We are primarily using it for our consumer facing digital platforms
  • It's very fast. I'm completing 5-10 interviews within 24 hours or less
  • It's easy to create videos from the interviews to tell a story
  • You can easily test mobile apps and prototypes as well as live sites
Cons
  • We've been on a credits-based contract and will be moving to unlimited testing but can only run 2 tests at a time. Just hope that works well
It's great for quick usability issues where you can easily set up and explain scenarios. It's best for relatively simple interactions. It's less helpful for more complex or multi faceted interactions. Because the core use case is unmoderated testing, if a user gets stuck or doesn't follow directions, you can't help them and sometimes the session is useless. User testing.com will replace the user but you can't get that time back.

We are using UserTesting across multiple teams. It is mainly used by design researchers and designers. We use it to recruit users, handle payment, and get feedback on our products. We also use it to test concepts or have 1:1 interviews with our target users.
  • Quick responses. When we send out a test, we normally get all of our tests back within a day or so (depending on the screener), which is great for quick timelines and feedback.
  • Ease of setting up a test. Putting in your screener questions and setting up your test is user-friendly and very easy to complete. You can also duplicate a test, which has helped us a lot in the past.
  • Customer support. When we have an issue with a test or participant, customer support is always very helpful and quick to respond. They're no-questions-asked when we ask to replace a test for any reason.
Cons
  • We've come across some participants who are there to sneak by screeners and are there to make money. These users aren't our target and it's frustrating to have to replace tests when that happens.
  • As a tech company, we are also looking for niche or technical users. Sometimes they're hard to find and takes a while to recruit. We also sometimes get the same users taking multiple of our tests because there are only so many of certain types of people in the pool.
  • The transcript is hard to go through. We have a lot of abbreviations and technical terms that the transcription doesn't pick up.
UserTesting is great if your user is more of a general type of person. If you're looking for highly technical or specialized job roles, you may not find what you're looking for. Also, you can't vet a user before they take your test so you have to trust in your screener or trust in customer service replacing the test for you.

Using UserTesting's umbrella of products to drive web conversion rates up!

Working in marketing, we use UserTesting to help us surface user pain points and feedback that are then fed back to our optimisation squads. The squads pick out these opportunities for testing and we a/b test hypotheses backed by user research which helps drive conversion rates. We also use UserTesting to conduct user research on prototypes to allow us to get early feedback and for designers to iterate on experiences before they've ever even launched on the website.
  • Multi-method studies
  • Visualising results
  • Centralised repository of research
Cons
  • AI functionality in UserTesting and EnjoyHQ
  • Participant quality in UserTesting
  • Better recruitment numbers for niche profiles
We're currently using the UserTesting and EnjoyHQ platforms and we love the integrations between them. UserTesting allows us to run a plethora of multi-method studies and importantly, QXScore studies which help us internally benchmark our web experiences and track improvements. EnjoyHQ allows us to have a centralised repository of research insights, data analytics findings and experimentation results that keep our findings living and breathing with clear evidence and summaries and allows for stakeholders to self-serve insights which free's up the researchers to run more research.

I'm anticipating the future of AI in UserTesting and EnjoyHQ which currently doesn't exist. I know there are some interesting plans for this and it's something currently lacking in the platforms we use so very exciting stuff. We also have run into recent issues with the recruitment panels either not being able to achieve the numbers we need or having poor quality results.

We've been using UserTesting to close the gaps in our understanding of customer behavior - this has been done through usability tests, card sorting, surveys, preference testing, and gathering insights using some of the UserTesting templates. It's always easy to set up a test, and the participant feedback has been excellent. The ability to summarize with AI and create highlight reels has been helpful in sharing our findings with stakeholders and leadership. This year we are looking to expand the scope of what we use UserTesting for beyond digital products and incorporate user research into more areas of our company, which also allow us to stretch ourselves creatively with how we test. Very exciting stuff and thankful to have a solid foundation with UserTesting's tools.
  • Generates insights based on user feedback
  • Flexible templates
  • Ability to customize audience to zero in on relevant users
Cons
  • Would like to ability to generate keyword clouds
  • Highlight reels are time consuming to create
  • AI summaries don't always pull relevant feedback
UserTesting is well suited for testing ideas and validating designs - through preference testing we've been able to determine which designs meet customer needs and can be put through development, without wasting time and resources on designs that will fail. We've also used UserTesting card sorting feature to help refine hierarchy for new pages, allowing us to see exactly what customers prioritize when making decisions.
