We have a small deployment with a handful of physical hosts and two dozen or so virtual servers. It's been a perfect fit for us to manage all those backups and to restore entire systems from or even pull specific files/folders from a backup as needed if just a few things need changed/rolled back.

Personally, I have had an excellent experience with Veeam Data Platform. Immutable backups are an important feature that we use. The ability to restore an on premises server to the cloud is also a great feature. I had some issues getting email notifications to work, but I was able to figure it out.

Veeam Data Platform is ideal for doing full virtual machine backups from VMWare to an external repository. It also supports cloud backups. I like that it has the ability to easily backup to external hard drives for air-gapped backups. Natively support using Linux for backup proxies and immutable backups. Also can be used for bare metal backups with additional license.

I would recommend Veeam to somebody with a similar environment who needs to take backups of their VMs or even physical servers and be able to restore those directly in the event of a server crash.

Good point:
A good back up software with huge documentation!
Not easy to use the first time without help.
The free community edition, very usefull.

Bad point:
No lifetime licence...
The data limitation when you backup a nas... no comment -_-
No backup up of a wmware workstation player environnement.

Veeam Backup & Replication has been tried & tested in the Education sector & I personally recommend it.
Whilst it's slightly more expensive than some of the other backup competitors, it's not the most expensive & I feel you really do get your moneys worth.
Especially with the flexibility of the various add-ons you can integrate with it as a platform.

Never have had any real issues with Veeam, and for the small issues support has always been amazing and quick. We use a combination of Physical servers and virtualized. veeam works seamlessly with what we have thrown at it. and we regularly backup 50tb of data each week. Our tape infrastructure had no issue being implemented

Veeam is great for proving to auditors that your backup are trust-worthy. When you can start up a virtual server from the backup file running in memory in under 10 minutes, it is pretty darn impressive. We have also used it to take a full take a backup of a production virtual server while it was running in under 5 minutes, so we could restore it (off-network) for testing against production.

I have used some other backup products in the past (like Symantec BackupExec, DELL vRanger, Acronis...) but none of them is as good as veeam is. The guys from Veeam are really doing a great job developing more and more features everytime they release a new major update. So I really like the product and its features (even when its harder to understand as with some other products, because you have way more features here), but I dont like the support. Luckily we have a great IT regional supplier who is helping us everytime we're having issues using Veeam, but every now and then they can't solve issues, so we have to open cases with Veeam. Unfortunately I cant tell one single case which was solved by them... Bottom line: 1. the product is great 2. get a training when starting to use it 3. most important: get a great IT supplier having Veeam experience or even better being a Veeam partner.

We have a fairly simple infrastructure, Veeam Data Platform works very well for our needs. I know there are a lot of higher end, more advanced features that we do not use. I like Veeam Data Platform because while it can do so much, it also works for the smaller, more simple use cases like ours.

I primarily have experience with Veeam Data Platform at a medium scale, so midsize businesses and MSPs. I feel like Veeam Data Platform is extremely well-suited for creating a local backup or DR system for a smaller business that can't necessarily afford to host everything in the cloud, but can also potentially support onsite storage with a cloud repository to better make things immutable and resilient.

  • Veeam Data Platform works great for recovering full VMs within minutes. If it was a little faster, it could replace VM snapshots entirely. It is very easy to add/remove VMs to and from backups.
  • We use vmware tags that are assigned to a Veeam Data Platform job. Each schedule, Veeam Data Platform checks these tags and add/removes them from the job. VeeamONE has reports that have changes made in case a tag is accidently ran, as well as the job throwing a warning if a VM was backed up and is no longer backed up.
  • Veeam Data Platform was our best option for backing up to custom storage. We demoed many products, and we ranged from no support at all to they couldn't dedupe unless we used their storage appliance.
  • Using a Backup Copy job has been very useful for us. We run a Backup Copy job to copy our current backup changes to our DR site after each job is complete.
  • If you have a complicate High Availability and/or DR setup, managing the Veeam Backup and Replication server, along with VeeamONE and the Veeam Enterprise Manager server can be less than ideal in my opinion. I would prefer a more Active/Active or even Active/Passive approach that keep in sync with each other vs having to manually recreate the server in a

a scenario where Veeam Data Platform is well suited for is in case of ramsomware because of the trusted immutability, you can recover exactly the stuff that you need anywhere safely, backups are unable to changed or delete, its integrity stays intact. Nowadays is critical having an immutable solution for the backups because ransomware attacks are rising.

My experience with Veeam has been in a more traditional role where we back up our virtualized infrastructure and select physical servers and store them in central repositories. This is Veeam's bread and butter in my opinion and I haven't found a better product to do this role. I recommend Veeam for anyone who need to traditionally backup their servers and data and store it offsite or at another datacenter. Their options around immutable backups and replication to other datacenters have been solid value adds over the years.

In our environment Veeam has been really well suited for us. It integrates well with our VMware environment and allowing us to do storage snapshots on our Dell enterprise SAN's. It also allow for tape backup. We have compliance requirements that still need us to use tape backup and Veeam was one of the few venders that still offered that.

Veeam Backup and Recovery is well suited for backing up any virtualized infrastructure, be it VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, etc. The product does great at offering many different backup options. With its hardened linux repositories, you can be confident your backups are safe and secure locally, but you can still do those ever-important offsite backups/replications through Veeam Cloud Connect as well. Veeam is very versatile.

VMWARE backup infrastructure and cloud connect. I would not really recommend veeam for SaaS platform providers and in cases where a wide range of NAS' must be made available as a destination, it falls short by not supporting netgear's products or QNAP alongside several other popular vendors. Physical backups are also pretty consistently reliable.

Being one of the leaders in back up and disaster recovery, it's no surprise that Veeam excels in its field. In a traditional on-premise environment, its capability is second to none for backup, site failover, file and folder recovery, and restoration abilities. The specific version of veeam we use is however less suited for SaaS like 365.

It is well suited as a server backup. We have used it for both physical servers as well as virtual servers. It saved us a ton of money over VSAN in our new environment. My only concern is that the Backup solutions like Synology will hurt Veeam as they are more of a one time cost for the life of the device.
