My team uses UserTesting for qualitative research both unmoderated and moderated. The tool allows us to gain insights from users quickly and efficiently. It saves time on recruitment and the platform makes it easy to analyze data as it provides transcripts and video clips. We use the tool to gain feedback on our current products as well as new ideas/concept.
  • unmoderated or remote product testing
  • high quality participants that give strong and detailed insights
  • quick insights
  • large and diverse recruitment pool
Cons
  • qualitative research analyzing tools could be better
  • cost is very high
  • easier collaboration with other team member
UserTesting is really great when you want to get insights on a prototype. You can have participants walk through the prototype and conduct speak out loud so you can hear directly from them on what they like, dislike and any sources of confusion. If you want to be able to probe or have a conversation with users you could recruit through UserTesting but it would like be more efficient and cost saying to use Zoom.

We use UserTesting within our UX and CX group on websites and marketing communications. Testing before a site is launched has been key so that we are able to find any roadblocks potential customers may have when using our sites. This gives us the opportunity to make improvements before the larger group has access.
  • Recruitment of general populations for quick testing that meets our criteria.
  • Video recording and ability to make clips to share.
Cons
  • Transcript. Usually pretty good but could be a little more accurate.
Testing websites or demo sites has been easy using UserTesting. Participants are recruited quickly so that tests can take place within the same week. We are able to have UserTesting moderators or do the facilitating ourselves and get great results. We have also shared marketing materials for participants to read over and get feedback that way since it is live and the conversation tools used have been successful.

UserTesting helps us improve the design and function of our web and mobile app experiences. It is also used for concept exploration and validation by our business innovation team. It enables us to quickly and efficiently learn from existing and prospective customers, so that we can better understand their motivations, expectations, and challenges. UserTesting helps our organization overcome internal biases, and discover the unmet needs of our customers.
  • Their massive panel helps us identify the right participants for each study.
  • Their session review tools are both powerful and easy to use.
  • Their customer support is responsive and knowledgeable.
Cons
  • Our needs require individual workspaces for each business line, but I can't share clips between them. If a customer provides insight about another business line or the brand overall, I can't include that clip across workspaces.
  • I'd like to see the product expand into upstream design/research process, such as journey maps or assumptive personas.
UserTesting is an excellent tool for exploring customer sentiment for a variety of business challenges. From needs finding and design validation, to messaging tests and intercept surveys, their platform enables us to quickly and efficiently gauge the impact of our choices. And, most importantly, UserTesting can help save companies from themselves. When we first deployed UserTesting, a very senior executive sent an email regarding the visibility/obviousness of a core app feature. Normally, this would have led to weeks of meetings, emails, and production tests. Instead, a single test produced a chorus of customers stating they had no trouble finding the feature. Fire drill canceled.

Perfect platform to get quick customer feedback!

We use UserTesting mainly to conduct unmoderated usability tests. Since we practice agile, we must frequently launch tests every week or every other week to receive user feedback and gain insights so the design team can work on them. What's good about UserTesting is that it doesn't take long until participants complete the test (unless you are screening for niche users), so you can launch the test, go for a walk, and then come back to analyze the data.
  • Product Manager who follows up on your UserTesting usage and gives advice/support when you need it.
  • UserTesting University is a great platform to learn how to use UT and general information about research.
  • UserTesting can find participants quickly, so you won't need to wait long before you can start the analysis.
Cons
  • Sometimes when you want to go back to the previous page, it feels really slow.
  • (Not sure if it's UserTesting fault) Sometimes, users can't open the URL for some technical reason (It's just a normal www. website).
The unmoderated usability test on UserTesting is perfect. However, the tree test/card sort is not great, as you have two websites for it, and some functionalities are also missing. I also rarely use UserTesting AI quick insights because it's hard to believe these insights when sometimes the transcript is wrong!

Game changing speed to insight. User Testing allows us to quickly have confidence in our designs and quickly pivot if not meeting our users needs. This saves time not only in the UX team but also when it comes to development. User Testing also allows us to have much richer behaviour data to support the why behind out design thinking.
  • Speed to insight
  • Confidence in design
Cons
  • Further integration with other design tools
We use UT in all areas of our design and development process.
