Providing backups of our user shared data space that is utilized for file collaborations and access. In that environment, there exists the possibility for accidental or deliberate removal or alteration of files in a manner detrimental to our buisness. Veeam provides us with a fall-back for those files now that they are in 365, similar to to the fall-back we had when the files were on a local file server in the past.
  • Provides an easy to manage backup solution
  • Provides good, helpful, and responsive support
  • Integration into the larger Veeam sphere
  • Clarity over Sharepoint versus Onedrive backups
  • License model improvements specifically for shared resources
If you are already a Veeam customer, and have 365 data you want to back up, this works great. If you're not using 365, this probably isn't for you and I'm not sure why you're looking here. If you're not already a Veeam customer... maybe it's worth the integration time, maybe there's a better solution for you?

We use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to protect our entire organization. We need an extra copy of all data in an immutable storage container. While the product can not backup directly to immutable storage, it can backup to regular blob storage and make an immutable copy in another bucket. This provides coverage in the event of accidental deletion and or need of data recovery.
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 provides a single pane for access with easy use and mangement
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 offers the additional piece of mind knowing that all of the organizational data is backed up and protected.
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 allows backups to be copied to imutable blob storage with backup encryption.
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 can not backup directly to immutable storage
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 requires a license for each user rather than an ong set price.
  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is still being refined and has some missing features and some improvements to be made
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is great for email and onedrive/sharepoint data. If your teams, mailboxes, or sites do not have owners this will have to be addressed before using the product. It however is not a valid product as of today to backup directly to immutable storage. Backups must first be taken, then copied to immutable storage which increases storage footprint and raises the overall cost of the product solution.

We use Veeam Backup for O365 to accomplish compliancy with our cyber risk insurance and to protect the integrity of our data. Before, we had no way of recovering emails or sharepoint data outside of the default retention and recovery methods that were provided by Microsoft. We also cannot satisfy the needs to allow for recover in case of a ransomware attack against our exchange environment, rare but possible.
  • Ease of search
  • Recovery speed
  • Ease of maintaining behind the scene
  • Ease to add new jobs/repository
  • Extensive audit log for compliancy
  • Needs an easy way to remove license usage
  • Needs an easy way to remove a mailbox from the repository to free up space
  • Auto updates
We have had employees who were terminated delete large amount of emails and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 helped us recover.

  • Microsoft changes how it names their products, often Veeam directions do not match Microsoft names
It is suited if moving from on premises to the cloud and you need to backup your data.

We needed a solution to provide versioning backups for our email, sharepoint, teams, and onedrive. Veeam had been a great solution for our on-prem resources, so we looked to it.
  • Backing up documents, emails, and chats.
  • Provides an easy to use backup explorer.
  • Integrates with Azure blob storage
  • Would be nice to have this as a module in existing veeam environment.
  • Ability to backup azure policies
  • Ability to backup azure vms
If you already use Veeam for on-prem resources, this is a great solution for your teams, email, and sharepoint data

We use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to backup all of our mailboxes which allows us to quickly recover mass deleted emails or folders. It also prevents issues with users who still have access to their accounts after being terminated. We also backup important Sharepoint and OneDrive folders which gives us get disaster recovery!
  • Quick Restores
  • Quick File Browsing
  • The setup can be somewhat confusing
  • Easier way to clean up old data and free up licenses
Great for keeping a secondary backup for emergencies or even just user errors.

We use it to backup email, sharepoint and onedrive to Azure Blob. We back up all our users' resources in Australia, Asia and Europe. This allows us to restore any of the above resources in case of data loss in Microsoft 365. Great software. I really recommend it, really really really really really recommend it.
  • Backups of emails
  • Backups of Onedrive
  • Backups of Sharepoint
  • I'd like to see it integrated into Veeam backup and replication
It is well suited for restorations back into Microsoft 365, but also to Azure native or Azure VMware Solution

We are currently using Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to backup our whole M365 environment. Currently the only business need this addresses is a "feel good" blanket for leadership. In the event we have to perform an actual restore of our libraries, sites, etc. we are going to be in trouble as we heavily rely on tagging and this solution doesn't seem to restore these when completing a restore. Re-adding these tags will be tedious at best even when scripting it.
  • backups are great, almost set it and forget it.
  • the flexibility is also great.
  • restore speed is wonderful, not perfect, but really fast and efficient.
  • We really need tagging functionality for this to be our go to product
After all the interaction I have had with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, I would say it is a robust product and platform, with the exception of tagging. If there was a way to include this in the restores, this would be a rock solid solution.

We have a mixture of on-premise servers, Azure, and O365 so we needed a solution that would backup all of those environments. It also needed the ability to offload the backups to removable media for off-site storage.
  • Easily select items to be included in the backup.
  • Notifications of job status.
  • Separate backups for Sharepoint and Exchange.
  • Have the ability to offload backups to removable media instead of using the main VBR.
For us, it is helpful as we do not have an online solution to back up O365.

We need to backup our Office 365 environment for a longer retention period than what Microsoft offers so we use Veeam Backup for office 365 every day to backup our environment. We also use it to backup our subsidiaries environments also every night. It is easy to use and a life saver.
  • Backup Microsoft Onedrive for long retentions.
  • Backup Sharepoint sites and Teams sites.
  • Very easy to restore files when they get deleted.
  • I would love to see more reports from Veeam for Office 365.
  • Maybe with Veeam ONE.
Users who accidentally deleted databases stored in their OneDrive were not able to recover them via Microsoft backup, so I used Veeam backup for Office 365 to recover the files needed for an important project. Veeam for Office 365 is great, and it is easy to recover lost Microsoft Teams files in a meeting.

Our business needed granular restore functionality of our Microsoft 365 products. In particular, we have hosted mailboxes with Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams data. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 handles all of these extremely effectively.

It is a standalone product unrelated to Veeam Backup and Recovery, so you don't need to have any investment in the Veeam product line to take advantage of it. Both local and object storage-based backup repositories are supported. Once your initial backup is completed, all future backups are done incrementally in a very fast and efficient manner. Due to the efficient storage of backup data, I have point in time backups going back several years since we started using the product with surprisingly little storage used. We can granularly restore individual items using the explorers for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. The restoration options are very flexible, for instance we can restore one or more messages from an Exchange mailbox to the original mailbox, PST file, individual msg file, or email it to someone.

The only difficulty someone may have in setting it up is the object storage, but there is excellent documentation to walk you through it.

We're very happy with it.
  • Fast Incremental Backups
  • Granular Restores
  • Efficient Storage
  • Variety of object storage support
  • Integration with Backup and Recovery Repositories
  • Ability to backup Teams chats outside of channels (currently Microsoft API limitation as I understand it)
If you have any important data on Microsoft 365 and need reliable consistent backups either on or off-premise, I'd recommend Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. Remember that Microsoft is not responsible for backing up your data. That's on you, and this is a great way to do it.

I can't see many scenarios where you wouldn't want to use this. Maybe if you have no budget, although the pricing is pretty good, but subscription based so you do have to keep it licensed every year to continue using it.

We recently moved our Mails from a local Mailserver to Microsoft 365. Since then we use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to Backup our Mailboxes, OneDrive and Teams Infrastructure.

We use Veeam to backup a variety of dedicated servers and virtual machines. We originally started using Veeam to replace an on premise backup solution that wasn't providing us with the features we needed. Veeam ended up being the best solution for our company. Right now we use Veeam to backup roughly 90% of our resources.
  • Scheduling Backup Jobs is Easy and Fast
  • Restoring from Backups is simple and reliable.
  • Veeam support is top notch, I usually get an agent assigned and my issue resolved in less than a day.
  • Price is a little high, but worth the cost.
  • Issues with some vmware hosts not being able to be backed up due to vmware licensing. No issues with HyperV though!
Veeam is well suited for work environments using 365 or Active Directory. Veeam as a solution is dependable for small and medium size companies. Simple to setup and reliable.

We exclusively use Microsoft 365 products for email, unified communications, and cloud storage solutions. These are the most critical systems for our business and we cannot afford to lose the data they contain. While Microsoft offers some degree of backup within Microsoft 365, it is lacking for our business needs. We need a more robust solution that is separate from Microsoft. If an issue arises with one of their services, we need to have a completely independent backup copy of all that data.
  • Licensing is very easy to manage; Microsoft licensing is notoriously complex
  • The management interface is intuitive and easy to navigate
  • We already use Veeam Backup and Replication for our virtual environment; it makes sense to extend that to our cloud services
  • Account, licensing, and technical support are generally responsive
  • I have had some minor issues with their flagship product, but not with this one; nothing to report here
We are a small to medium sized business, so we don't have a huge team of IT staff to manage our infrastructure. That means we need solutions that are easy to implement, manage, and use as needed. Veeam is very good at this. It does not matter if you are backing up a small amount of data or a lot. It functions exactly the same way regardless. No need to worry about scaling the solution as your business grows over time.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is used in our environment to back up SharePoint and OneDrive. We made the decision not to back up Microsoft Teams. This grants us the ability to restore user files and sites.
  • File Structure: Veeam makes it easy to find files for restore
  • Ease of use: Does not take long to get familiar
  • Alerting: Veeam does a good job of alerting when jobs fail or succeed.
  • Restoration: Veeam Backup for 365 can be a pain when restoring. It may take a while to open folders or files.
  • Explorer: Veeam Explorer has been very slow to run when searching for specific files.
  • Support: Support with Veeam could be better.
Veeam for 365 is well suited in an environment with lots of resources, especially for organizations utilizing a diverse stack of 365 products. It has the ability to back up almost any 365 app. It is less suited for small organizations, Veeam 365 could be replaced by something less robust.

My main pitfall is the restore process. When it works correctly it is perfect, but that does not happen often. It gets hung or stuck often and takes a very long time to even open explorer sometimes as well as restore.

We use it to backup critical business data that resides in M365, mostly specific sites and document libraries in SharePoint Online, but also all of our Exchange Online mailbox data - it's 'our' responsibility to backup our data as explained in the M365 services agreement. We have in fact had to rely on it at least once as M365 actually lost some of our data during a 'routine data migration'...
  • Simplicity of setup
  • Instant recovery
  • Set it and forget it-like usage
  • I'd love to see Dataverse backup capabilities added
It's very well suited to anyone who hosts their business in M365 - you can opt to store the backup data in Azure or you could really double down and store it on-prem or with another cloud service provider entirely, such as Amazon Web Services. It can backup and restore SharePoint, Teams and Exchange data very easily. It's of no use at all currently for data residing in Dataverse storage unfortunately...

We haven't had a good product beyond Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 that would cover our M365 needs with restores and backups. This covers that perfectly. Easy to implement and use for our engineers
  • Exchange accounts backups
  • Exchange/Outlook email restores
  • OneDrive restores
  • It is a little related but we have been approached by providers like Quest that provide some of the same tools, but with our Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 running already with Veeam we went with them.
  • Maybe not the same wheelhouse but we did want to back up CAPs also, but the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 solution could not do that.

However, we found an alternative service that better met our needs.

In my opinion, it's just difficult to navigate the interface. It's clunky interface, and takes awhile to load the data when you need to investigate or perform a restore. In my experience, even with the server bulked up with all the resources, it's still slow and inefficient. We went with an alternative cloud provider that addressed these issues and we're much happier.

We are a HIPAA-compliant healthcare facility. Unfortunately, due to the competitive nature of the healthcare industry, we have a high turnover rate with employees moving to competitors. This creates a unique requirement that we keep meticulous records of certain positions. With the shared responsibility model of backups with Microsoft 365, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 plugs the holes in the limited backup options directly from Microsoft. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 simplifies the process of backing up Microsoft 365 data while offering a more comprehensive solution. As we migrate more of our data from on-prem file servers to Sharepoint Online, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 will allow us to make the migration while maintaining our HIPAA compliance.
  • Scheduling backups
  • Retrieval of information
  • Low overhead of resources
  • Email notifications for administrators
  • Standalone feature for backing up SharePoint repositories
Competitive industries with high employee turnaround. Moving licenses between incoming and outgoing employees is fairly simple, which is helpful where some employees are with us for a short amount of time (6 months), but backup is necessary.
