We back up all of our Windows and Linux servers with Veeam.<br>
  • Full system disk backup
  • Virtual host backup
  • Price point is good
  • Restores of backups have been very clunky and diffcult to do successfully
  • GUI interface is not very intuitive
  • Had issues with Linux disk encryption
It's price point makes it attractive, especially for organizations with only a handful of servers that can use the community edition.

Using Veeam backup and replication addresses the lack of company wide backups including the backing up of important information such as servers that hosts sql databases and the company ERP systems. Veeam is also used at multiple locations and allows me to provide effortless backups to various desktops as well
  • Provides backups of physical servers
  • Provides protection of ransomware
  • Ease of use
  • Integrated online backup storage
When i first started my position with my current employer and was looking over protocols and procedures. I realized that nobody previously had considered any type of backup for any of the devices or servers i found Veeam to provide much needed backups for physical servers that the company needed

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to backup 15 vitual machines and to then copy those backups to an offsite SAN. These backups are shceduled daily. THe off-site backup runs nightly. This software ensures we aren;t left without options in the event of a Virtual machine failure. It's worked very well for our organization.
  • Backup virtual machines
  • Remote copies for VM backups
  • Licensing is a bit confusing
Veeam Backup & Replication is well suited for backing up virtual machines and copying them to an off site storage. We have not run into any scenario where Veeam Backup & Replication is not appropriate. It fully suits our needs. In our environment, I cannot think of scenarios where it is less appropriate.

We're a law practice with ever-expanding data sets to protect. Veeam Backup & Replication allows us to protect that data at a reasonable cost and complexity. It allows us to meet our RTO and RPO objectives and helps everyone sleep easier at night.
  • Protects our data with nightly incremental backups
  • Allows for quick restoral of data if needed
  • Can create new 'full backups' from data sets without having to perform a full backup
  • The interface is a bit clunky...I preferred it before they 'fisher priced' the interface
  • Support can be problematic, as it takes a while to get someone to respond to a ticket; that MAY be related to Covid
  • The cost has gone up considerably in recent years.
We're currently using it with physical servers, which doesn't seem to be the expected situation. It works, but all the documentation and the support people expect you to be running in a VM environment. We will be switching to VMWare shortly, but it's a bit annoying to have to keep correcting people and translating for our actual situation.

I've used other products that are better at protecting the data (faster backups, more recovery points), like the Datto Siris, but they're much more expensive. To protect the same size data set with Datto would require about $50,000 purchase and $5,000 monthly expenses.

We use Veeam Backup & Replication to keep our company protected from data loss at all levels. Aside from just backing up and versioning, it's great for VM management tasks as well, i.e migrations and upgrades. The licenses for hypervisors to do live migration are very expensive. We use Veeam Backup & Replication in place of these licenses and it does a great job for us. So the savings alone on this aspect of our deployment makes the product a no-cost solution. The licensing for Veeam Backup & Replication is excellent and priced better than the competition in our experience. The universal license model is fair and priced well. I've used several disaster recovery products in the past and Veeam Backup & Replication is by far my favorite one. Veeam Backup & Replication is a little more in-depth to deploy than some other solutions, but the tradeoff is that it is extremely capable, flexible, and configurable for almost any scenario.
  • Backup schedules are powerful and very tunable.
  • Instant recovery of single files is awesome.
  • Licensing model is set it and forget it.
  • It should be easier to implement copying the entire backup repo to external storage on a schedule. This should include cloud services.
Any small, medium or large company that does not want to lose data should consider Veeam Backup & Replication. It works very well with VMware vSphere but is also good with standard client-side PCs.

I use Veeam Backup and Replication to ensure that there is at all times a secure back up of data within the company. I currently use the Veeam software on multiple servers, and although I have not had to use it yet, I feel I would have no issues restoring the data in a timely manner.
  • Excellent customer support.
  • Easy to navigate software.
  • numerous backup options.
  • I would like to see Veeam have its own online backup repository instead of relying on a 3rd party.
I feel that Veeam is best used for companies that are in need of reliable and safe backup software. Veeam would be great for any type of system failure, along with any type of malicious ransomware. Veeam is able to be used on multi-platforms along with using any additional licensing on PCs.

Veeam has proven to be a fairly intuitive backup software that is much easier to use than some competing products. The software is user-friendly and is incredibly helpful in file recovery situations that require fast resolution. Our company replaced an outdated software with Veeam and are pleased with the results that we have seen even in just a few months we have been using their service.
  • User-friendly.
  • Fast file backup recovery.
  • Dedicated support team.
  • Faster support resolutions.
Veeam backup is well suited for small to mid-sized companies like the one I am a part of. The price point and the functionality of the software make the program well worth the investment and provide peace of mind when it comes to securing company data. Veeam could be an invaluable resource for securing data from ransomware attacks.

Backups are a necessary evil and for SMEs are often overlooked. A decent strategy and the necessary infrastructure are easy to overlook when there are more pressing concerns and are often only missed when it's too late. I've used a variety of backup applications over the years and they've generally been poor experiences causing headaches and frustration. Veeam is the first I've come across that is flexible, powerful, and - dare I say it - a pleasure to use. I use Veeam for a variety of types of backup (VMs, Office 365) on a variety of media (cloud, online, and tape) and even replication and It Just Works. Support, when I've needed it, has been quick, friendly, and efficient with the sense that the team loves their product as much as I do. There, I said it; I love a backup product! A first for me, and it may be for you too - why not try it? It's free - in perpetuity - for the limited use so you've really nothing to lose.
  • Day to day backup with no hassle
  • Copying online backups to tape
  • Replication
  • Support
  • Copying backup to tape for archive
  • Genuinely happy with what I've got!
For day-to-day backup (of VMs, datastores, etc.), it's easily the best I've seen just getting the job done. Replication is a nice "extra" that is way more feature-rich than (for example) Microsoft's native Hyper-V offering. As well as storing data live on our SAN, I copy it to tape for air-gapped, off-site storage - Veeam makes this a very easy process with excellent administration of new and existing backups.

I can't think of any major issues - my first experience of Veam was at a job where it was already in place. When I left there for a new job I quickly replaced the existing system with Veeam - you can't get a better recommendation!

Veeam is the software responsible for our ease of mind, we use it on all our sites for some years now and it is so solid and efficient that is the only infrastructure element that we do not lay a finger on, apart from updates, which we also blindly do due to the fact no issues were presented whatsoever, ever. We use it to backup all our infrastructure both locally and on remote site NASes daily, and in some cases for mission-critical services even every 10 minutes without even a glitch. Restores are a breeze and never had integrity issues. We use file level restore very often in both windows and Linux systems as well as email (exchange) and database level( not very often) The systems were tested in disaster recovery situations in order to restore servers in new hardware and hypervisor without any issues whatsoever. Even the community edition has no features cut (at least for our needs) except the VM number it can process. Overall great software and great support! Thank you VEEAM!
  • Reliable and fast backup
  • Portability and flexibility or restore options
  • Great scalability
  • Excelent stability
  • Ability to run on the Linux platform
The best way to use VEEAM is to have it handle your VM backups automatically. You only need to specify well what aspects of each workload you need to focus on (file level, application objects backup) and a good retention policy and you forget to review it again. It is also very efficient and fast when working with remote backups, its deduplication capabilities amazed me!

We run a couple of Hyper-V machines and use VEEAM Backup & Replication Enterprise to do the Backups to disc and then to tape. We had s lot of machines with different desires, and we wanted a solution, that can handle them all at once. Now we moved some machines into the cloud and Veeam can also help here.
  • Backup of Hyper-V machines
  • Restore of single files from a VM
  • Restore of a whole VM
  • Not at the moment
I can only tell what I experienced and I definitely like the single file restore option. You just browse the backup file from a specific day and select the file. Then you can restore it and everyone is happy. I don't have any idea what and where it is nor appropriate, but there might be some cases.

We are backing up two VMware clusters (Linux and Windows) as well as a handful of standalone servers (Windows). We plan to add some important workstations with the remaining licenses, but that was not what prompted the purchase. The Veeam backups protect our servers and data with custom retention periods, backup jobs writing to multiple locations, and encryption protection.
  • Easy to configure
  • Good compression and use of storage space
  • Strong support and documentation
  • Reliable backups
  • Licensing has changed to a subscription model instead of a purchase model
  • Expensive
  • Large downloads for updates
Anyone who has a server or data they want to backup should consider Veeam. I would recommend it particularly for organizations that utilize virtualized environments. The replication features are amazing and can have a server up and running in minutes. This feature works particularly well, and it can revert back to a production environment after you take care of whatever issues caused the failure.

This product solved a backup reliability issue for our company. The previous product was decent but prone to backups that would have "issues" and failures fairly often. This was increasingly frustrating and led to our shopping for something new. As we already use Veeam for backing up Microsoft 365, it made sense to evaluate and ultimately purchase the product.
  • Reliable backups and restores
  • Very fast speed
  • File server backups don't replicate to the cloud without workarounds
This software is fantastic, especially in a VM environment. We are a Hyper-V shop, but I am told that this works very well with VMware too. We have quite a few VMs and growing, and adding additional servers is seamless. When I have needed restores, the process has been fast and error free.

Our primary vSphere/ESXi VM backup solution. Used to take daily snapshots of on-premises virtual machines via a dedicated server offsite. Backups are then copied to a service provider in another city. It covers our daily core system backup requirements and is configured in such a way that it can meet requirements for physical separation of the primary production infrastructure to the main backup repository, while still being performant. It's integration with 3rd parties via Cloud Connect also meets requirements for an additional tier of backups that is geographically separated from our home area. A new upcoming requirement is to cover virtual machines hosted in the Nutanix AHV hypervisor, which Veeam also supports.
  • Virtual machine backup
  • Application-specific item recovery
  • Integration with MSPs
  • Broad support for different backup targets
  • AHV backup functionality is not equivalent to ESXi. It uses a different distinct console and is not compatible with some advanced features such as SureBackup.
  • License renewal experience in the conversion between the legacy model and the new universal license has been very poor. We were forced to pay a significant fee to allow backups of AHV targets, but other than the change in hypervisor there was no improvement in functionality. In fact we have less since SureBackup is not supported with AHV workloads.
  • Added tools to assist in hardening the server and isolating it from inside threats would be nice to have. Most of this needs to be manually worked through to ensure an internal compromise does not also impact your backups.
Veeam Backup & Replication is still best of breed when it comes to on-premises VMWare workloads. Particularly when tied into VeeamOne reporting and with integration to 3rd parties, it can provide a full scope backup solution. The endpoint solution is also quite capable and integrates with the main console, however the licensing costs are too high for most of our use cases. The AHV solution still feels tacked on, and it's difficult to stomach the license change to accommodate it when you actually receive less functionality. Support is generally good, though there's been subpar experiences in the past (not uncommon with most vendors these days). There's also an abundance of support material out there.

Veeam Backup & Replication is versatile, reliable, and robust. I wanted something that even the least experienced technician in our department could maintain and use if necessary, especially during the age of COVID-19, and Veeam fit the bill. • Ease of Use

  • Better onboarding for new users
Veeam Backup & Replication is well suited for virtualized, physical, and mixed environments. It fits in well with the relatively new kid on the block of cloud IaaS. Veeam is used to back up my virtual machines running under VMware. I back up my entire enterprise with it and use it for backup and as a simple DR solution. I maintain local backups and offload them to Microsoft Azure as a cloud storage platform for the backups. I honestly do not face any challenges with the product, and it fully meets my needs and expectations.
  • Backs up VM's quickly and efficiently.
  • Excellent deduplication to reduce storage needs.
  • Ability to automatically have local backups upload to the cloud automatically.
  • Veeam really needs a single console/dashboard for Backup & Replication & M365 backup products.
  • Better notification of updates/patches for Backup & replication.
With Microsoft Exchange, the ability to restore/recover a single mail item within a user's mailbox and full server restores are excellent Instant recovery is an excellent tool as it allows you to run a server from a backup in real-time as it restores the backup. Upon completion of the restore, it checks for any changes that took place during the restore and incorporate them into the restored server, so there is no data loss.

Daily & Weekly VM backup to local and also replication to our DR site. We are also using Veeam to backup to tape certain jobs. The flexibility of Veeam to accomplish all of these tasks makes it a great product for us. We have appreciated being able to use one product for so many different functions. We've recently added server configs to a physical box, then Veeam backs those up to tape.
  • Fast & easy recovery of files from local backups.
  • Solid performance for local & replication to DR site.
  • Great support from Veeam tech support.
  • Calculating digest process is very time consuming on VM changes.
  • Sometimes struggles with very large VM's.
  • Cleanup of deleted VM's requires a few extra steps.
Veeam has been a great solution for us for 10+ years. They do a great job of keeping versions up to date as VMWare releases new versions. The software is easy to install, easy to manage/maintain, and works solid. We piggyback jobs evenings & weekends, and most issues are not Veeam-related. Great product that we use in so many different ways & components.

In our company, we use the Veeam Backup & Replication solution to backup all our production VMs. The Veeam Backup & Replication solution came to meet an open gap in terms of backup, which the company was outdated and with backups in an unsafe way, and it works. With Veeam Backup & Replication, we can backup VMs extremely quickly, with a centralized management console where we can quickly restore specific files, entire VMs, just volumes, etc., with robust control of stored backup versions.
  • Incremental backup of Hyper-V VM's
  • Restoring individual files from any existing restore point
  • Replication of Hyper-V VMs between servers
  • Possibility to replicate jobs and restore points to another Veeam console
  • Possibility to add google drive as external repository
The Veeam Backup & Replication solution is ideal for backups of virtualized environments. It provides agility for the backup of VMs, all in a centralized console for monitoring, making it possible to retain several restore points and restore files in a granular way without the need for backup of folders isolated, which makes management difficult. However, the Veeam Backup & Replication solution fits better in medium-large enterprise environments, as it needs a dedicated and robust datastore. The cost of its license to allow the backup of several VMs is not very affordable. For small companies, it is possible to use the free version with limitations, but it also works excellently if the environment has a simple infrastructure.

We have an infrastructure that is mostly virtualized on-premise with some AWS and Azure cloud with onsite and offsite backups including a mix of various Windows OS as well as Linux. We backup offsite to AWS and Backblaze and have to Azure as well in the past with great success.
  • Ability to restore file level easily and quickly
  • Vast knowledgebase to help with common errors or situations
  • Very reliable backup solution
  • Great support options
  • Ability to call into support from all support tiers
  • Scale computing support
  • Cost is high
  • Provide training videos to learn the product better
Veeam Backup is appropriate for almost any enterprise environment as a backup solution. The product takes time to learn and understand though. We use Veeam Backup & Replication to ensure our virtualized systems are backed up properly. In addition, we also provide 30-60 days of recovery storage in the event of loss, data theft, or the inevitable threat of actor apprehension of data or systems. Every business must decide what is most important when it comes to data, and ensure solutions are able to resolve any issues which could arise. Our specific use case involves multi-layer protection against threat actors, and Veeam Backup & Replication ensures we are able to recover in the event of ransomware or any other data loss within a 24-hour period of time.
  • Process flow for backup or recovery of jobs
  • Capability to easily configure history and retention models
  • Security of backups using encryption, and data protection made easy
  • Replication between datacenters using the same IP topology
  • all in one licensing for backup & recovery, Office 365 and replication strategies
Almost any virtualized or physical environment using Microsoft, Linux, Unix, VMware, and others would be well suited to use Veeam for peace of mind in data or system recovery. The only time Veeam would not be well suited is when storage is limited or minimal for backup storage.

We utilize Veeam Backup & Replication at our data center to take nightly backups of our servers without significant impact on the performance of the environment. We are able to take backups at our primary data center. We also securely send a copy to our DR site should we need to spin that up. All of this while being able to encrypt the backups. I also use the Veeam community edition to backup my personal devices with the same confidence and similar interface I am used to in our enterprise. Veeam Backup & Replication allows us to easily back up multiple TBs of data in less than our allowable window. With the built-in snapshotting feature, we don't have to be concerned with referencial integrity.

Virtualized private cloud deployment. Where uptime and speed are critical to applications' success. Work from home laptop and desktops. We are able to achieve our RPO of 24hrs max and RTO of 8 hrs to a secondary site. We are adding another solution for real-time replication of our data to a tertiary site. We presently use Veeam Backup and Replication as our core backup solution for all servers including our Hyper-V environments. Previously the backup solutions in place were either poor or unreliable. Veeam Backup and Replication has easily filled this gap with an easy to implement and use system that is very reliable - not only for small restorations, but through to complete virtual environment restorations.
  • Restorations are extremely easy and work first go.
  • Adding in additional systems for backup with extremely easy.
  • Implementation is a piece of cake!
  • It is somewhat resource hungry so requires more hardware to get up and running.
  • It is a bit clunky on slower systems - in that some windows appear slowly, etc.
  • Further explanation of things within the software would be beneficial.
It filled our backup requirements easily. Implementation into the physical and virtual environments was simple and straightforward, with backups working very quickly. Further to this, the various restoration features worked effortlessly and allowed for the business to continue easily - even while waiting for full restorations to complete in the background.

We use Veeam Backup & Replication as our main backup solution for the virtualization environment. Even though the community edition comes with only 10 free licenses, we "extend" it using the VeemZip technology combined with PowerShell to support 16 VM or more.
  • Easy configuration and maintenance
  • Combine VeeamZip with Powershell to extend funcionality
  • Easy integration with backup repositories
  • Encryption of backup
  • Possibility to send backup to secondary backup repository
  • Possibility to install on open source OS, ie. Linux.
  • Maintenance through web interface.
I think Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition is well suited to virtual environments where some VM is not that big, so you can use PowerShell script which runs Veeam Backup of smaller VM, and then u can create a schedule in task scheduler so it runs automatically. Keep in mind that VeemZip always makes a full backup copy, so a bigger VM will take a longer time to create a backup.

Our business had a horrible backup solution in place. As we are a multinational company and many resources are located at the main office, the storage and network could not experience considerable slowdowns during large backups. Due to this, we were forced to choose a smaller subset of data to back up. With VEEAM, incremental takes minutes and the full backups do not even get noticed. The recovery options, retention options, Scale-Out options to automatically upload to offsite sources ... everything is top-notch.
  • Non intrusive backups.
  • Great retention/scale-out options.
  • Simple and fast recovery, from full VM to single files.
  • More details and direction in any error messages.
  • A more stern warning when shutting down that a backup is in progress.
Veeam is incredible at handling full backups without impacting my network. Large full backups can be done using synthetic backups from incremental. We are a small to midsize company and cost is always a factor. The product is reasonably priced, but I need to make decisions regarding some less critical machines to not back them up to keep the license count lower. If there was a limited license option that could be scheduled out for a once-a-month style limited backup, that would be ideal. It is a very minor complaint though, as the licenses aren't really that expensive.

Veeam Backup & Replication is being used to backup all the virtual servers in the organization. It allows us to get a full image of the server, meaning we can restore the entire server in a few hours if needed.
  • Image Backups. Veeam is more reliable than all our previous vendors that supported image backups.
  • Copy to Cloud. Veeam has a built-in ability to copy backups to the cloud and it works really well.
  • Restoring files. Restoring files is really easy, and it also has the ability to automatically spin up VMs from their backups and test to make sure they boot successfully.
  • Copy to USB/Offsite. It works differently than all other programs in that it keeps a specific number of restore points instead of just copying the current backup files and is basically a new chain of backup files.
  • SQL Authentication. It works well, but only allows specifying 1 account for authentication even though SQL servers may have multiple databases each with separate authentication.
Veeam Backup & Replication is perfect for backing up virtual servers, copying the backups to offsite locations, and restoring files. Veeam works really well for backing up physical servers, although the process isn't quite as smooth as when backing up virtual servers. It can also backup file shares such as on a NAS device, but that functionality is fairly new and doesn't work quite as seamlessly compared to setting up a robocopy script.

The business unable to afford long downtime when there an outage happens to the server. To have offsite vm replica with multiple copies. In order to have server up and running in a very short period, we implement Veaam Backup & Replication to ensure the vm can be powered on in less time when the issue occurs on the original vm.
  • Replicate vm to offsite
  • Keep vm with retention period of each vm snapshot
  • Send alert for success and fail replicate job
  • The use of proxy seems not smart enough
  • Vm restore can be more intuitive
  • Vm replicate fail if no repository
Setup and configuration was very easy. Just basic IT knowledge is sufficient to setup Veeam. Once setup, daily vm replicate was very easy to manage. You will get an email alert once replicate job successfully or fail. Backup configuration also optionally happens daily. You will not lose anything if follow the correct steps.
