovery data with our counterparts in Rhode Island.

We use our Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery to back up our whole organization. Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery gives us a single pane of glass backup of our Physical, Virtual, and Network Shares. Upgrades are released as needed and implementation is easy.
  • Backup VMWare.
  • Backup of multiple asset types.
  • Easy to use Interface.
  • SMB Backup still stuck with SMB1 (Should have been gone long ago).
  • Cloud Backup, a view into how data is used/stored online would be nice.
  • DashBoard - Ask Community links still broken.
Overall I really like Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery, but there still is some work that needs to be done with the product.

We use Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery to back up our virtual servers to a NAS. It helps with disaster recovery if a server is to go down.
  • Easy setup.
  • Notifications of successful or failed backups.
  • Just works.
  • NAS setup in terms of attachment for successful backups wasn't straightforward.
Works great in the vSphere environment. Relatively easy setup and reliable backups. If you're looking for backup software you can rely on (which I'd say is pretty important) this is your go-to.

We run nightly, weekly and monthly backups of our network with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery.
  • Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery runs early am backups of user files so if they ruin a file the user can restore it without IT interactions.
  • Monthly saves allow for more protection against corruption and thieves.
  • It is expensive but it helps me sleep better at night.
Allowing users to right-click and restore files across many date ranges is a great help to IT. If that does not work we are still able to retrieve the user data using the online front end.

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is our current backup solution which replicates data to our main appliance and then replicates certain data sets to the cloud. The cloud backups are considered our permanent archive of data. The cloud storage is limited so we only backup the most critical data to the cloud.
  • Simple to setup.
  • Software just simply runs and does what it says it will.
  • Extremely reliable.
  • Very little maintenance to keep the backups working without interruption.
  • Cost per TB in the cloud could be better.
  • SQL backup is a separate process which is cumbersome during setup.
Best: Quick recovery needs, backup to an on-prem appliance, pushing archive data to the cloud. Organizations that need a quick solution that simply runs and does what it says it will do.

Less appropriate: Large/massive amounts of data being replicated to the cloud. Pushing data from on-prem to the cloud can be a challenge when creating the links.

We use the Unitrends Backup Appliance in our Centralized Datacenter to backup all onsite servers. That data includes user files, documents, databases, and anything else stored in our Datacenter. We also move backups to the Unitrends Archive unit for offsite storage. The archive unit allows removable drives to be swapped and take[n] off-site for our disaster recovery plan.
  • Works Great with VMware Sever Backups.
  • Test and activate backups in a test VM environment for testing and file recovery.
  • After Purchase product support is great.
  • Appliance updates are easy to perform.
  • Cost of offsite cloud Archive.
  • Clarity on virus and malware file scanning and resolution of backup files.
  • Configuration and Settings compatibility during Appliance Replacement or major software upgrades.
One nice feature is the great alerting capability of the Appliance. Once configured the Appliance will email Job alerts on failures or problems and you get a detailed report each day with details of all scheduled jobs. With the help of support, the Web interface has an option to spin up a backup to a VM for testing purposes. This allow you to see how the backup worked and recover file from a live running machine from your Backup. Database plugins for SQL allow back jobs to be created to backup specific databases not relaying on file-level backups in SQL Servers.

We use Unitrends to backup our Windows environment including SQL server and SharePoint. We have about 8 Windows servers from 2003-2012 that are backed up daily. We also backup an IBM iSeries using Unitrends. All the backups are then replicated to the Unitrends cloud.
  • Easy initial setup of the appliance.
  • It just works. I rarely have to go in and fix it.
  • It was the only appliance we found that did Windows, Linux and iSeries in one appliance.
  • The failure log does not provide any detail. You have to go into the UI to see what happened.
  • The new UI doesn't seem to be as full featured as the old flash based UI.
If you have a mixed environment that includes iSeries, Windows and Linux then Unitrends is great. It currently does not support bare metal Xenserver backups but that is something that is coming in the future.

Our Unitrends appliance has always been my solution for backing up our data and critical machines. The solution has always been reliable and the service provided by the Unitrends support team has always been outstanding.

We were sadly a victim of ransomware some years back. The fact that Unitrends was our choice for a DR appliance was instrumental in the business' ability to to recover and maintain continuity.

I will continue to fight for this solution. Well done to you all.

  • Great Cloud Backup Solution.
  • Sometimes the interface needs to be made simpler to understand.

As the name states, it is our backup and recovery software. We use it to make full backups of VM's in production so that we can do point in time recovery based on our RPO and can pull individual files from that backup should they be needed. This is currently in use in the Greer SC facility. This is a very easy software to use and implement. The support is far and away better than any other I've used in 30 years of IT support. It was only needed a few times but they resolved my issues without delay.
  • Simple installation.
  • Easy to use interface.
  • Great Support.
  • Only one and it is small- the agent updates aren't as seamless as you would expect. Small, but the only improvement I can think of.
Hyper-V, VMware any hypervisior or physical environment this will fit and do well in. They have physical devices that can remove the hypervisor out of and offload the processing capabilities as well as a offsite option. The company is located in SC and the support is very well spoken and capable of communication.

We use Unitrends to back up all of our servers, databases and important desktops critical to our operation. We do a combination of full and differential backups throughout the week, and monthly and annual backups as well to keep our risk low. Restores have been easy when necessary. Unitrends has matured well since I first encountered them 15 years ago.
  • Easy to configure.
  • Support is good to work with.
  • Status reports let me know when things are not going well.
  • Would love to see a report that tells me per night how long each job is taking.
  • Support site should be able to pre-populate the device ID into a list of values.
  • Some intelligence on how we can shrink our backup window with data ever growing.
Having used the competition, I have seen how a lot of other backup solutions work and what their strengths are. Unitrends works well in our current environment with VMware and Netapp. Using the Unitrends OVA appliance coupled with a synology storage for the backups to live on and a replication Unitrends OVA ,and synology appliance in another of our sites allows for an offsite backup. Much better than shipping off tapes to somewhere only to find out the tape was stored incorrectly and can't be used to recover from.

Currently Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is being used to back up our entire organization and copy the backup to the cloud storage. It addresses the problem of making sure we have a disaster recovery plan in place and can provide restores of individual files as needed.
  • It's a stand alone solution that has provided us with DR for 6 years.
  • Support from the company to include monitoring data usage in the cloud.
  • Cost of implementation is very high.
I think it is appropriate in a situation where one person in responsible for managing the backup of an enterprise, which is not the situation I am in.

We use Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery for complete data protection to our organization. We have the Unitrends appliance locally in which we backup to it and the Unitrends cloud. We were using Symantec Backup Exec to tapes and Microsoft Server Backup to locally attached USB drives before acquiring the Unitrends solution.
Having implemented Unitrends in early 2018, we were hit with a Ransomware attack later that year that was so severe, it encrypted all of our server data and even some server system files. If we would of still had the previous methods of backup, they would have been useless. Unitrends literally saved our business from disaster. Without having access to things like customer data, invoices, billing, shipping, inventory, engineering drawings, and much more would have most certainly caused a collapse of our business within days. With Unitrends in place, the ransomware attackers had no visibility or access to where we stored our data. The Unitrends support we received was phenomenal in helping us restore all our servers and data back. So basically, Unitrends backup was one of the best investments we have ever made and as an IT Manager, I sleep so much better.
  • Easy backup setup for complete servers and data.
  • Simple and fast restores.
  • Excellent support by knowledgeable techs.
  • Updates to client software could be easier.
Not sure where it would be less appropriate, but it is great for company-wide systems backup.

We're using Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] to backup our critical business servers. It allows us to maintain security, and recover from possible data loss with virtual machines spun up on premises directly from the backup. We've tested this capability on several occasions, and it is very effective.
  • It recovers to a VM directly from backup
  • It automates the backup process
  • It reports issues and failures very well.
  • There are some problems setting up the Virtual Shadow Services that I'd like to see streamlined.
I'm not as excited about Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] as a backup solution for desktop computers. For servers, it does a great job, but you would need a very high-bandwidth network to manage a large number of desktop computers. The incremental backups cut down on that latency a lot, but I still haven't embraced this technology for all my users.
